Id Obits Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Id/FranklinObits/186 Surname: Merrill, Beets, Dunn ------------------------- The Logan Herald Journal 08-13-2000 Jean Beets Merrill, 76, passed away after a courageous battle against cancer on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City with her family at her side. Jean was born July 16, 1924, in Hillsdale, Kansas, the youngest of 11 children of Fred and Clara Dunn Beets. She married Maurice W. Merrill, from Preston, Idaho, on Sept. 29, 1945, in Washington D.C. Jean and Maurice lived in Chicago, Ill. during the early years of their marriage while Maurice attended optometry school. Upon graduation, they relocated to Logan where Maurice established his practice. In addition to raising a family, Jean worked for Thiokol and Logan Manufacturing for 29 years as a contract administrator, until her retirement. She loved bridge, golfing, fishing, and traveling with her family. She was a member of the Logan Golf & Country Club and also served on the CAPSA Board of Directors for six years. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Maurice of Logan; by a son, Roger B. (Debbie) Merrill, Sacramento, Calif.; by two daughters, Patricia (James) Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Vickie (Jay) Kresie of Providence, Utah. She is also survived by her sister, Pauline Smith; brothers, Fred and Bill Beets; a sister-in-law, Maxine McNutt; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, in the Logan City Cemetery. Following the short service, there will be a luncheon at the Merrill residence, 1608 Sunset Dr., Logan, in tribute to Jean's beautiful life. Friends and family are invited to share these precious memories. A special thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the University of Utah Hospital and for the exceptional doctors and nurses for their loving care. Arrangements are being handled by Webb Funeral Home in Preston, Idaho.
