George was born in San Luis Obispo, California on February 24, 1927 to Louise Ruth Bosch and LeGrande Butterworth. George lived in Franklin, Idaho during his boyhood, then moved to Salt Lake City with his mother and two brothers. He attended West High. George joined the U.S. Navy on active duty in 1945, and served on the U.S.S. Dixie repairing battle ships so they could continue fighting until they could get back to base. He married Joan Sutherland on Feb. 9, 1952. They raised four wonderful children, Lynda (deceased 1993), Bryan, Dyanna Lynn and Georgie (Laurie). He loves five grandsons, Quinn (Audrey) Hoskins, Levi, Corbin, Justin Butterworth and Corie Mikesell, and great-grandchildren, Devone Butterworth, Emma Mikesell, Priscilla, Anthony, Boston and Paris Hoskins, the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his two sisters, Ruth Butterworth and Joyce Parry Pratt. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Robert and Richard. George retired in 1998 after working at Big "4" Distributing Company in Provo for 33 years. He had many, many friends in Provo that he missed dearly. George enjoyed refinishing furniture, making things that were old, look new. He also loved to make figures out of wood, ceramics, especially animals, he enjoyed fishing and deer hunting until his health made him give it up. Graveside Services will be held Monday, March 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Valley View Memorial Park! , 4400 West 4100 South. The family will receive friends at a visitation Sunday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South. Published in the Deseret News on 3/4/2007.
