She was born May 21, 1947, in Preston, Idaho, to Frank and Maxine Jensen Johnson. She was raised in Preston, and attended school there. After graduation, she attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. She married Mark Powell on October 5, 1968, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings including Primary, Cub Scouts, the Young Women’s, in the name extraction program and as a visiting teacher. She was involved in the community with the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts and as an election judge. She was a historian, doing a lot of genealogy. She enjoyed horseback riding, and was an avid sports fan. She loved spending time with her family, and watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports. She is survived by her husband; four sons, Edward Powell of Springfield, Idaho, John Powell, Bruce Powell, Andrew Powell, all of Pocatello, Idaho; three daughters, Kimberly Wheeler of Caldwell, Idaho, Mary Powell of Pocatello, Idaho, Betsy Powell of Boise, Idaho; her mother, Maxine Johnson; six sisters, six brothers and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2001, at the Lakeview LDS Chapel, with Bishop Larry Lankford conducting. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight, Thursday, January 4, 2001, at the Hawker, Hill Funeral Home, and for one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Springfield Cemetery.
