He was born April 7, 1924, at Preston, Idaho, the son of Hans Jacob and Violet Ransom Roholt. He married Helen Joy Paskins July 1, 1950, at Grace, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. He had worked for M.K. Construction, also as a truck driver for Union Pacific Motor Freight and as a mechanic for Monsanto Company for 31 years, retiring in 1988. Verland was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Third Ward. He had served as YMMIA counselor, Sunday school superintendent, elders’ quorum president, second and first counselor in the bishopric, high priest group leader and as a home teacher. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9141. His hobbies included his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, fishing, boating and spending winters in Overton with good friends. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He is survived by his wife, of Soda Springs; and four daughters, Christine and Jim Irving, Creswell, Oregon, Karen and David Teipelke, Boise, Idaho, KaLynne and Brad Dahle, Clarkston, Utah, and Kim and Jeff Fetters, Soda Springs. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Decka Harris, Grace, Idaho, Yvonne Steinberg and Violet (Dixie) Meigs, both of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Joyce Fowler, Grace, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Roma VonWeller and Verda Weeks, also two brothers, Hans Jacob and Elwood Ransom Roholt. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October 22 at noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Ronald Myers officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening, Oct. 21 at the Sims Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Monday at the stake center from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery, with military graveside services. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.

He worked for construction companies. He later moved to Whitney and worked for the Jack Parsons Construction Company until he retired. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He is survived by two daughters and three sons: Caroline (Lynn) Jensen of Mink Creek, Idaho, Albert (Sally) Anderson of Libby, Mont., Melvin (Lorre) Anderson of Ogden, Utah, Pauline (Stan) Brown of Garland, Utah, and Ralph (Twila) Anderson of Lago, Idaho; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie of Preston, and Donna of Las Vegas, Nev. Selma returned back to her Heavenly Father on Sept. 16, 2001, surrounded by her loving family. She was the eighth child in a family of 15 children. She had seven brothers and seven sisters. She married William DeVerl Turner on March 6, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple by President Spencer W. Kimball, who was an apostle. They eventually settled in Logan and were blessed with three wonderful children, William Dee (DeAnn) Turner of Hyde Park, Utah, Kristen (Dean) Buhler of Hyde Park, Utah, and Janette (Rex) Case of Sandy, Utah. She had 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who were the joys of her life. Selma gave selflessly to all her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all those that knew her. Selma loved and lived the gospel. She served in many positions in the church. She served a mission in the eastern states, in which New York was the headquarters. Later in life, she served a mission at the Deseret Industries in Logan, Utah. Selma was employed at Keith O’Brien in Logan, where she met many of her friends. Family was very important to Selma. She was proud of the many accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She loved working in her yard, tending her flowers and visiting the sick. Selma was preceded in death by her husband, DeVerl; brothers, Les, Clyde, Joe, Frank, Walt and Chris; and sisters Frieda, Mena and Emma. She is survived by her sisters, Ruby Pond, Ida (Stan) Jorgensen, Bertha Anderson and Marie Oliverson; and one brother, Leo (Ondelyn) Mockli. She was born Oct. 15, 1910 in Moreland, Idaho a daughter to David and Ida Weiermann Wheeler. She attended school in Idaho. She married LaVon Buckley Chatterton in Moreland on Feb. 12, 1929. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on Feb. 12, 1930. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many auxiliaries in her earlier years. She was a homemaker and loving mother. She had worked at JC Pennys for several years. He and her husband resided in the Island area of Logan since 1943, raising their three children, Melbadean, Clyde and Carla. After LaVon passed away in 1982 she bought a motor home, driving it herself traveling the western states along with her daughter and son-in-law. After the death of her daughter she settled in Overton, Nev., where she meet and married Emerson Leavitt on her 80th birthday. Her last few months were spent in Logan at her sons home surrounded by her daughters and sons families enjoying her. She is survived by a son, Clyde and Sharlene Chatterton, Logan; a daughter, Carla and Paul Schulz, Paradise; son-in-law, David Croft, Overton, Nev., two brothers, Merle Wheeler, Jerome, Idaho; Bill Wheeler, Moreland, Idaho; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lavon, a daughter, Melbadean Daniels Croft, infant son, granddaughter, Genet Chatterton Lindley. He served in many positions in the church, including a two-year mission in Raleigh, N.C., He was active in scouting and earned the rank of Eagle. Jeremy enjoyed studying mathematics and, as a tutor, he had a special ability to explain it to others. He enjoyed camping, skiing and being with his family. The love of his life was his wife, Malinda, and their daughter, Jeralin. Lettie was active in the LDS Church service in leadership and teaching assignments all of her life. She served in the Stake Relief Society and MIA Presidents, and worked in the genealogy library for 25 years and as a temple worker for 25 years. She was a member of the LoPine DUP. She always kept a nice yard and garden. She made beautiful quilts. Lettie is survived by three daughters and one son and spouses, Corene (Kenneth) Woodward, Sacramento, Calif.; Clarice (John) Porter, Providence, Utah; Bonnie (Boyd) Buttars, Logan, Utah; and Jay (Marian) Condie, Grace, Idaho. She has 23 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She is the last of ten brothers and sisters. She married Earl Hymas Shumway on November 5, 1924, in the Logan LDS Temple. Thelma has been an avid quilter and has always kept a beautiful yard. She has also been an ardent genealogist, having taught and assisted many people with family history. She worked in the Logan Genealogy Library for 33 years. Thelma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active throughout her life. She served in many callings, and her favorite was teaching. She is survived by five children, Fern S. Porter, Franklin, Idaho; Mark Perry (Wilma) Shumway, Salt Lake City, Utah; Lorna S. (Dee) Wiser, Franklin, Idaho; Perry Earl (Joyce) Shumway, Brigham City, Utah; Wayne Perry (Sherrie) Shumway, Teasdale, Utah. Beverly Shumway, a daughter, is deceased. She has 24 grandchildren,74 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Thelma was loved and respected by all who knew her and cherished by her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. He had just celebrated his 86th birthday. He was born August 18, 1915, in Hyrum, Utah, to Jonas Verner and Luella Baer Nielsen. He graduated from South Cache High School. As a young man he helped build the Hyrum Dam. He served as a navigator in the 328th Army Air Force in World War II at Atu in the Aleutian Islands. He played the drums and coronet in dance bands and loved to dance. He married his eternal sweetheart, Ardell Nelson, on July 25, 1947. They were later sealed in the Logan, Utah temple on Feb. 8, 1950. They were sweethearts for 54 years. Keith was manager and part owner of the American Food Stores. He worked as a butcher at Valley Discount until a stroke disabled him 30 years ago. He was active in the LDS Church, where he was a high priest. He had served in two bishoprics. He was active in Scouting for many years, and on the Mutual stake board. He belonged to the American Legion, where he served as commander for many years. He was a charter member of the Monarch Lions and a charter member of the Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Preston Golf and Country Club, and helped with the initial construction of the golf course. He loved to golf, bowl, and camp with his family. He was a very proud, hard-working and independent man. His family was the most important thing in his life. He was always there for his family, whether it was to cheer them on in their successes, or to encourage them through tough times. He was a wonderful husband and father, and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Ardell, of Preston; two daughters and three sons, Sandy (Tyrone) Lewis, Millville, Utah, Pam (Phil) Zetterquist, Smithfield, Utah, Greg (LuAnn) Nielsen, Preston, Rick (Margie) Nielsen, Weston, Idaho, Michael (Becky) Nielsen, Hyde Park, Utah; 19 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Fauna (Boyd) Archibald, Blackfoot, Idaho; and a brother, Claire (Shirley) Nielsen, Ogden, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a sister, Faye Anderson, and a brother, Doyle Nielsen. He graduated from Utah State University and received his master’s in education from BYU. He married his eternal sweetheart on June 3, 1952, in the Logan LDS Temple. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was Chaplain in the Utah/Arizona National Guard for many years. Garth was an avid scouter having received the Silver Beaver Award and served on the state board for Woodbadge. He taught in the LDS Church Educational System in Seminary/Institute for 36 years, impacting countless lives and shepherding many. He ended his career as an institute director at the University of Hawaii after 25 years at Snow College. He dedicated his life to service in the LDS Church. Garth served as Manti Temple President from 1991 to 1994. He served in other numerous callings including: bishop, counselor in a stake presidency, and was currently serving as High Priest group leader. He and his wife served a mission in Hannibal, Mo. He enjoyed nature, camping with his family, ice skating, traveling with his wife and attending grandchildren’s activities. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Ephraim, Utah; nine children, Dennis (Melonie) Monson, Orem, Utah, Bruce (Marilyn) Monson, Hyde Park, Utah, Darlynn (Terry) Menlove, Spanish Fork, Utah, Jerry Monson, Salt Lake City, Paul (Leslie) Monson, Cedar Hills, Ore., Richard (Mary Ann) Monson, West Jordan, Utah, David Monson, Sandy, Utah, Shauna (Gerald) Wayman, Ephraim, Utah, Annette Monson, Pleasant Grove, Utah; five sisters, Deane Edwards; Mada Larsen; Connie Rawlings, all of Preston, Idaho, Barbara Rinderknecht, Providence, Utah, Cleone Jones, Rexburg, Idaho; brother, Dale Monson, St. George, Utah; 33 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in the Ephraim 3rd Ward LDS Chapel (400 E. He was born March 3, 1915, in Preston, Franklin, Idaho, a son of William and Reta Smith Hobbs. He grew up and was educated in Preston and Malad, and was a graduate of Malad High School. He married Jennie Williams on July 14, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. "Dick" spent 42 years with the J.C. Penney Company, where he managed stores in Idaho, Wyoming and Utah, retiring in Logan. He also served in many civic and service organizations during his business career. He was an avid "Aggie" fan for many years, and also enjoyed the game of golf, a love which he passed on to his grandsons. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he had served in various callings. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jennie Hobbs, of Salt Lake City; one daughter, Kathleen (Herm) Nevenner of Salt Lake City; two sons, Richard James (Molly) Hobbs of Santa Barbara, California, Jack (Nancy) Hobbs of Salt Lake City; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Jerrie) Kelly of Brigham City, Utah, and Dean (Darlene) Kelly of Yuba City, California; one sister, Ann, of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. A special appreciation to the staff at the Highland Cove Care Center for their loving care of our father. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 20, 2001, at noon in the Malad LDS Third Ward Chapel, 400 N. 200 W. She was born in Preston, Franklin, Idaho, on Nov. 4, 1911, to Frank Taft and Elizabeth Greaves Eames Benson. She was preceded in death by her husband, three of her sisters, an infant brother and her twin brother. Her last living sister, Zenda Mabey, resides in Salt Lake City, Utah. Carmen married Robert Moss Lewis on Sept. 13, 1936. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple. They had six children: Ann (Carvel, deceased) Stephenson, North Hollywood, California, Colleen (Warren) Wilde, Preston, Idaho, Robert M. (Renae) Lewis, Arvada, Colorado, H. Benson (Julie) Lewis, Sandy, Utah, Lynne (Steve) Cherrington, Orem, Utah, Beth (Bud) Alford, Idaho Falls, Idaho; 30 grandchildren, 34 great- grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Carmen lived her life in Cache Valley except for two years while she attended Brigham Young University. She and Moss lived their entire married lives on their farm in Riverdale. Carmen's great love and focus in life was her family. Her greatest satisfaction was in seeing them succeed. We will miss her wit, grit, and her special love for each of us. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where among other things, she taught Primary for 25 years and Young Women for many years. The family wishes to express appreciation to the caregivers at the Franklin County Nursing Home for their kindness and diligence in providing for her care. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, in the Riverdale Ward Chapel, with Bishop Sam Smith conducting. Idaho Press-Tribune, 08/10/01 Joseph Henry Crossley, 90, of Nampa passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at his son’s residence. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2001 at 10 a.m. at the 13th Ward LDS Chapel, 504 11th Ave. N., Nampa. Interment will be in Preston, Idaho on Monday. Arrangements are under the direction of Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, 404 10th Ave. So., Nampa, ID 83651. Joseph was born April 14, 1911 in Thatcher, Idaho to William Henry and Pauline Wanner Crossley. Joe was one of eight children, Anne, Albert, Virgil, Richard and Chester and two sisters who died in infancy. Joe lived in Preston, Idaho and moved to Ogden, Utah when he was very young. In his adult life he lived in many places including California, Washington, and Idaho. He worked for Idaho Concrete and in the shipyards in Seattle and as a farmer. He has lived in this valley off and on since 1936. When he was younger, Joe enjoyed racing cars and working on them and on his Studebakers. The last few years he enjoyed watching old Westerns on TV and visiting with friends and family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters and two wives. He is survived by his five children, Gladys Stapleton of Pocatello, Delbert and wife Velma of Nampa, William and wife Rozelyn of Junction City, Ore., James and wife Kathy of Middleton and Cody of Cottonwood, Idaho.
