Our dad was born March 21, 1945 in Preston, Idaho to his wonderful parents, Glenn and Gwen Petterborg Call. Dad grew up in Preston, where he graduated from high school. He attended Idaho State University; then later married Linda Ann Smedley August 13, 1964, in the Logan Temple. They have three children together. They were later divorced. He spent the last 10 years of his life with his sweetheart, Linda Wyatt "L.W." Our dad started his career as a carpenter following in his father's footsteps. Dad built many beautiful homes in Preston along with LDS churches in Idaho, Utah, and California. Because of his expertise, work ethic and passion for building it eventually led into a fulfilling career as a commercial project manager. In 2005, he was awarded "Contractor of the Year" by Sandy City. O! ur dad's true love was his family. He never missed a birthday, holiday, or any other special event that included his family. He was always the first one to arrive and the last one to leave. No matter if you were family or not, you always got a big hug and smile from him. Dad loved being in the outdoors- fishing, camping, river rafting, motorcycling, snowmobiling, and skiing. But Dad had an unbelievable passion for fishing, not the "catching" but just the "fishing." One of the things that gave our dad great pride was snowcross racing with his son, Brian (Willy). He never missed a race whether it was in Vermont, Canada, or Washington. He was always there supporting Brian as his mechanic and #1 fan. Many great memories and friendships were made throughout the many years of racing. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: AMHhenley Surnames: Hawkins, Harker Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.idaho.counties.franklin/2146/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hazel Virginia (Harker) Hawkins Idaho State Journal, 09/06/07 IDAHO FALLS - Virginia Hawkins, 85, of Idaho Falls passed away on Sept. 3, 2007, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after a short illness. Virginia, the youngest of 8 children, was born on August 13, 1922, in Shelley, Idaho, to Amos and Hazel Harker. Virginia grew up in Shelley where she graduated with honors from Shelley High School in 1940. After high school she was working in the office of Doctor Schiess when she met her eternal partner, Weldon Hawkins. Virginia and Weldon fell in love and were married in the Logan LDS Temple on July 15, 1942. They moved to Preston, Idaho, where Weldon worked in the local drug store as a pharmacist and Virginia worked in the office of Dr. Cutler. Their first son, Robert, was born in Preston in 1943 before they moved on to Salt Lake City where Weldon managed a pharmacy before being accepted to medical school in Cleveland, Ohio. They spent the next five years in Cleveland where their second son, David, was born in 1948. In 1949 Virginia and her growing family returned to Idaho where she and Weldon purchased and operated Gate City Pharmacy and other businesses until 1970. Virginia worked very hard with Weldon, doing the bookkeeping, payroll and running the prescription department. During these years Virginia raised her sons while working full-time in the businesses, spending any spare time she might have left in her rose garden, or working on her many knitting and crocheting projects that produced beautiful blankets and clothing enjoyed by all of her family. She knitted beautiful sweaters for her family, afghans for the home, and baby blankets for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took a lot of pride in her handiwork and always kept her home beautiful and clean. "Aunt Ginny" was always close to her nieces and nephews. Her family kept close by frequent (very large) family reunions. Virginia also found the time to function as Stake Sunday School Secretary for 10 years. She was a loving and caring person, who was able to keep her "boys" on the straight and narrow despite their temptations to go hunting and fishing on Sunday when they should have been in church with her. After 1970, Virginia and Weldon lived in Cedar City, Utah, and Burley, Idaho, where they made many new friends and acquaintances in the medical profession and in the church. During these years Virginia was a very capable pharmacy tech for numerous pharmacists. After retirement Virginia and Weldon traveled to St. George during the winter months of 1984 through 1994 to enjoy friendships and to work in the temple. They moved to Idaho Falls from Burley in 1994 to be closer to her family. Virginia is survived by her husband, sister Erma Cox of Idaho Falls, her sons and their wives, Robert (Marilyn) and David (Coleen) Hawkins, 8 grandchildren, and 12 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Crooks and Gladys Bair, and brothers, Hallace, Norman and Raymond Harker, and one grandson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Nalder Funeral Home 110 West Oak, Shelley, Idaho 83274. The family will receive friends Friday evening between 7 and 8:30 p.m. and Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will be in the Restlawn Cemetery. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: AMHhenley Surnames: Nelson, Ames, Smith, Egbert Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.idaho.counties.franklin/2137/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Idaho State Journal, 08/21/07 GRACE - DeRay Henry Nelson, 83, was born on December 16, 1923, the third child of John Henry and Susehannah Ames Nelson, near Preston at Mink Creek, Idaho. DeRay passed away on August 20, 2007, after a long and courageous struggle with the ravages of diabetes, culminating in a series of major strokes. In the last eight days of his life he was surrounded by his loving wife, children, grandchildren and dear friends as he made his way slowly from this life into the next to be reunited with his loved ones waiting for him. When he was 13 months old, his mother passed away along with the baby son she was carrying, DeVere. From that day, DeRay and his father were constant companions. They moved several times from Stockton to Tremonton to Mink Creek before finally settling in the Grace area, where they remained. When he was 9 years old DeRay was working for farmers to help support his ailing father. By the time he was in seventh grade, he had to quit school and go to work full time. DeRay was inducted into the U.S. Army in March 1943, and was assigned as a combat medic with the 526th Armored Infantry Battalion. He first saw action in World War II as he landed on Utah beach during the D-Day invasion. He later was with his unit at the Battle of the Bulge, where he drove a half-track ambulance onto the field to return the wounded to the field hospital. His vehicle was fired upon many times as he made the dangerous trek. On his birthday, December 16, 1944, he and 27 of his men were captured by the Germans, held for about 36 hours, and then released to return to their troops. Fifty-eight years later, he was awarded the Bronze Star, commemorative medals for DDay and the Battle of the Bulge, along with European Campaign Badge with four campaign stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory in Europe Medal, American Campaign Medal and the Ruptured Duck, his discharge pin. They were presented to him in a very moving ceremony presided over by members of several branches of the military in full uniform and with proud family members, close friends, and fellow veterans in attendance. They are displayed proudly in his home for all to see. After the war he returned home to meet a very pretty young woman named Beverly Ann Smith. Ten days after her 16th birthday they were married in Preston, Idaho, on January 10, 1946. They became parents of five children, twins, Susan Marie and Steven Ray, John Samuel, Bruce Lee and DeWynn William. DeRay was then able to fulfill the dream of his life and purchase his own farm from Irvin McCann, and later the family farm from the estate of his wife's family. Beverly was suddenly taken from life on December 7, 1990. Three years later, DeRay courted and married Carol Lee Egbert, local kindergarten teacher, to the great delight of his children. They were sealed in the Las Vegas LDS Temple on December 28, 1994. DeRay is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Lee; his children, Steven (Camille) Nelson, Lewiston, Utah, Susan (Glenn) Pattie, Pocatello, Idaho, John (Gail) Nelson, Island Park, Idaho, Bruce (Mary Lou) Nelson, Grace, Idaho, and DeWynn (Kathy) Nelson, Las Vegas, Nev. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Pauline Egbert; five brothers and sisters-in-law; and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Beverly, sister, Eliza and infant siblings, DeVere and Edris, a grandson and greatgrandson, and two weeks prior to his death by his beloved dog, Toby, who will be buried with his best friend. The family expresses deepest gratitude to all those of the Southeastern Idaho Hospice program, and especially his main caregivers, Nurse Gina Martin, Aide Suzanne Ward and Social Worker Rod Johnson. They made DeRay's last days more comfortable and much easier for a grieving family. We love you, Sweetheart, Dad, Grandpa, and wish you the best as you reunite with those on the other side. Know that you will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 23, 2007, at noon at the Grace Stake Center. The family will meet with friends on Wednesday, August 22, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home, 139 E. Second S., in Soda Springs, and also on Thursday, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the stake center prior to services. Burial will be at the Grace Cemetery. 1. [IDFRANKL] Blanche Fifield Marler (1919-2007) Obituary
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: AMHhenley Surnames: marler, Fifield, Fife Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.idaho.counties.franklin/2135/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Logan Herald Journal, 08/18/07 LEWISTON - Blanche Fifield Marler, 87, died Aug. 14, 2007, following a stroke. Family members were in attendance, and it was a peaceful passing. Born Nov. 23, 1919, in Weston, Idaho, Blanche was the daughter and fifth child of Wesley Andrew Fifield, a farmer and grain buyer, and Abigail Kilbourn Fife, bookkeeper for the family business. Blanche attended elementary school in Weston, where she enjoyed spelling bees and times table matches. She loved high school, especially singing the lead in the school musical each of her four years, going to dances, and playing basketball on the girls' team. She graduated valedictorian in her class of '25. On July 3, 1934, Blanche was attending the weekly dance in Preston, Idaho, when McKay Marler, the "Fox Trot King," asked her to dance. After a few fox trots, waltzes, and two-steps, they became high school sweethearts and were married Feb. 11, 1938, in the Logan LDS Temple. Shortly after their marriage, Blanche and McKay moved to the Marler farm in Lewiston, Utah, where they have spent their lives together. They milked cows, raised all kinds of crops, and had five children, four sons and a daughter. On top of her homemaking career, Blanche worked as a bookkeeper for the tomato company, seamstress in a sewing factory, and helping McKay on the farm, until she decided to attend beauty school and set up shop in her home. Blanche's Beauty Shop was a highly successful business for 35 years. Blanche was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, faithfully serving in whatever calling she was given. Her exceptional musical talent fitted her especially for chorister, 20 years in the Junior Sunday School, but also in Senior Sunday School and Relief Society. She rarely missed a week singing sweet soprano in the ward choir, and she and McKay served many years in the Logan LDS Temple as proxy for sealing ordinances. Blanche's life can be described with the words service, sacrifice, work, determination, and generosity. Taking soup or bread to sick people, teaching friends how to sew, taking her beauty shop equipment to a sick person's home weekly and doing her hair - these were her activities and pastimes. Her family, which has grown to 22 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren, cherishes memories of family dinners around the big dining room table. Like the wise steward, Blanche was blessed with a variety of talents, and in every case she has used those talents for the benefit of her family and friends until they have multiplied and will live on in those who have had the privilege of knowing her. She is survived by her sweetheart, McKay P. Marler; four sons: Loron W. (Cathy) of Ogden; Jeryl M. (Karen) of Ogden; Wayne F. (Melaine) of Franklin, Idaho; Clair A. (JoAnn) of Lewiston, Utah; one daughter, Kris (Nolan) Olsen of Fruit Heights, Utah; 21 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren. Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother; her brothers and sister: Ray, Howard, Margaret (Campbell), and Floyd; one granddaughter, Jozette Marler Campbell; and one great-grandson, Joseph Marler. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, in the Lewiston 4th Ward Chapel, 16 South Main, with Bishop Don Baldwin conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Lewiston 4th Ward Chapel and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday also at the church. Interment will be in the Lewiston City Cemetery.
