Author: AMHhenley Surnames: Roe, Corbridge, Farrer Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.idaho.counties.franklin/2108/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Deseret Morning News, 06/26/07 John "Jack" L. Roe, born 19 March 1939 to John "Jack" Lomax Roe and Phyllis Corbridge in Preston, Idaho, passed away on 24 June 2007 at home with family. My death was a result of bad health and good living. "Believing as I do that when a person dies we lose a library, I was a husband, father and grandfather, an artist, wood carver, sculptor of stone, sailor (United States Navy Corpsman), para-archeologist, museum registrar, x-ray technician, photographer, historian, writer, hunter, lifetime NRA member, free mountain man, and avid fly and flat/saltwater fisherman. I've buried some good friends and one good dog, and learned and forgotten countless times that life is a limited-time offer. I was raised in Preston, Dubois, and Gooding, Idaho where I spent almost every waking moment on the Big and Little Wood Rivers. I was the oldest of three children, and made my own rules as many have seen me do. The family moved first to the Salt Lake City Rose Park area and then to Provo where! I graduated from Provo High in the great year of 1957. Soon after, I joined the U.S. Navy. A year later I married my high school sweetheart, JoAnn Farrer of Provo, in Los Angeles, California, after she graduated (from Provo High). We were high school sweethearts. Among other, lesser assignments, I was assigned to VF92 fighter squadron out of Alameda, California and was deployed to all five aircraft carriers, on the west coast at that time, and three Naval and Marine air stations before leaving the Navy in 1963. We put our anchor down in Salt Lake City and then Murray, Utah, where we have spent the years raising five of six children, and I in pursuit of better hunting and bigger fish. I was preceded in death by my parents, sister (Sandra), and daughter (Shanna Lee). I am survived by my wife and children, Shane (Ann) of Kearns; Patrick K. (Gaye) of Lehi; Taryn (Paul) Olds of Ogden; Mike A. (Kathy) of West Jordan; Josh L. of Murray; a mess of grand kids and great-grandkids, a! nd the best friends a man can have. Memorial services, or garden party , will be held in the outdoors surrounded by blue sky or even waterfowl weather! My ashes will be consigned partly to the side of my wife and soul mate, and the rest scattered at Flaming Gorge, or Wood Tick, Ferron Canyon. The party will be conducted by family and friends. I'd like it to be a time to share memories and laughing and talking as though I'm still with you. I've always felt people could dress as they wanted, and always felt dressed up in skins or Levis and boots, shorts, tank tops and sandals. My family and friends are invited to wear their favorite, casual dress, western or other (skins?). In lieu of flowers, I would suggest donations be made to Ducks Unlimited, the NRA, the Mule Deer and Elk Foundations, or the Nature Conservancy. Suit your fancy, or take a kid or good friend fishing, or to dinner ----- or both! My graveside services will be Fri., June 29, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1950 East. A visitation for all of my family and fri! ends will be Thurs. evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street. Ron was born to Chester Phoenix and Beth Mecham Christensen on February 5, 1937, in Preston, Idaho. The family later included Sonja Beth, Gloria, Orvid, and Ranae Alice. Most the family's growing years were spent in Pocatello. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1955. In Pocatello he met DeEtta Gail Jensen and so began their long and loving relationship. After serving as a missionary in the Central States Mission for the LDS Church, Ron returned home to Idaho - and DeEtta. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls, Idaho, LDS Temple on October 30, 1959. They were married over 46 years before DeEtta passed away on May 16, 2006. One of Ron's great loves was his country. He served in the National Guard on full-time active duty for many years, then later in the Reserves. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after nearly 40 years of able and devoted service. The National Guard took them to California in 1966. They always said they went to California to get their family since their three boys, Michael, Paul and Joseph, were born there. The family returned "home" to Idaho in early 1978 and found a home in Shelley in August. This is where they spent the rest of their years, raising their boys, being and making wonderful friends, and serving in the church and the community. Another of Ron's great loves was teaching. This included teaching in the military, early morning Seminary, Hunter Safety Education courses, and the Gospel Doctrine class in Sunday School. He enjoyed the time spent serving as bishop of the Shelley 2nd Ward. Scouting was another great love of Ron's life. For over 40 years, he remained actively involved in all aspects of Scouting on many levels and was awarded the Silver Beaver by the Wolverine District. He also served on the Shelley City Council for 10 years. Ron is survived by Michael and his wife Annette, grandchildren: James, Brendan, Joshua, Sarah Jane, and Katelyn (Grandpa's "Katy-bug" as he called her) of Layton, Utah; Paul of Portland, Ore., and Joseph of Sandy, Utah; his sisters and brother, Gloria's husband, Robert; Orvid's wife, LeeAnn; DeEtta's sisters, Eva (Gary), Shirley (Clair), and Naomi (Russell), and seven nieces and 16 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sonja's husband, Stan, DeEtta's sister and her husband, Elsie and Dennis Birch, two of their sons, Steven and Brian Birch, and his beloved companion, DeEtta. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at 11 a.m. in Shelley, Idaho, Stake Center, 325 East Locust, with Bishop Barry Hanson conducting. A viewing will be held on Monday, June 11, 2007, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak, in Shelley, as well as 9:30 to 10:40 a.m. at the church, prior to the funeral. Internment will be in the Preston City Cemetery. As the time for our parents to reunite has come, creating separation from those of us who remain, we express love to all the family, friends, and medical personnel who have so tenderly cared for both our parents in their times of need. Author: AMHhenley Surnames: Ward Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.idaho.counties.franklin/2098/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Deseret Morning News, 06/05/07 Ronald Edward Ward was born February 6, 1944 in Preston Idaho. He passed away surrounded by his loved ones on June 4, 2007 succumbing to chronic lymphocytic leukemia, against which he valiantly fought for nine years. Leaving the family farm in Idaho he traveled, worked, and served throughout his 63 years in cities including Washington D.C., Mexico City, Manila, San Juan, Las Vegas, and Houston. He retired in South Jordan after 31 years of service in the FBI. Above all else, most important to him were his wife and family. He leaves behind his wife, Sherry Ward, and their eight children, 15 grandchildren, and his enduring legacy of dedication to them. He had a wry wit, and a tendency to find humor in and deflate difficult situations. He had a knack for fixing anything, and if he had had the manual on himself he might have been able to "fix" his cancer. To borrow the words of Thoreau, "He came to this world because he wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential fac! ts of life and see if he could not learn what they had to teach; and not, when he came to die, discover that he had not lived." Ronald lived in such a way that his life gave strength and hope to friends and family alike. His obedience to the command to live well brought life to those who knew him. One cannot imagine such a strong man dying. Thus beyond the veil of death we must believe that he lives on and continues his work and love. The family would like to express their gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and support personnel of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 7, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel at 9750 South 2200 West. Family and friends are welcome to come to pay their respects beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park South Valley. Published in the Deseret News on 6/5/2007. June was born to Levi and Martha Whitehead Oliverson on June 1, 1917, in Franklin, Idaho. She was the youngest of eight children. During her school years she learned to play the trumpet and developed a great love for the music of John Philip Sousa. She was active in school activities as a thespian, singer, cheerleader and one of her proudest moments were when she was elected student body president her senior year at Franklin High School and chosen to be Valedictorian. She moved to Logan after her graduation where she attended Utah State Agricultural College for a short time and recalls walking uphill over two miles to school. She met Alton Kingsford on June 15, 1937, at the Idaho Day celebration in Franklin. They got engaged near her birthday in 1938 and were married in the Logan LDS Temple on April 20, 1939. Alton and June settled in Cove. In 1940, June and Alton opened Kingsford Korner which held center stage in Cove until it was demolished for the highway expansion. June was instrumental in the running of the service station until it closed around 1991 shortly before Alton passed away. June was passionate about music and had a beautiful voice. She was always happy to favor friends, family, and nurses with her rendition of "How Great Thou Art", which was her favorite hymn. She was involved in the Singing Mothers and was able to sing at the rededication of the Logan LDS Temple. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She held many positions in the church including Primary chorister, church custodian with Alton, ward historian, and led the music in Relief Society until about 2005. She loved to crochet and shared that talent with her friends and family freely. Hot pads, dishcloths, and afghans crocheted with love and great attention to detail are prized possessions of her friends and family. June had a delightful sense of humor and enjoyed visits from family and friends in Cove.
