Harvey was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 18, 1921, to Flory May and Daniel Baker. His family soon moved to California, where Harvey grew up. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II, and married Joan Mecham on December 11, 1941. Harvey and Joan always worked as a team and built a successful life together. They opened H.E. Baker Construction Company. Harvey was an excellent general engineering contractor and estimator, and Joan an efficient office manager. Harvey served on the board of directors of the EGCA of California for many years. Their son, Bob, joined the company, and over the years, they completed successful construction projects all over Southern California, such as the Long Beach Harbor Queen Mary parking lot. After Harvey and Joan "retired," they opened San Palos Real Estate and Investments, and continued to work as a team until they bought a retirement home in Sun City, Arizona. In 1993, they moved to Preston, Idaho, Joan's birthplace. An eternal family was Harvey and Joan's hearts' desire. They loved each other dearly and were inseparable. Harvey will be missed by his wife, Joan, and his children, Bob and Linda Baker, Lonnie and Bob Bradley, Patti and Bob Boe; his 14 grandchildren; and his 17 great-grandchildren. He loved his family and had a wonderful, dry wit that brought joy to all. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Harvey served as ward clerk, as elder's quorum president, and then as bishop in the California-San Pedro Ward. He loved deep sea fishing, playing tennis, golf, bowling, reading, and watching NBA games. The family extends their love and appreciation to Dr. Beckstead, the Franklin County nursing staff, the Home Health staff, Tyler, neighbors, and loved ones. Funeral services will be held at the Preston Idaho Eighth Ward (213 S. 200 E.) on Saturday, July 28, at noon, with Bishop Randy Wakley conducting. A viewing will be held in the Relief Society Room from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. He will be interred in the Preston Cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to joanv@plmw.com. Arrangements are by Webb Funeral Home. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
