'Dee' Dixon Anderson, died January 29, 2002 after a long illness at the Gooding Rehab and Living Center in Gooding, Idaho. Dee was 83 at the time of his death. He lived a very full, active, wonderful life with family and community. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2nd at Summers Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel in Mt. Home, with graveside services to follow at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Glenns Ferry. Dee was born October 18, 1918 at Benida, in Franklin County, Idaho, the youngest child of Lorenzo and Etta Dixon Anderson. He was raised in the Preston area, working with his brothers, Verm and Glenn, and sister LaRue in their businesses in Rupert and Burley following graduation from Preston High School. It was while working in Burley that Dee met his wife of 56 years, Virginia Brevick Anderson. Dee and Virginia relocated to the Wood River Valley in 1951 and ranched in the area for several years, before arriving in! Glenns Ferry in 1957. Dee bought and managed the Ernest Eichols Ranch for many years, along with other farms in the area. Dee retired from ranching in 1984. Dee was active in community events and organizations including being a founding member of the Three Island Riding Club, and a long time supporter of area 4-H clubs. Dee served several years with the King Hill Irrigation District Board, and was a member of the Elk's Lodge in Mountain Home. Dee was a loving father and kind hearted man, always willing to lend a hand to a friend or neighbor in need. Dee is survived by his wife, Virginia; his daughter, Karen Barber, Houston, Texas, daughter, Lenora and son-in-law, Michael Herndon, Qunicy, Calif., daughter, Christine Anderson (Pfister), Boise, Idaho, daughter, Teresa and son-in-law, Don Jarvis, Laramie, Wyo., and his son, Dean Anderson and daughter-in-law, Christine, Ft. Worth, Texas. Grandchildren include Mallory Barber, Emily and Michael B. Herndon, Airman 1st Class Scott P! fister and Brian Pfister, Nicole and Katie Anderson, and Charlie Jarvis. She was born March 16, 1929 in Preston, Idaho, the daughter of Edward and Serena Bergquist. Eleise was the 8th of 11 children. She graduated from high school in Preston and attended Brigham Young University where she met her husband, Mearle Smith. They were married March 5, 1952 in the Logan Temple. They will be celebrating their 50th anniversary next month. Eleise is the mother of eight children: Jeff Smith (Mary), Stephanie Smith, Brian Smith (Jan), Marilynn Howard (Tom), Julie Smith, Craig Smith (Suzanne), Leslie Smith, and Gary Smith (Sara). She is survived by 21 grandchildren and by her brothers and sister: Jesse Bergquist, Leon Bergquist (Lucille), Ralph Bergquist (Cathy), Keith Bergquist (Phyllis), June Gailey (Gordon), Max Bergquist (Clarice), and Gordon Bergquist (Kathi). Her early married years were devoted to raising her children and serving in the Church. She was an avid gardener and cook, and shared her talents with everyone she met. She also loved to travel and meet new people. Eleise loved the Gospel. Her life was centered around her family and friends. She always thought of others first and touched every life she met. Eleise was a very loving and caring person and will be missed by everyone who knew her. She worked as a librarian for many years for Lehi City and Sego Lily Elementary. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served two LDS missions with her husband. The first in the Provo-Utah Mission and the second in the Scotland-Edinburgh Mission. She was an ordinance worker at the Provo and Mount Timpanogos Temples. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, and her daughter Julie Ann. Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 at the Lehi East Stake Center (1200 E. 900 No.) at 11:30 a.m. A viewing will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main, Lehi, from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday morning at the Church from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, the Harmony Hospice, Dr. Dickinson, Dr. Frame and their colleagues.

She was the fourth of six children born to Wilmer C. and Isabel Grow Jensen in Huntsville, Utah, April 1, 1923. She attended school in Huntsville and Ogden, Utah, graduating from Weber High School in 1942. She had also attended Weber College and the Ogden Business College. She had worked as a receptionist for the Weber County Commission and as a Reserve Librarian at Weber College. Dorothy was married to Haroldean Gayman Sept. 5, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by President David O. McKay. They moved to Preston, Idaho, after their marriage where she became a homemaker and long-time secretary at Utah Power and Light Company. Active in the church for most of her life, she taught in the Sunday School and Primary from age 16 to age 60. She was secretary to three bishops in the Preston 7th Ward doing correspondence, publishing the weekly bulletins and preparing pamphlets for ward members. She and Harold served on the Genealogy Committee doing research on family and serving as examiners of the four-generation sheets for many years. She had been a visiting teacher most of her adult life. Dorothy enjoyed working in the community, an active member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers and a Pink Lady at the Franklin County Care Center, organizing birthday parties for residents. Harold died Jan. 12, 1988, in Preston. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Keith Jensen and Douglas Jensen. Surviving are sisters, Beth (William) Gibson of San Antonio, Texas; Joan (Dwayne) Pace of Wanship, Utah; and Kathryn (Richard) Ensign of Huntsville; and 16 nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Larkin and Sons Mortuary. Friends are invited to visit with the family Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow at the Franklin, Idaho, Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions to your chapter of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers are suggested.

He was born June 22, 1907, in Hayden, Idaho to Christian Elias and Annie Hansen Jorgensen. He was the fourth child born in a family of ten children. He resided most of his life in Idaho and Utah. His father passed away leaving his mother with six young children to raise. Al took a lot of responsibility and was a great help to his mother in raising the family. He was in the U.S. National Guard Calvary from 1925-28. He worked for the railroad. He also worked as a cook, cab and bus driver, and as a painter on his own and at Hill Air Force Base. He enjoyed carpentry work, painting and hunting. He married Patricia Ann Lorenzo on Jan. 20, 1938. She passed away in 1947. He married Reeta Cunningham Hansen on Oct. 2, 1949. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Reeta passed away on Dec. 7, 1982. They had one son, Duane. He married Marintha Covert on Jan. 12, 1984. They lived in Ogden, Utah, and Cleveland, Idaho, where he resided at the time of his death. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was very kind, humble, hardworking, funny, forgiving, and thoughtful, and he always put others before himself. He is survived by his wife, Marintha, of Cleveland, Idaho; his son, Duane Jorgensen, Ogden, Utah; by two granddaughters, Amanda Jorgensen, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Rochelle (Ron) Nistler, Ogden, Utah; sisters, Carrie Lee, Ogden, Utah; and Gay Scothern, Layton, Utah; stepchildren, Jerry (Nena) Hansen, Robinson, Wyoming; Nadine Benedict, Kaysville, Utah; Faye Orr, Garland, Utah; Theo (Sonjia) Covert, Preston, Idaho; Marlane (Gus) Nance, Cleveland, Idaho; Edwin Covert, Shelley, Idaho; Gaylin (Lynda) Covert, Victorville, California; Mark (Deb) Covert, Cleveland, Idaho; twenty-three step grandchildren, and by many great grandchildren. She was born in Mapleton, Idaho, on June 16, 1902, to Harris Archibald and Sophronia Bennett Stephenson. She was a lifetime resident of the Preston area. Her parents had filed a homestead claim in Cub River Canyon prior to 1900 and Cassie was born in their first home, a small log house typical of that “pioneer” period. She was the third child and first daughter in a very close-knit family which expanded to include 13 children. When Cassie was 15 years old, her parents moved to Preston principally because they wanted their children to go to Oneida Stake Academy. She graduated from high school and then took a summer course at what is now Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, to qualify for a primary school teaching certificate. Many years later, she graduated with a BS degree from Utah State University in Logan, Utah. She and Asael E. Bell were married May 16, 1923, in the Logan LDS Temple. They had a three-day honeymoon in Salt Lake City, Utah, before Asael left on a two-year LDS Mission to Germany. Cassie taught school in Mink Creek, Idaho, while he was away. After Asael’s return in 1925, they both taught for two years in a two-room log school near McCammon, Idaho. Cassie then retired to raise their family and did not return to teaching until she was “drafted” during World War II, retiring finally about 1962. All her life, she remained very active in the church and community. She was a wonderful mother to her three children and their families, a surrogate mother for her younger siblings when their mother died at age 51 in 1930, and was a very caring neighbor and friend. She and Asael were named as “Outstanding Citizens” of Preston when they were in their eighties. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Beula and Edwin Hinckley, Provo, Utah; Evan and Lois Bell, Ontario, Canada; and Max and Jean Bell, Chicago, Illinois and Pacific Grove, California; and by grandchildren, Ann, Scott, Craig, Kevin, Erin, Diane and Colleen; and by 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Janice (Maynard) Andreason, Layton, Utah; Iris Erickson, North Ogden, Utah; and by one brother, Allen (Florine) Stephenson, Boise, Idaho. Preceding her in death were her husband, Asael, her parents, brothers, Guy, Loran, Kenneth, Carvel and Harry, and sisters, RaMona, Alta, Sophronia and Ada. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. State Street, with Brother Blayne Rounds conducting. She was a precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was surrounded by her loved ones throughout her final week before her death. Born August 15, 1916 in Franklin, Idaho, the daughter of Hugh Sloan and Ethel May Durrant. She was raised and attended school in Ogden, Utah. Married Myron C. Gale in the Logan LDS Temple and made their first home in Ogden. They later moved to Park City, Heber City and finally to Midway. They later divorced. LaVern maintained her home in Midway while attending nursing school in Provo. She became an L.P.N. in 1960, and practiced her profession as a nurse and as an inhalation therapist in the Heber City and University of Utah Hospitals for the next 16 years. She then married Lloyd Lawton on Feb. 21, 1971. They shared many wonderful trips through the states, and spent many winters in Overton, Nevada. They enjoyed fishing and entertaining at the Senior Center - a very active couple who loved life. LaVern was a member of the Midway Boosters Club, the Utah Highway Patrol Auxiliary, and the Garden Club. She enjoyed many crafts and oil painting. She is preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, Boyd and Stewart Sloan; two sisters, Thelma Sloan Dinsdale and Wanda Sloan Christiansen; and four infant grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Jane (Freaman) Churchfield of Ivans; Peggy (Joe) Giles of Heber; and Tamara (Paul) Allman of Lehi; son, Michael S. (Cheryl) Gale of Sanders, AZ; 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Also, many step-grand and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Until we meet again. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, 12 Noon at Olpin-Hoopes Funeral Home, 288 N. She endured many years of pain as a result of numerous health conditions. She was born May 24, 1924 in Franklin, Idaho to Abraham E. Bowcut and Pearl G. Bowcut. Although, she enjoyed working for many years in the accounts payable department for the Salt Lake City Suburban Sanitary District her main focus was her family. Very seldom did a day pass that was not filled with conversations to brothers and sisters, as she was always concerned about each of them and their families. She loved spending time with each of them at the monthly family outings. She enjoyed boating at Lake Powell, hunting trips to Uintah Mountains, attending musical performances and endless shopping with her sister Grace. For many years she was a caregiver to Gordon in his time of need, however as her health deteriorated she was the recipient of many years of devoted and faithful care by her loving husband. She always put her family first and was truly a very generous and caring person. She loved to be with her sons and their families, participate in school and church activit! ies and family vacations. Elaine leaves a grateful husband, family and friends with many precious memories. We are all blessed by having spent this time with you. My true love I will miss you dearly. Survived by husband of 52 years Neil G. Kessler; sons Michael G. (Suzanne) Kessler, Scott B. Haworth was born in Franklin, Idaho, on April 10, 1910 to Thomas Henry and Blenda (Johnson) Haworth. He lived in Othello for 27 years. Horace grew up on the family farm in Franklin, Idaho, which was homesteaded by his grandfather in 1861. He married Ruby Alice Evans on Aug. 11, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They farmed and raised horses, cows and chickens until 1974. They moved to Othello, Wash., at that time and worked for Umapine Chemical Company until he retired in 1980. Horace loved to hunt and travel. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play ball and also enjoyed when they performed in music and other talents. He especially loved spending time with his wife. He was a kind and loving man and he will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Ruby; three sons, Robert and wife Henriette Haworth, Franklin, Idaho, David and wife Doris Haworth, Ogden, Utah, Thomas and wife Debbie Haworth, Othello, Wash.; one daughter, Alice and husband John Parker, Challis, Idaho; one sister, Elna Robins, Burley, Idaho; 20 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, one sister and two granddaughters preceded him in death. Viewing and visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Stevens Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held in Othello on Monday at 11 a.m. at the 7th Avenue Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Art Dorval officiating. Additional funeral services will be Thursday at noon in the Franklin Stake Center. She was born June 29, 1909, in Randolph, Utah, to Andrew Gray and Klea Grant Muir. Venna was the second of eight children. Venna spent her early years living on a ranch in Randolph. The family then moved to Kemmerer, Wyoming, when she was 12 years old. She graduated from high school while living in Kemmerer. By this time in her life Venna had become an excellent seamstress. She made her own clothes and loved sewing for her younger sister. Her first job was making hats in a milliner shop. She had a peculiar laugh and always said she was glad to be remembered by a laugh and not a frown. The family moved in 1927 to Ogden, Utah, where she would meet her future husband in 1928 at a dance. Venna loved to dance. Venna married Willard Davis on April 18, 1929. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple. Two children were born to this union, Keith and Elaine. During the depression years Venna accompanied her husband as they went on the road repairing sewing machines. They eventually moved to Sacramento, California, where Venna continued working as a seamstress. She enjoyed activity in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Primary and Sunday School organizations. After another move to Ogden, Utah, they made their final move to the Salt Lake Valley. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1947. Venna continued to sew dresses to provide income for her family. One evening she went to the Rainbow Rendezvous, where she would meet her new sweetheart, Harold Smart. They were married on September 14, 1951. Harold, a widower, also had two children, Nola and Wayne, and so these two families were combined into one loving group. Harold and Venna were later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Venna discovered a love of genealogy and spent countless hours doing research on both family lines. She was also involved in the church’s name extraction program, which she really enjoyed. In 1991 Venna and Harold moved to Clifton, Idaho, to be nearer to all four children, who had by then made Idaho their homes. Venna continued her work in genealogy and joined the Harold B. Lee Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. In October 1985 her sweetheart Harold died. Seven years later, she made another move to Victor, Idaho, to live by her son, Keith. Her next and final move, would be to Pocatello, Idaho, in the fall of 1997. She spent her final years at the Highland Hills Assisted Care Facility, where she made many special friends and became a favorite with the staff. The family is very grateful to them for their loving care. Many thanks also to two special granddaughters, Cathie and Casie, for caring for grandma these past years. Venna leaves behind a posterity numbering 86, who loved her and learned countless things from the examples she left behind. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Keith ( Claudia) Davis, Victor, Idaho; Elaine (Cornelius) Hofman, Pocatello, Idaho; Nola (Gary) Garner and Wayne (Carolyn) Smart, Clifton, Idaho; 18 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great- grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, one sister and one sister-in-law, Homer (Betty) Gray, Salt Lake City, Utah; Heber (Helen) Gray, Lake Havasu, Arizona; DeLora (Ray) Garrett, Salt Lake City, Utah; Norma Gray, Layton, Utah. Venna was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a grandson, David Garner; three brothers, Andrew Devere (Dee), Dayle and Thayle Gray; and a baby sister. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at the Clifton Second Ward chapel, located at 170 West 1st North in Clifton,Idaho. There will be a viewing that morning from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. interment will be in the Clifton Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.

Reviewed research proposals for Federal government agencies in Washington DC. Served on the Utah Blue Ribbon Energy Panel, chairman of Utah Ed. ! Res. Comm., member of many academic committees. Fulfilled Stake Missions for LDS Church, ordained temple worker at the Jordan River Temple and held many stake and ward positions including high councilman. Enjoyed national and international travel, golf, fishing, spectator sports and was an avid jogger and swimmer, and a BYU fan! Survivors: wife, Thelma, SLC; two daughters, Susan Lambert, Mrs. Keith D. (Patricia) Tintle; 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Services will be Tues. Jan 22, 2002, 12 noon, Cottonwood Heights 1st Ward Chapel, 7075 S. 2250 E. Aliene was born in Lewiston, Utah, on July 31, 1920, to Clarence Ellis and Zelnora Glover Layne. She grew up in Lewiston, where she attended schools and graduated from North Cache High School. She married Fred Andrew Jensen on June 18, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Fred and Aliene made their home in Mountain Home, Utah, where they lived and worked on the farm their entire lives and enjoyed their family and friends. She served in numerous church positions including the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary. After losing her husband in 1999, Aliene found it difficult to live alone and moved to the Beehive House in Logan, Utah. She later moved to The Golden Living Center in Orem to be closer to her children. She is survived by a son, Sidney (Cynthia) Layne, Midway, Utah; and two daughters, Kathryn (Craig) Anderson, Salt Lake City; and Diane (Hugh, deceased) Wilson, Payson, Utah; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond Layne. Her husband Fred and two sons, Craig Fred and Tracy Charles, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Services will be held on at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, in the Cove Chapel. She was born Sept. 1, 1910, in Lewiston, Utah, to Samuel Frost Wiser and Rebecca Ann Telford. She had three sisters and five brothers who preceded her in death. She married Lowell C. Titensor in the Logan LDS Temple and he passed away Oct. 11, 1997. They were parents of one son and three daughters: Kay (Kaye) Titensor, Preston, Idaho; Valerie (Neil, deceased) Karren, Las Vegas, Nev.; Helen Lawrence, Burbank, Wash.; and Carolyn (Larry) McKnight, Lewiston. They had 15 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. They lived in Cove, Utah, Lewiston, Preston and spent their retirement winters in Mesa, Ariz. Marge was a faithful member and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many positions in the various auxiliaries. She was kind and caring to all who knew her. She made many things for her children and grandchildren using her sewing skills. She was blessed with a natural talent to play the piano and was still able to play through the last years of her life. She had a quick wit and sense of humor and loved to tell stories. A special thanks to all the people who helped care for our mother at the Heritage Home and the Downey Care Center. We so appreciate your love and kindness to her. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, in the Preston 1st Ward Chapel, 213 S. 200 East. There will be a viewing that morning from 10 a.m. to noon at the church house. Interment will be in the Richmond City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary. Stan attended schools in Preston, Idaho, graduating from Preston High School with the class of 1974. He married his lifelong love, Teresa Ruby Young, on Nov. 5, 1982, in Jackson, Wyo., surrounded by family and friends. They were blessed with three wonderful boys, Nathan, Scott and Spencer. They were the light of his life. Stan enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and four-wheeling with his family and friends. He was employed as a relief operator with Texas Gulf since September 1976 and, most recently, FMC for the last two and a half years. Stan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife, Teresa, Green River; three sons, Nathan, Scott and Spencer, all of Green River; one daughter, Selena Marie and grandson, Braxton, Salt Lake City, Utah; his mother and father, Jack and Karma Garrett, Preston; two sisters: Laura Peterson and husband, Brett, Smithfield, Utah; and Bonnie Taylor and husband, Rob, Carson City, Nev.; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one brother-in-law, Lyle Greene. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at the Green River LDS 1st Ward chapel, 1000 W. 4 North, Green River. Friends called at the chapel Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment will take place Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at 11:30 a.m. in the Whitney Cemetery, Whitney, Idaho.
