    1. [IDFRANKL] LaMonte B. Hyde (1916-2008) Obituary
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: AMHhenley Surnames: Hyde, Baird, Simmonds Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.idaho.counties.franklin/2221/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Idaho State Journal, 01/04/08 PRESTON - On Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, LaMonte "Monte" B. Hyde passed peacefully from this life from causes related to cancer. LaMonte was the oldest of five children born to Amasa W. Hyde and Orpha Leona Baird on Oct. 8, 1916. After Orpha died when Monte was young, he was raised by his stepmother, Ruey Taggart, and he helped take care of three additional siblings added to the family. LaMonte grew up on a farm in Lewiston, Utah, and learned very young how to work hard. He never quit working, and always took pride in keeping up a well-manicured yard, an abundant garden, and his home well-kept and neat. Having been lined up by mutual friends, LaMonte married a city girl from Salt Lake, Mima Irene Simmonds, on Sept. 24, 1941, in Fresno, California, where Monte was stationed in the military. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple. This marriage produced seven sons and two daughters, and life was never dull! LaMonte served as a medic in the Army Air Corps, stationed in San Francisco, Burma, China and India. After an honorable discharge in 1945, and a few odd jobs in Salt Lake City, LaMonte and Mima moved to Todd Park/Tooele area, where they acquired many long-lasting friendships. During these years Monte went to barber school. He finished the six-month course in four months and passed the exam with 99 percent. He became the best barber around, and didn't stop until he was 90. His last haircut was given on May 24, 2007. People came from miles around to get one of his haircuts and head massage! He enjoyed so much the associations of his clients in the barbershop. He would often do "house-calls" for those who couldn't get out. LaMonte was always ready and willing to help whenever a neighbor or friend called or had a need. You could always count on him. While living in Tooele, LaMonte pursued his hobby and love of horses, acquiring the first of many. He was a member of the Bit and Spurs Riding Club, and the Sheriff's Posse, and even won a few races. He shared his love of horses and the outdoors with his children and grandchildren, showing them the beauties of the trails and mountains throughout Northern Utah and southern Idaho. After moving to Preston in 1957, Monte involved the community in his love of horses and was instrumental in the 4-H horsemanship program. For many years he would ride his beautiful Morgan stallions in the Preston and Lewiston parades. Because of his concern being away from his wife for too long with her declining health, he finally gave up riding at age 89. LaMonte was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a counselor and later as branch president in Todd Park, and had been a dance director, chorister, teacher, faithful home teacher, and various other positions. Many will remember the beautiful tenor voice LaMonte was blessed with. He sang in high school groups and musicals, always hummed as he cut hair, and many nights his home was filled with music as the family sang the oldies, and favorite Christmas carols around the piano. LaMonte supported all his children in their music, school, and sports endeavors. He loved going to recitals, plays, baptisms, etc., for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved visiting with and being around his family! LaMonte really loved road trips. He would take his family throughout the Western states to see all the sights. He especially loved Yellowstone, and after his children moved away he would take the grandchildren to enjoy the wildlife and beautiful scenery. LaMonte was welcomed beyond the veil by his loving parents, brothers Norris and Farrell, sister Ilene, and son Michael. He leaves behind brothers, Milton (Dorothy), Stanley (Katherine); sisters, Glenna (Stan) Richardson, Venice Sorenson; children, Boyd, Reggie (Marcia), Douglas, Bob (Carmen), LaRene (Jr.) Chambers, Cary (Nancy), Dawn (Kris) Stoddard, David (Ann); 27 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m. at Preston, Idaho North Stake Center, 310 N. State St., Preston, Idaho. Friends and family may call Sunday, Jan. 6, 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Mortuary, 109 E. Oneida, or prior to the services from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the Preston Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.webbmortuary.com. film. He became interested in gemology and followed that hobby for several years. He served in many callings as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including counselor in the Ward Sunday school presidency, in the Seventies Quorum, in the bishopric, as a member of the high council, as a branch president in Greenock, Scotland, high priest quorum leadership, as a stake missionary, and many years in the Scouting program. He and Marva served as officiators at the Idaho Falls Temple, served a full-time mission for the LDS Church in Scotland and a mission in the Atlanta, Georgia, LDS Temple. He is survived by his wife, Marva; their son, Richard (Sandra) Rydalch of Idaho Falls; five grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank (Margaret) Rydalch; and a sister, Paulleen (Ivan) Abegglen. Author: AMHhenley Surnames: Newbold, Gilbert, Elijah Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.idaho.counties.franklin/2220/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Logan Herald Journal, 01/02/08 Thella G. Newbold, 89 years old, died peacefully on Dec. 29, 2007, due to congestive heart failure at the Cache Valley Assisted Living Center in Providence, Utah. She returned to be with her loving husband, Floyd Newbold, her parents, a daughter, Dee Ann Newbold, and two sisters, Ardyth Arbon and Mavis Kirkman. Thella was born on Dec. 11, 1918, to Ettna Elijah-Gilbert and Lottie Rawlings Gilbert at their home in Fairview, Idaho. She was born during the flu epidemic and caught the flu right after she was born. When she was born she weighed around 7 lbs and when she was three months old she only weighed 5 lbs. When she was a little girl she and her sister cut out paper dolls from old catalogs and played house. She played jacks and loved to read. When she was 12 years old she learned to embroider and she did that while she was tending the cows. She has embroidered, crocheted and quilted all her life and she enjoyed that hobby a lot. She has won many blue ribbons at the Cache County Fair and the Utah State Fair for her sewing and canning. When she graduated from 8th grade at Virginia, Idaho, grade school she was the valedictorian and when she graduated from Downey High School she was salutatorian. She always has enjoyed reading, math (especially Algebra) and spelling. Studying was easy for her because she loved to learn. She met Floyd LaVern Newbold at a dance in Cambridge, Idaho. They dated for four years. They went to movies in Downey, which cost 25 cents, and lots of dances. They were sealed for time and all eternity on April 21, 1938, (which was her mother's birth date) in the Logan LDS Temple. About a month after they were married they went to town to buy a few items. They sat in the car and counted their money, which consisted of $5 and some change. But when they were in the store they could not find the money. They looked but could not find it. They had to go home and got a job picking strawberries and thinning sugar beets for $8.00 an acre. Floyd bought a small seven-acre fruit farm on Providence south bench with a $300 down payment. The farm had a small, two room house, which they lived in until 1947, when they built a new home on the property. They lived there for 65 years. They raised strawberries, raspberries, dewberries, apples, pears, peaches, grapes and cherries. They worked hard all their lives on the farm. They are the parents of three children, Ona Herring (Gordon) of River Heights, Vern Newbold (Joy) of West Jordan, and David Newbold (Lorene) of Kaysville. They have 11 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren, and mom cherished all the time she could spend with them. Mom and Dad were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mom held many positions in the church (Ward and Stake Relief Society, Primary teacher and Sunday School secretary). Mom and Dad became temple officiators at the Logan Temple in April 1983 and were released in August 1989. They loved this mission for the church. Thella is preceded in death by her loving husband, Floyd Newbold; her parents; a daughter, Dee Ann; and two sisters. She was born May 23, 1941, in Van Nuys, Calif., a stunningly beautiful child who was noticed by talent scouts and promptly put into movies. Nancy left the world of films when she was 12 so she could pursue other interests. She excelled in school and music, and was thereafter known for her incredible intellect and top-notch musicianship. She married and had four children. A convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she always held tightly to her faith, using it to steady her when life presented difficulties. She also found joy in her music - performing as well as teaching, which she did for close to 40 years. She was a professional flutist, playing in venues across the country, and was also an accomplished pianist, sharing her talents through the years as an accompanist, ward organist and teacher. She is highly regarded by her former students, as well as the friends and neighbors she met throughout many moves. Nancy was rarely presented with an easy path in life - oftentimes her trials seemed insurmountable, but to the end she had a smile and appreciation for those who were kind to her. We are happy for Mom that she has been set free and can now revisit what she loved in life - genealogy and music. She will be a powerful force in this next chapter of her life, now that she has passed peacefully on Dec. 16, 2007. Unfettered by the world's travails, her spirit will soar. She is survived by her four children, Cathy (Lynn), Donna (Daris), Tricia (Steve) and Kyle; and 17 grandchildren.
