He was 73. Dr. Poulsen was born April 15, 1934, in Thatcher, Idaho, to Agnes Lloyd and Alden Poulsen. He was raised in Rigby, Idaho, and attended Ricks College before serving an LDS Mission to the Central States. He attended undergraduate and medical school at the University of Utah, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine in 1961. He met his wife, Dorothy Ferney, during medical school on a blind date. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 8, 1958. He joined the Air Force Senior Medical Program and interned at Brooke General Hospital on Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. As a Captain in the Air force, he was stationed at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, where he also served as a Bishop for the LDS Church. After completing his military service, he set up medical practice in Caldwell, Idaho, in 1965. In 1970 the fami! ly moved to Layton, where he joined the Tanner Memorial Clinic. In Layton he again served as Bishop for the LDS Church, as well as various other church callings. After practicing at the Tanner Clinic for 16 years, he was offered a fellowship at the U of U, where he obtained the degree of Master of Public Health. Following this he joined the Utah Peer Review (now Health Insight) as their corporate medical director. He was an associate Clinical Professor at the Department of Family & Community Medicine, U of U College of Medicine; on the Board of Trustees, Utah State Medical Association; President of Medical Staff, Humana Hospital Davis North; and President of the Davis County Medical Society. He presented his paper, "Nobody's Money: Introducing Choice-Card, An Alternate Approach to Medical Care Financing" at various medical conferences around the country, including the International Conference on Affordable Health Care, in Singapore in February of 1995. The Davis County Medi! cal Association and Alliance presented Dr. Poulsen the 2007 Doctor of the Year Award for his outstanding service to the Davis County Community and his commitment to excellence in patient care. After retirement in 1995, he and his wife served an LDS mission as the area medical adviser for the Mexico South Area. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy, and children, Stephen L. (Joan) Poulsen of Layton; Deborah (Arden) Engebretsen of Highland; Tamara (Michael) Schaelling of Layton; and Barbara (Nick) Wells of Dallas, TX; as well as 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His life was dedicated to his family and he will be remembered for his Christ-like example and compassion. He is also survived by his 97 year-old-mother, Agnes Lloyd Poulsen, two brothers, R. Kay (Coleen) and Ronald (Colleen) and one sister Donna (J.B.) Maxwell. Preceded in death by his father, Alden Poulsen, and a sister, Dolores. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Peacefield Ward LDS Chapel, 1589 East Gentile, Layton. Friends ! and family may call Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the chapel. Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the LDS Missionary and Perpetual Education Funds.
