She was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Springville, Utah, the daughter of Jesse Amos and Grace Thorpe Brown. She attended schools in Ely, Nevada, and moved to California where she met and married her sweetheart, George Sylvester Whiting, on Sept. 22, 1947, in Pomona, California. Their marriage was sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple on Feb. 8, 1977. She lived in Jackson, Wyoming, Arizona, and St. George, Utah. She was a member of the LDS Church, having served as a Primary worker and in the Relief Society. She was a member of the BPW, the VFW Auxiliary, the Pink Ladies and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She loved to cook and garden. She made friends wherever she went. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, George Sylvester (Vickie) Whiting II, Panguitch, Utah, Christina "Tina" (Glenn) Smedley, Preston, Curtiss Bradley (Leah Ann) Whiting, Preston; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; by a sister, Gerrie Pinckney, Orem, Utah; and by a brother, Dennis Schultz, Denver, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, by her parents, and by two brothers, Neal Brown and Athole Judd. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in the Preston South Stake Center, 55 E. 1st S., with Bishop Robert Miller conducting. Friends may call Sunday, Nov. 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, and Monday from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the stake center. He was born December 22, 1905, in Preston, Idaho, the son of Niels Christian Carlsen and Marie Christine Sorensen, who were Danish immigrants. He married Annie Sophia Larson on February 20, 1931, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They lived in Pocatello for the 69 years of their marriage. George's service in the LDS Church has been varied. He served a mission in Denmark from 1928-1930, and two stake missions. He was a member of the original Pocatello Stake Prayer Circle, Bishop of the Ninth Ward, and served in various capacities in the Pocatello West Stake and ward priesthood. He was the high priest secretary for 25 years. He was a devoted home teacher, and for many years was the teacher of the gospel doctrine class. He also spent many years doing genealogical research at the stake level, and for the family. He served a machinist apprenticeship for the railroad from 1922-1926, when it was known as the Oregon Short Line. In 1941, he spent six months in training in Washington, D.C., for a job with the Naval Ordnance Plant, and served there in a supervisory capacity until the plant was deactivated. He remained as supervisory caretaker until the plant was occupied by Thiokol Chemical. Leaving Thiokol, he worked as a carpenter during construction of the Pocatello West Stake Center. He also operated an 80-acre farm northwest of the city. He had been interested in the settlement of the community, and local politics. He was a member and past president of the Machinist Labor Union. He is survived by his son, Gary H. (Barbara), of Pocatello; daughters, Cenia (Richard) Parsons of Orem, Utah, Marsha Carlsen of Marysville, Washington, and Ka Jeen (Stan) Barlow of Ithaca, New York; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie Larson Carlsen, his parents, seven brothers, four sisters, his son, John, daughters, Georgann and Rea, and three grandchildren, Ann Marie Carlsen, Lynn Parsons and Sandra Garrett. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 27, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Pocatello West LDS 52nd Ward, corner of Hawthorne and Quinn Roads, with Bishop John Redd officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday evening, Nov. 26, in the Henderson-Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday morning at the church. He was born March 29, 1934, in Provo, Utah, the son of Charles Nahum and Olive Anna Johnson Porter. He enjoyed athletics and during high school and college he won many football and track awards. He served in the Northern California LDS Mission from 1955-57. He married Donna Ruth Brown on Dec. 21, 1957, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Reed loved helping people feel better about themselves and through his profession as a dentist, and through his church callings and personal activities, he was able to accomplish this. He received the Northern Virginia Dental Association Award of Excellence. He enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He was an Eagle Scout and received the Lifetime Friends of Scouting Award. He served in a variety of callings in the LDS Church, but he always favored working with youth. He is survived by his daughter, Lisanne Porter Bobby, Endwell, N.Y.; by his son, Garth Reed (Heather) Porter, Fairfax, Va.; grandchildren, Sommer Lin, Calvin Reed, and Ethan Michael Porter, all of Fairfax, Va.; and by two sisters, Margene (Alma) Wilson, Payson, Utah, and Patricia Ann Porter, Springville, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in the Preston 10th Ward chapel, 155 N. 2nd West, with Bishop Lee Parker conducting. Yonk, 72, passed away Nov. 16, 2000, at his home in Petersboro after a long illness. He was born July 12, 1928, in Logan to Alfred and Eliza Kidman Yonk. He was the youngest of four children. He attended Cache County schools, where he was active in football, basketball, and track at South Cache High School. Nolan was a lifetime farmer and worked in precision optics at Hill Air Force Base where he retired after 30 years. He married DeLores Barker on March 16, 1946, in Preston, Idaho. They recently celebrated 54 years of marriage. Nolan lived in Cache Valley all his life, where he enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and traveling with his family and friends. He was active in the Mendon Wildlife Federation and a member of the LDS Church. He enjoyed coaching young men's softball and basketball. He was involved in many activities within the church. Nolan loved the company of family and friends. He is survived by his wife DeLores; his son, Neil (Laurie) Yonk, Alameda, Calif.; daughters Sheila (Ferrin) Falslev, Logan; Annette (Larry) Haslem, Murray; daughter-in-law Robbyn Yonk, Spring, Texas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law Fred Bailey, Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by his son Jeff; his father and mother; two sisters and one brother. He was born March 2, 1918, at Thatcher, Idaho, the son of David Oliver and Lucille Pond Barthlome. He was raised and educated at Grace, Idaho. He had worked all over the U.S., but he considered Grace his home. He married Geraldine Cox on October 15, 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Lysle was a high priest in the Grace LDS First Ward. He was also a home teacher. He and his wife have been officiators in the Logan Temple for four and a half years. He had worked on Road and Pipeline in construction. Lysle loved horses but especially his grandkids. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, of Grace; two sons and one daughter and their spouses, Edward and Randie Barthlome, Littleton, Colorado; Bud and Linda Barthlome, Soda Springs; JoManda and Boots Lish, Soda Springs. Surviving also are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters, Wilma Webb, Vernal, Utah; Thorn Barthlome, Grace, Idaho; Blaine Barthlome, Ogden, Utah; Alice Wright, Pocatello; and JoAnn McBride, Mackey, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parent and a brother, Keith Barthlome. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 20, at 12 noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center with Bishop George Kimball officiating. She married Don Hunter on Sept. 12, 1939, at Preston, Idaho. They lived on various ranges and ranches in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and California, where Don worked with livestock. He passed away January 8, 1958. Wanda married LaVar Jones at Pocatello, July 11, 1961. He passed away August 26, 1974. She married Wendall Twitchell April 3, 1975, at Elko, Nevada. They lived in Pocatello, Idaho. She is survived by her husband, Wendall Twitchell, of Pocatello; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Carol) Shook, Tucumcari, New Mexico; one granddaughter, Mrs. Craig (Skeater) Doty, and three great-grandchildren, Gallup, New Mexico; a sister, Dawna Bloxham, Pocatello, Idaho; two stepdaughters, Karen Halford, Rigby, Idaho, and Kathy Hoffman, Marlton, New Jersey; and 10 step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Buster Shook, and two brothers, Cecil and Cleo Mossman. "Pat" Condie, 75, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2000, at Bannock Regional Medical Center. He was born February 5, 1925, in Preston, Idaho, to Parley M. and Mary H. Condie. He was the fourth of ten children. He was raised and educated in Preston. During those years he enjoyed great success as an athlete in track, football and basketball. After graduating from high school, Pat attended Utah State University, where he was an accomplished athlete and was president and international president of his fraternity, the Intercollegiate Knights. He earned a degree in Mathematics from Utah State and also gained the attention of Miss Helen Crowther, to whom he became engaged. After graduating from USU, Pat obtained a position as a Math Teacher at Tooele High School in Tooele, Utah. Helen also graduated and became a teacher at Provo High School in Provo, Utah. Helen and Pat were married in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple on July 22, 1950, and they were subsequently blessed with two children. During the years following his marriage, Pat taught school and also continued his own education and earned a master's degree in mathematics education. Later, he earned an additional Master's Degree in Science from the University of Idaho. in 1956 Pat and Helen moved to Pocatello. Pat taught Math at Pocatello High School until 1963 and then joined the faculty at Highland High School where he taught for 27 years. Pat loved his years of teaching at Highland and was devoted to his students and the school. He was very involved at HHS as an activity and class advisor, basketball referee and was the timing official for basketball and wrestling for many years. He attended and helped out at as many other school-related activities as he could possibly fit into his schedule. Pat was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Pocatello Teachers Credit Union shortly after its inception and served in that capacity for more than 35 years. He also served as President of the Pocatello Education Association and represented Highland High School at many Mathematics Education conferences around the region. He was a certified Driver Trainer for the school district and for the county. Pat was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership positions. Pat was a kind, generous man who was dedicated to his family, his school and to his church. He lived to be of service to those around him. Pat is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen; his daughter, Gwendalyn C. (Dana) Lloyd; his son, Steven N. Condie; three grandchildren, Justin, Ashley and Melanie Lloyd; a brother, DeLyle (Judy) Condie, Salt Lake City; a sister, Elizabeth (Fred) Haroldsen, Idaho Falls; a sister, Norma (RG) Lisonbee, Providence, Utah. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 15, 2000, at the Princeton Ward Building, 42 Princeton. Pierce,79, of Pocatello died early Wednesday morning, November 8, 2000, at her home following a lingering illness. She was born August 14, 1921, at Preston, Idaho, to Norman and Anna Salversen Day. Much of her early life was spent in the Downey area where she enjoyed living on the farm. She later lived in Salt Lake City, Utah; Lima, Montana; and Pocatello. She married Alvero (Bud) Monroe Martin August 14, 1939, on her 18th birthday, and they had three children, a son, Darol Blaine Martin of Kenai, Alaska; daughters, Barbara Joyce Magarity and Linda Ann Hubbs, both of Enid, Oklahoma. They divorced in 1946. Johnson October 19, 1946, in Lima, Montana (later divorced). She then married Lester Vernon Pierce June 21, 1965, in American Falls, Idaho, and they lived in Pocatello, Idaho. Her stepsons are Robert Lester Pierce of Bismark, North Dakota; Oscar Kenneth Pierce of Yelm, Washington; and Ronald Ray Pierce of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Wanda enjoyed her work as a beautician and was considered to be one of the best in the area. She also trained Boston terriers for show. The many trophies she won attest to her skills. Her greatest joy in life were her family and her friends. She also enjoyed golf, fishing, camping, quilting and painting. She participated in the Relief Society and Primary of the Pocatello 12th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and belonged to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Wanda is survived by her two brothers, Eugene and Lynn Day; and sister, Dorothy Malott, all of Downey, Idaho; her three children, three stepsons; her nine grandchildren, David Martin of Homer Alaska; Rick Martin of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; Felicia Guidry of Enid, Oklahoma; Brett Bieker of North Ireland; Denise Strom of Orem, Utah; William Bieker of Pocatello; Cindy Wright of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Aaron Hubbs of Portland, Oregon; and Damon Hubbs of Midwest City , Oklahoma; stepchildren, Christine and Crystal Pierce of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and 13 great-grandchildren. Wanda was preceded in death by both her parents and her husband Les. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, November 13, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Downey LDS Ward, Downey, Idaho, with Bishop Reynold Ralphs conducting. The family owned the Brooklawn Creamery. She lived in Logan, Utah, and Delta, Colorado, where she graduated from high school, She attended BYU for one year. She married Neil Bell in Blanding, Utah, and lived in Salt Lake City, Utah; Spokane, Washington; and Osborn, Idaho. With her great-great grandfather crossing the plains with the Willie Hardcart Company, surviving the Hole in the Rock trek and helping to colonize five towns in southern Utah, Sandra had a strong pioneer heritage and was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She inherited her forbearers' endurance and courage. She did oil paintings and enjoyed sailing on Lake Coeur d'Alene. She moved to Preston in 1980 and was active in the church, in Primary Relief Society, as a visiting teacher and ward program preparer. She was instrumental in starting a multiple sclerosis support group. She is survived by a son, Sean and Karen Bell, Logan, Utah; and a daughter, Kate Bell, Boise, Idaho; two grandchildren, Preston and Kristen, both of Logan, Utah; two brothers, Howard Stevens, Phoenix, Ariz., and Gaylen (Maria) Stevens; brother-in-law, Larry (Chris) Ralphs, Clifton, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Vicky Ralphs. Friends may call at the Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, in Preston Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at the stake center Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at 12 noon in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. He had suffered for about five years from Alzheimer's disease. Gareld was born October 4, 1908, to Hans and Sadie (Maughn) Nelson in Weston, Idaho. He was one of seven children. He married his sweetheart, Ruby Sophia Rasmussen of Mink Creek, Idaho, on April 26, 1933. She preceded him in death on March 15, 1986. He was active in the LDS Church, serving in a bishopric and various auxiliaries of the church He also loved doing temple work and home teaching. Gareld worked as a machinist at the Naval Ordnance Plant, and as a salesman for Clark Sewing Machines. He played the bass fiddle in dance bands, enjoyed fishing, and taking long walks with his sweetheart. He is survived by his three children, Klyne (Karleen) Nelson, South Jordan, Utah, Ronnie (Claude) Cleveland, Pocatello, Idaho, Blaine (Linda) Nelson, Kaysville, Utah; one sister, Beth Peterson, Idaho Falls, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, November 11, 2000, at the Foothill Third Ward Chapel, 225 Oakwood Drive, with Bishop Glen Case officiating. She was born January 8, 1924, in Preston, Idaho, to Orin J. Alder and Wanda Katie Nye Gooch. She was raised and adopted by Wanda and Francis Muir Whitworth in Bancroft, Idaho. She married David Darwin Geddes April 17, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She graduated from North Gem High School in Bancroft, Idaho, in 1942, St. Luke's Hospital and nurses' training school in Boise, Idaho, in 1945. She graduated from BYU with a B.S. degree in 1952, and master's degree from BYU in 1962. She worked as a psychiatric nurse both at Oregon State Hospital and Utah State Hospital as well as other nursing positions. She was involved with organizing the College of Nursing at BYU, and was a school nurse at the American School in Teheran, Iran in 1960-61. She was active in the LDS Church, and fulfilled leadership positions in Relief Society and Young Women, and her favorite, a teacher in Primary. She is well loved for her caring and unselfish acts of kindness, and has been a choice example to all who knew her. She was also known for her knowledge and enthusiasm of sports, and loved the Jazz. She is survived by three brothers, Louis Alder (Sue), Corona, Calif., Eugene Whitworth (Gloria), Blackfoot, Idaho, John Whitworth (Marie), Longmont, Colo.; two sisters, Florence Manwaring (Van), Rexburg, Idaho, June Shappart, Pocatello, Idaho; two children, Lee Anne Hartman, Sandy, Utah, Dave Geddes (Lana), Chelsea, Indiana; two grandsons, Christopher Hartman (Kirsten Powell), Beaumont, Texas, Eric Paul Hartman (LDS mission in Caracas, Venezuela). She was born Feb. 26, 1914, to Maud Eakin and Samuel D. Hobbs. She was the second of four children. She lived in Downey until she was 8 years old then moved to a dry farm in Preston. She had a challenging childhood without a mother. She started school in Downey, graduating from high school in Preston, Idaho. Afton married R. Wendell Long on April 4, 1934, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They bought a farm in Cub River Canyon from Wendell's father and that is where they raised their eight children and enjoyed their retirement years. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has held various stake and ward positions. She had a beautiful soprano voice and loved to sing. She was the chorister for the "Singing Mothers" and ward chorister for many years. She also was the chorister for the Mapleton Ward Choir when it was first started. Her most recent calling was transition leader in the Relief Society. Each Young Woman entering Relief Society would receive a crocheted doll lovingly made by Afton. Every mother would also receive a new pair of crocheted booties for their brand new baby. Her love in life besides her dear companion and her family were music, porcelain dolls, all kinds of handiwork, her neighbors, and reunions with her loved ones which she is attending to now. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Wendell Long, Las Vegas, Nev.; children Roy C. (Barbara) Long, New Berry Park, Calif., S. Dee (LeeAnn) Long, Kearns, Utah, W. Clyne (Ann) Long, North Logan, Utah, LaRue (Devere) Burbank, Evelyn (Dennis) Dockstader, Gaylene (Keven) Stone, and Wendy (Doyle) Sears, Cub River, Idaho; 40 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One sister, Sharon Craig, Missoula, Mont., and one step-brother, Ralph Lundgreen, South Jordan, Utah, also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Gwen Thompson and Rose Evelyn Hobbs; a brother, Willis E. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Preston, Idaho. She was born Nov. 4, 1913, in Pella, Idaho, the daughter of John M. and Jessie V. Meyers. She married her sweetheart, Luther B. Boyd on May 27, 1934, and they made their home in Preston, Idaho, in beautiful Cache Valley. She is preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by a brother, John; and sisters, Shirley and Barbara. She is survived by her sisters, Vera (Dan) Howarth, Boise, Idaho, Lois Nash, Preston, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Sara Meyers, Buhl, Idaho; a brother-in-law, Charles R. Martin, Gold River, Calif.; and by many loving nieces and nephews. Elizabeth was a beautician and owned the original Preston Beauty Salon which she loved. Later she and her husband owned and operated the O.K. Tire Shop in Preston. She loved the outdoors and along with her husband was an avid hunter, who always got her limit and sometimes a little more. She was a passionate golfer and bridge player. She worked hard to make the Preston Golf Course a reality and was their first ladies president. She had a heart of gold, she always had time to visit, her meals were the "best" and she always wanted to feed you. She loved her family unconditionally and was always there when anyone needed help in any way. Her home was the focal point of many family gatherings and reunions. Thank you for the precious time and lasting memories you have given each of us. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. He served three years in the South Pacific and was a pilot in World War II with the Air Force and he later served in the Navy at sea on the Saratoga. He is survived by his wife, Ora, of Preston; by a step-son, Dwayne H. Winn, Boise, Idaho; by two step-daughters, Nancy (Mark) Tingey, Rexburg, Idaho, and Cindy Kirkbride, Preston, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
