She was born February 4, 1920, in Preston, Idaho, the daughter of Albert and Mary Peterson Porter. Laura was raised in Preston, graduating from high school there. In 1939 she moved to Salt Lake City where she worked as a nanny and housekeeper. While there, Laura dated a man named Cecil Harvey Wilding whom she had met in Preston during her senior year in high school. On May 6, 1939, she married Cecil in Salt Lake City. They lived in Springville for a few years. In 1952 they moved to Idaho where they farmed in the Canyonside area. Then in 1963, they purchased a farm in Hunt and lived there until Cecil retired in 1977. In 1977 they built a new home in Preston, they built a cabin on Blackfoot Reservoir and had a winter home at Beaver Dam, Arizona. They so enjoyed commuting between these homes during the different seasons. In August of 1991, Cecil passed away and Laura sold everything and moved to Twin Falls, where she purchased a home in the Lazy J Mobile Park. She has spent the last two and a half years at the Curry Estates Retirement Center where she had many friends and received the most wonderful care from the staff there. Laura was an active member of the LDS Church. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. She always wanted to do what was right and was always a kind and gentle person to all. She is survived by three children, Lynn Wilding, Twin Falls, Idaho; Kathryn (Tuck) Taylor, Kimberly, Idaho; Carla (Joe) Whitish, Boise, Idaho; four grandchildren, Dale Taylor, Hagerman, Idaho; Jill Taylor, Kimberly, Idaho; Glenn (Wendy) Taylor, American Fork, Utah; and Allison (Billy) King, Meridian, Idaho; 14 great- grandchildren, and by three brothers and one sister, Preston (Margaret) Porter, Boise, Idaho; Blaine (Fern) Porter, Preston, Idaho; John (Clarice) Porter, Logan, Utah; and Fern Larson, Preston, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, and by five brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. State, with Bishop David Fryar conducting. Friends may call Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the stake center. Burial will be in the Richmond, Utah, Cemetery. He was buried in the Holbrook City Cemetary in Holbrook,Az on March 17. He was born in Cleveland, ID, and attended school in Treasureton, Franklin County, ID. He grew up near Whitney, ID. There his dad, Howard Rasmus Smith, and uncle Roy mined calcite during the depression. Surviving him were his wife Ethel Jorgensen Smith, daughters Louise and her husband Marshall Tuller, LaNette and her husband Ronald Towell, and son Richard Jay Smith and his wife Judith. His sister Phyrl Peterson, brother Frank and sister-in-law Janice Cook. He seen born 10 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren. One of the greatest material gifts that he passed on were the photos of his childhood in Franklin County, Idaho.

She was born in Preston, Idaho, to George and Emma Nelson on Jan. 5, 1916. The family moved to Logan where her father, George (Doc) Nelson, was employed at Utah State University. During her junior year at Utah State Lucile married Carlyle Rogers. The two of them made their home in Lewiston, Utah. While in Lewiston they had two sons and a daughter, Russell, George and Carla. The Rogers family then moved to Logan for several years. Carlyle met an untimely death while working in a saw mill during 1956. Lucile moved to San Francisco where she attended a dental-medical school and worked at the Kiaser Medical Center. She moved back to Utah where she worked at the University of Utah Medical Hospital. While living in Salt Lake she married Elmer Lueck. They moved to Logan where Lucile became very active in several service organizations such as president of the local Disabled American Veterans, both local and state; president of the local and regional women's American Legion and president of the local AARP organization. She was the "mother" of the Eagles Lodge. She is survived by her sons Russell (Pat) Rogers, George (JoAnn) Rogers, her daughter, Carla (Cliff) Batchelder. One brother Keith (Karma) Nelson and two sisters, Marget (Dee) Neville and Barbara (O'brian) Jeppsen, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Elmer preceded Lucile in death. Funeral services will be held at the Allen-Hall mortuary at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be at the Logan Cemetery.

She was born May 7, 1915, in Preston, Idaho, the daughter of Jedediah Morgan and Anna Rozella Forsgren Palmer. She married Lyle Orval Petersen on March 21, 1941, in Glendale, California. The marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 9, 1941. Lyle preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1996. Grace and Lyle owned and operated Petersen Drapery in Preston for 45 years. They were known and respected throughout Cache Valley and surrounding area for their quality workmanship. Grace always had an innate talent for interior decorating. She knew the right decor for any room she walked into. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous positions, culminating with nine years officiating in the Logan Temple with her husband. She was a long-standing member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She had a great love for her family, for music, decorating and gardening. She was an example of love, integrity and hard work throughout her life. She is survived by three daughters and one son, Janet P. (Robert) Johnson, Preston; JoLynn P. (Robert) Jex, Tremonton, Utah; Bruce L. (Barbara) Petersen, Preston; and RaNae P. (William) McKee, Pocatello; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and by three sisters, Vera P. Nelson, St. George, Utah; Dorothy P. (Stewart) Greaves, San Diego, California; and Laura P. (Glade) Burgon, Farmington, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, and by four sisters and one brother, Eva Troseth, Margret Shumway, Willis Palmer, Thora Winn and Anna Mae Gould. Martin, 81, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2000, at the Franklin County Nursing Home, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born on September 17, 1918, to William Burton and Elizabeth Ann (Bessie) Casperson Martin in Preston, Idaho. Burt married Colleen Jones on September 7, 1947, and enjoyed nearly 53 years as her companion. Their marriage was solemnized on October 10, 1979, in the Logan LDS Temple. After graduating from Preston High School in 1937, Burt enrolled at the Wiser Vocational School, where he earned a business certificate and played on the school's basketball team. A veteran of World War II, Burt was a member of the first class of Preston inductees who entered the war. He served with the 41st Infantry division, spending most of his four and one-half year enlistment overseas. He saw duty in Australia, New Guinea, the Netherlands, East Indies and the Philippines. Following military service, Burt completed a business degree at Utah State Agricultural College in 1949. He joined Utah Power and Light in 1951 as a bookkeeper in Montpelier, Idaho. After moving with the company to Rexburg, he returned to his hometown in 1958 as sales manager for the Preston Division of UP&L. In 1966 Burt was named division manager of the company's Preston division, a position he retained until retirement in 1983. Active in community affairs, Burt was a member and officer of the Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, Preston Chamber of Commerce, Preston Golf and Country Club and Rotary Club. With two partners, Burt constructed the "Pop 'n Pins" bowling alley in Preston and helped operate the facility for many years. He was a pioneer in the establishment of the television translator station that serves Franklin County. A charter member of the Preston Golf and Country Club, Burt was highly involved in the construction and lighting of the Craner Athletic Field, a Preston softball complex operated by the LDS Church. His church contributions included dedicated service as a home teacher and as executive secretary to Bishop Lowell Castleton in the Preston Eighth Ward. Burt loved the mountains and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a craftsman who gave much of his time and energy to his family, his community and his church. Burt is survived by his wife, Colleen, of Preston and children, Carl (Neal) of Parowan, Utah; Marian (Brent) Maughan of Kaysville, Utah; and Shelley (Wayne) Dodd of Logan, Utah. Surviving siblings include Doloras Johnson White and Fay Foss, both of Preston; Joyce Martin Lund (Daines) of Smithfield Utah; and stepbrother, Roger Jabbs (LaRae) of Alpine, Utah. Thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren continue the Martin traditions. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jennie Mae Martin; sister, June Martin Westfall; brother, Jay Martin; sister, Clarice Martin Cooper; and stepbrother, Glen Jabbs. He was born May 7, 1914, in Preston, the son of James and Dorthea Christensen Jensen who lived in Mink Creek, Idaho. He married his eternal sweetheart, Norma Hanni, on April 15, 1946, in Preston. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple in 1951. He loved people old and young. He lived on a farm in Mink Creek and owned his own milk trucking business. People would ride to town with him. Many children who missed the bus would catch a ride to town with Freaman. After he would double deck the milk cans, ladies and men would ride with him to town and he would haul their merchandise back for them without pay. He ran many errands and could lift two 80-pound milk cans at once and throw them on the truck. He built a new home at 442 N. State St. in Preston and lived there when he turned the truck over to Wayne. He and Norma spent 23 winters in Mesa, Ariz., after he retired. He loved to fish and hunt, and he had horses for most of his life that he enjoyed very much. He was a high priest at the time of his death. He held many callings in the LDS Church throughout his life. He was very committed to attending his church meetings and - even though he did not feel well last Sunday - he attended his meetings. He is survived by his wife Norma, of Preston; a son, Wayne B. Boyack, Preston; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and by a brother, Rex Jensen, of Boise, Idaho. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky F. Jensen, his parents, and by 14 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. Born Dec. 8, 1908 in Weston, ID the daughter of Isaac William and Margaret Alice McKay. Mary's life was an accumulation of many wonderful things. She worked at Hill Air Force Base during the war pack-ing parachutes, as a result of that she became a master rigger and packed parachutes for private jumpers the remainder of her working life. She also worked many years at ZCMI as a seamstress. She was very devoted to her twin sister Mariah, her mother and father, brothers and sisters, and all her nieces and nephews. We have all been loved and benefited from her generosity. She devoted her life to collecting and working on genealogy. Survived by a brother, Dale (Peggy) McKay; sister, Morna Bassett (Harlow, deceased); and sister-in-law, Carol McKay (Orin, deceased). Preceded in death by twin sister, Mariah Ellen; and brothers. When asked what does "Keep your face to the light" mean?, she said "The light of JESUS CHRIST." Ada was a member of the Clearfield 5th Ward, where she served numerous positions. The family would like to thank those who cared for her at Heritage Park Care in Roy and Winter Gardens, Layton and her neighbors. Ada was born November 21, 1907, in Preston, Idaho, to Leo and Malinda May Adams Mecham. She married John Harold Worsley in 1928. They later divorced. She married her eternal companion, Russell C. Nielsen in December, 1937. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple. Ada became a registered nurse in 1929, graduating from Dee Hospital. She later served as a field nurse for the Mexican and United States Government. She retired from HAFB Hospital in 1962. She resided in Clearfield for 50 years. Ada left a very loving family to join loving family with open arms in heaven. She had an eye for beauty. She was very artistic and painted the patterns for her quilts. She loved nature and beautiful flowers. She loved being with her family most of all. She was known for her gracious loving ways. She is survived by her son, DeVon Mecham Worsley, Layton; grandsons, Walter W. Hoeltje, St. Charles, Ill.; Donald A. Hoeltje, Laguna, Niguel, Calif.; Keith A. Worsley, Mesquite, Nev.; and Steven B. Worsley, Clearfield. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell C. Nielsen and great-grandson, Sollie Newell Worsley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Clearfield 5th Ward Center St. Chapel, with Bishop Max J. Wanda was born June 12, 1909, in Preston, Idaho, the fifth of seven children, to Arabella Smart Parkinson and Robert Henry Daines. When she was six, Wanda's family moved to Logan. In college she was active in Sorosis Sorority and the Home Economics Club and was elected to the Associated Women Students Council. Wanda graduated in 1930 from Utah State University in the field of Home Economics. Her first teaching position was in Victor, Idaho. The winters there were cold and long and she told of riding in a horse-drawn sleigh over snow drifts that were taller than the fences. On August 22, 1934, she married Darvel Tibbetts Hammond in the Logan Temple. They lived and worked in Oklahoma City, Okla.; Amarillo, Texas and Independence, Miss. He passed away in December of 1958 and Wanda moved back to Logan and taught Home Economics at South Cache High School. On November 22, 1961, she married Ralph Herbert Vetterli in the Salt Lake Temple. She and Ralph lived in Fresno, Calif., until 1972, when they retired to Logan. Wanda was active in the LDS Church, serving in all the auxiliaries at both the ward and stake level. She served as a stake missionary in Fresno and along with Ralph, worked in the Logan Temple as an officiator. Ralph passed away in September of 1992. As Wanda's health deteriorated it became necessary for her to enter the Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Logan. There she was cared for by the many kind workers and nurses at the facility. We are truly grateful to each for their tender and loving care of our Mother. Surviving Wanda are her son, Dr. Keith Daines Hammond and his wife, Nancy, of Smithfield; her daughter-in-law, Martha Hammond of Providence; her stepdaughter-in-law, Vernadeen Vetterli of Provo; 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Darvel Tibbetts Hammond and Ralph Herbert Vetterli; her son, Dr. Hugh Darvel Hammond and stepson, Dr. Ralph Richard Vetterli; two infant siblings and her brother and sisters, Robert Henry Daines, Luella Sessions, Carman Fredrickson and Marie Johnson. Family and friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Allen-Cranney Mortuary, 420 E. 1800 North, North Logan. A private memorial service will be held by family members on Monday, Aug. 21. Interment will be in the Providence Cemetery in River Heights, Utah. She was reared in Preston and Grace, Idaho, and attended Utah State University. She was a life-long member of the LDS Church in which she held many teaching and leadership positions. She was a member of the Daughters of Pioneers and a member and volunteer teacher at the Autumn Glow Senior Center. She is survived by her son Anthony C. Kloser Jr., of Belcamp, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Elizabeth) Snow of Diamond Bar, Calif.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was born August 5, 1904, in Whitney, Idaho, the third daughter in a family of eight children, to Walter George Thompson and Caroline Laurence. She attended schools in Whitney, Idaho, and Richmond, Utah. She married Newel Willis (Bill) Bullen December 6, 1922. He died Jan. 15, 1946. They were sealed in the Logan Temple September 25, 1986. Verdie married Laurel (Mike) Mortenson in 1974. He died May 11, 1986. Verdie worked with Bill on the Bullen family ranch in Lewiston, Utah, until the ranch was sold. Because of Bill's poor health, they owned and cared for a herd of sheep until his death. She had several jobs, finally working at the Sego Milk Canning Plant in Richmond until she retired. She loved to go to dances, travel, and spend time with her family and friends. She is survived by her three daughters, Colleen (Lewis) Webb, Soda Springs, Idaho; Diane (Dale) Weeks, Smithfield, Utah; Tess (Brent) Rasmuson, Smithfield, Utah. She is also survived by one sister, Irvene VanOrden, Ogden, Utah; 10 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, five sisters, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 16, in the Smithfield 2nd Ward, 175 S. 100 West, Smithfield, Utah, with Bishop Steven Merchant conducting. Friends may call at the church prior to the services from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Richmond City Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Valley View Funeral Home of West Valley City, Utah. The family would like to thank the staff of Sunshine Terrace for their special care.

He was 59 years old. He was born Feb. 28, 1941, in Pocatello, Idaho, a son of Clawson Hewitt and Elma Gray Bennett. He married Joan Woodward on Jan. 21, 1960, in Franklin. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Throughout the important years of his education, he attended schools in Franklin, Preston and Pocatello. Linden spent his life working in sales, traveling through the U.S. He loved his family, traveling, the mountains and the great outdoors. Surviving are his wife Joan of Franklin, Idaho, five sons and their spouses, Laine and Gail, of Roy, Utah, Blake, Preston, Idaho, Vince and Theresa, Greenville, Mich., Shawn and Julie, Richmond, Utah, Shane and Alyson, Litchfield, Ill.; eight grandsons and two granddaughters. Also surviving are two brothers and three sisters, Gary Bennett, Randall Bennett and Klerice Lindstrom, all of Minnesota; Christine Kruger and Sandra Sabbe, both of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Norman and one daughter, Chantell. Funeral services will be held Thursday at noon at the Franklin, Idaho, 2nd Ward Chapel. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Webb Funeral Home in Preston, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the ward chapel in Franklin, Idaho. Jean was born July 16, 1924, in Hillsdale, Kansas, the youngest of 11 children of Fred and Clara Dunn Beets. She married Maurice W. Merrill, from Preston, Idaho, on Sept. 29, 1945, in Washington D.C. Jean and Maurice lived in Chicago, Ill. during the early years of their marriage while Maurice attended optometry school. Upon graduation, they relocated to Logan where Maurice established his practice. In addition to raising a family, Jean worked for Thiokol and Logan Manufacturing for 29 years as a contract administrator, until her retirement. She loved bridge, golfing, fishing, and traveling with her family. She was a member of the Logan Golf & Country Club and also served on the CAPSA Board of Directors for six years. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Maurice of Logan; by a son, Roger B. (Debbie) Merrill, Sacramento, Calif.; by two daughters, Patricia (James) Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Vickie (Jay) Kresie of Providence, Utah. She is also survived by her sister, Pauline Smith; brothers, Fred and Bill Beets; a sister-in-law, Maxine McNutt; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, in the Logan City Cemetery. Following the short service, there will be a luncheon at the Merrill residence, 1608 Sunset Dr., Logan, in tribute to Jean's beautiful life. Friends and family are invited to share these precious memories. A special thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the University of Utah Hospital and for the exceptional doctors and nurses for their loving care. Edmunds Jr., Colorado, Gene (Debbie) Edmunds, Fort Collins, Colorado, Dorothy Ann (Al) Lowe, Fort Collins, Colorado, Edna Sue (Joseph) Wagner, Preston, Idaho; six nieces, two nephews and five great-nieces. "Ick" Porter, 88, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at home. He was born August 7, 1912, in Preston, Idaho, to Ida Barthlome and Ernest Shaffer Porter. He attended school in Preston, where he excelled in sports, especially track. After graduating from high school, he spent several summers in northern Idaho working in the forests. He then entered Utah State University, and later the University of Idaho, Southern Branch. It was here that he met Leah Dixon, whom he married in 1937, a marriage which lasted 63 years. To this union was born two beautiful little girls, Kathleen and Robyn. They were his pride and joy. Ick worked for Covey Gas and Oil Company for many years, and then for a short time he worked in Alaska surveying for the Alaska Highway. During World War II, he served for three years with the 924th Corps of Army Engineers, in England, Holland, Belgium, France and Germany. After returning from the service, he joined his father in Porter Distributing Company, where he worked until his retirement. Following his retirement, he managed the Bannock County Fairgrounds for eight years. He was a member of the Idaho State Cutter Racing Association, Intermountain Quarter Horse Association, and the Bannock County Posse. He was a member of the LDS Church, and served in many callings in that capacity, including Boy Scout leader, bishop counselor, high priest group leader and high councilman. His love for nature took him on many horseback and automobile rides through the pine-covered hills of southeastern Idaho and the maple canyons surrounding Preston. Surviving are his wife, Leah; daughter, Robyn (Brad) Jensen, Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughter, Tiffany (Nick) Harris, Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandsons, Derek Jensen, Jeremy Jensen and Lucas Jensen, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughter, Melissa (Tim) Kammeyer, Sandy, Utah; and four great-grandchildren, Quin Kammeyer, Katie Kammeyer, Lyric Jensen and Derek Jensen; three brothers, Clif Porter, Salt Lake City, Utah, Earl Porter, Bartelsville, Okla., and Nahum Porter, Preston, Idaho; two sisters, Ruth Thompson, Preston, Idaho, and Hazel Bedingfield, Preston, Idaho. Preceding him in death was his daughter, Kathleen, and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000, at the LDS Third Ward Chapel, 225 Oakwood Drive. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening, Friday, Aug. 11, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. Fourth Ave., and one hour prior to services at the church Saturday. He was born Jan. 8, 1911, in Glendale, Idaho, to William Henry and Alta Jensen Auger. He grew up on the family farm in Glendale, attending schools in Glendale, Preston, and the Utah State Agricultural College. He married Ethel Luinna Owen on June 7, 1934, in the Logan LDS Temple. He worked as a mechanic on farm equipment and heavy machinery, retiring from Western Equipment in Pocatello, Idaho, as shop manager in 1976. He traveled to many farms in southeast Idaho fixing farm equipment and had many friends among those farmers. He was very talented at fixing everything for everyone and he loved to garden. He was active in the LDS Church, serving as bishop of the Preston 4th Ward, as stake financial clerk, Sunday School president, and temple officiator at the Logan Temple for over six years. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; four daughters and three sons, Luinna (Milton) Jensen, Alan (Iris) Auger, and Joan Auger, all of Kaysville, Utah; Lorraine (Ramon) Wright, Franklin, Idaho; Owen (Cleone) Auger, Portland, Oregon; Mary (Alan) Bair, Byron, Wyo.; James (Chris) Auger, Pocatello, Idaho; 33 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Sharp; and by four brothers, Bernon, Daniel, Bill, and Hyrum. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Verl and Arnold, and by two grandsons. Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. She was born on April 15, 1939, in Weston, Idaho, the daughter of Jack and Alta Eudora Anderson. She attended school in Weston and Dayton. She married Floyd Porter on June 4, 1953, in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Lewiston for many years and have lived in Smithfield for the past 18 years. She was a member of the LDS Church. She taught Primary for many years and loved being with and teaching children. She worked various jobs over the years, but the jobs she enjoyed most were at Lewiston Drug Store and Beehive Answering Service. She was an avid reader and had a never-ending thirst for knowledge. She gave her all to everything she did. She is survived by her husband, mother, and four children: Rochelle Owen, Smithfield; Sondra (Bill) Spicker, Clinton, Utah; Kelly (Sharon) Porter, Post Falls, Idaho; Sheila (Jeff) Sagers, Ogden, Utah. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, all of whom were the joy of her life: Ryan, Tyson, Amanda, Stephen, Ashley, Holly and Annalee.
