He was born June 9, 1911, in Whitney, Idaho to Abraham and Cecilia Marie Hansen Winward. He married Maurine Yarbrough on June 22, 1937 in the Logan L. D.S. Temple. They enjoyed 65 years together. Morris graduated from Preston High School attended B.Y.U. and received his B.A. Degree. He received his Masters and Doctor of Education from the University of Southern California. He worked as Assistant Superintendent of several large school districts, the last one being San Mateo Union High School District in California. He was president of the Rotary Club in San Mateo, and Trustee of the C.A. Buck Foundation, a scholarship organization. Morris loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. He was an avid golfer, playing regularly, until his stroke two years ago. He loved gardening, cultivating orchids, roses, camelias and fruit and vegetables of all varieties. He cherished the time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to the Netherlands, held numerous executive positions in Priesthood Quorums, Sunday School, MIA, and High Councils. He also served as Bishop in San Mateo, California, Branch President in Alta, California, and Sunday School Teacher and Home Teacher. Morris is survived by his wife, Maurine, one son and two daughters; Carol (Phil) Dorr, Orem, Utah; Lawrence (Evelyn) Winward, Mesa, Arizona; Nancy (Jon) Young, Gillette, Wyoming; 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters; Grace Anderson, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Ida Roberts, Nampa, Idaho; Cecilia Marie Jenson, Reno, Nevada and Leon H. Winward, Billings, Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Wilbur Whitney, Glenn Hansen and Abraham Russel, one sister, Harriet and a grandson, Peter Lawrence Winward. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Suncrest 9th Ward, 130 N. 400 West, Orem, Utah under the direction of the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Orem, Utah. Friends may call at the church from 9-9:45 a.m. prior to service. Burial will be in the Whitney Cemetery, Whitney, Idaho.
