GEORGE, UT - W. Harold Handley, 94, died Friday, March 8, 2002, in St. George, UT. He was born Nov. 20, 1907 in Salt Lake City, UT to George Alfred and May Ferrell Handley. He mar-ried Elaine Pax-man Aug. 20, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died April 5, 1992 preceding him in death. He married Marjory Forsgren Hart Dec 17, 1992 in the St. George LDS Temple and they were sealed April 1, 1993. His long career in education took him to positions, first in Oxford and then in Preston, ID; the head of the business department at the Weber College in Ogden, UT. He then went on to Salt Lake where he was the student counselor at Cyprus and Olympus High School and then the principal of the Olympus High School. Just prior to his retirement he was director of the secondary education of the Granite School District. He earned both his Masters and Doctorate Degrees of Education from Stanford University. He was respected and loved by his associates and students throughout his education career. He was an avid fisherman, liked golf, traveling and was always interested in learning. He served faithfully in his LDS Church callings. He was active in Scouting for many years in Idaho and Utah; on the MIA General Board and served as bishop of the Ogden 23rd Ward while in Ogden. He served in Salt Lake, as a high counselor and president of the Stake Sunday School in the Hillside Stake; bishop of the Mountain View 3rd Ward; served in the bishopric for the Salt Lake County Jail; Temple Square guide; Salt Lake Temple veil worker; guide at Pioneer Village at Lagoon; helped in what was formerly known as the Sr. Aaronic program where he was instrumental in reactivating many fine families. He was a dedicated home teacher. Was honored in the Salt Lake Tribune in 1992 for his service to the widows and neighbors in his area. In St. George, he was a home teacher, Ward Temple coordinator and president of the Gospel Doctrine Class. He is survived by his wife; daughter, LoRie (Doug) Thomsen; and son, Lawrence Harold (Jan); nieces and nephews; 26 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents; brothers, Kenneth, Vern, Irving, Floyd; and sister, Evelyn Adolphson. Services will be Wed. March 13, 2002, 12 noon, Bloomington 7th Ward LDS Chapel, 3371 Mulberry Dr. There will be a visitation Tues. March 12, 6-8 p.m., Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd, and one hour prior to services at the chapel. Services will also be Fri. March 15, 2002, 12 noon, Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, Salt Lake City, UT and a visitation 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Cemetery. He was born July 14, 1913 at Preston, Idaho to William H. and Edna Carson Twitchell. His early years were spent ranching at Mt. Putnum until 1935. After graduating from Blackfoot High School, Wendell attended Idaho State Southern Branch and went on to graduate from Utah State in 1938. He married Ruth Caine of Logan, Utah December 14, 1939. She preceded him in death March 11, 1973. Wendell served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Wendell returned to the Idaho Fish and Game Department for a 36 year career, retiring in 1975. He married Wanda Hunter of Soda Springs in 1975. She preceded him in death November 2000. He enjoyed 27 years of hunting fishing, horse races, attending ISU Sports activities and having coffee with his Elks Club friends at the Elks Club in the mornings. Wendell was inducted into the ISU Hall of Fame in 1982. He was a past president of the Idaho Peace Officers Association, a member of the Elks Club, a member of the ISU Bengal Foundation and the selections committee for the Sports Hall of Fame. Wendell is survived by: 2 brothers, Clyde Twitchell of Shelley, Bill (Jane) Twitchell of Salt Lake City; 2 daughters, Karen Halford of Rigby and Kathy (Robert) Hoffman of New Jersey; 6 grandchildren; Kent (Paula) Halford of Idaho Falls, Kevin (Nicole) Halford of Rexburg, Trent (Kristi) Halford of Salt Lake City, Tammi (Jeff) Travis of Colorado, Brian Hoffman of Maryland and, Kristina Hoffman of Colorado; 9 great grandchildren. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. in the Henderson-Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery, Blackfoot with Military Graveside Rites. She worked at Del Monte in the campaigns each year. She was active in the LDS church as a Sunday school teacher, visiting teacher, young women's program and sang in the ward choir. She enjoyed gardening, crochet, sewing, canning and embroidery. She was a hard worker and had great love for her family. She is survived by two daughters Marjorie Christensen, Richmond, Utah, Watonna Corkins, Phoenix, Arizona, seven grandchildren, Kent Christensen, North Ogden, Kirt Christensen, Stacy Christensen, both Richmond, Ronald C. Bingham, Preston, Cinda Hobbs, Kristen Morrison, both Franklin, Brian Bingham, Preston. Also surviving are 28 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren, one brother, Leo Mockli, and three sisters, Bertha Anderson, Ida Jorgenson, both Salt Lake City, and Ruby Pond, Smithfield. She is preceded in death by grandson, Jon Christensen, parents, brothers and sisters Frieda Mockli, Waldo Mockli, Selma Turner, Christian Mockli, Leslie Mockli, Frank Mockli, Clyde Mockli, Mena Brown, Joseph Mockli and Emma Moore. Norine Sears Alder Greaves returned home to her Heavenly Father and those she loved who went on before. She was born April 3, 1910 in Farmington, Utah, later moving to Clifton, Idaho with parents. Florence Evangeline Rollins and Parley Alvin Sears. Norine was one of nine children. Norine married Charles Lewis Alder on July 29, 1929 in Rigby, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan temple. Norine and Lewis raised six children in the years they lived in Whitney, Idaho: LuRene (Dee) Walmsley, San Jose, Calif.; Richard (Jackie) Alder, Oakland, Calif.; Joan (Larry) Dahle, Preston; Charles Reese (Karrol) Alder, Dingle, Idaho; Douglas (Jean) Alder, Ogden, Utah; and Kevin (Nancy) Alder, Orem, Utah. They later moved to Preston. Lewis Alder died on August 9, 1972. On August 21, 1982, Norine married Donald Kid Greaves and they continued to live in Preston until Don’s death on August 18, 1996. Norine was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Through the years, she held positions of responsibility and served her family and community all of her life. Norine embraced simplicity, hospitality, frugality and integrity, and her actions reflected her commitment to these virtues. All who know Norine delighted in her sense of fun. Her gift for raising flowers was evident in each home in which she lived. Her home was always open to family and friends and was a gathering place for her children and grandchildren. Norine worked as a cashier at J.C. Penney in Preston, at Deseret Industries and at Don Greaves’s Central Market. She was a devoted member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Norine loved playing kickball and bingo and “just visiting”. She had a gift for needlework, and blessed those she loved with many afghans, quilts, hand-hooked rugs, and wall hangings. Norine played piano for a dance band for many years. Her enjoyment of the music of Lawrence Welk and of the Utah Jazz lasted until the end of her days. Norine’s greatest joy came from keeping up with all the doings of her family. Her 90th birthday was celebrated at the Franklin County nursing home with all of her children and many friends and extended family in attendance. She made many friends among the staff and volunteers at the nursing home where she lived for exactly three years to the day. They cared for her with tenderness and skill. Norine and her family appreciate the gentle care ! they extended. Norine is survived by all of her children, 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, as well as her sister, Georgiana Mott and brother Blaine (Arlene)Sears. Also surviving are two stepchildren, Nancy Woodward and Bill Greaves. She goes on to join her dear sisters and brothers, Wanda Allen, Florence Austin, and Lester, Dean, Shelly and Kay Sears. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 in the Seventh Ward Chapel, 155 North, 2nd West, Preston. He was born April 29, 1917 in Hyde Park, Utah, to George David and Julia Webber Balls, the ninth of twelve children. He spent his early childhood helping with the family farm in Cache Valley, Utah. At age 11, he moved with his family to Dayton, Idaho. He graduated from Preston High School in 1936, where he participated in football, track and wrestling. He was also a graduate of seminary. Upon his graduation from high school he met the love of his life, Melba Maisey and they began their courtship. In 1940, he moved to Pocatello to attend Links School of Business where he studied accounting. In August of 1942, he began working at the Army Air Base in Pocatello as an Engineer’s Aide where he was able to apply his accounting skills while assisting to build the runway at what is now known as the Pocatello Airport and later transferred to the Quartermaster’s Corp in the supply department. In January of 1945, he transferred to the Naval Ordinance Plant where he achieved the title of Ordinanceman 1st class. He continued in this position until 1952. On February 28, 1945, Clarence and Melba were married in Logan, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on December 19, 1951. Together they raised five children. In 1952, Clarence began working as an office manager and bookkeeper for Chief Sales and Service, doing work in the gas and oil business. In January of 1954, he started his own business, which became Clarence’s Mobil Service. This continued until September of 1967. At this time, he became Building Superintendent at the Idaho State University LDS Institute of Religion, which he considered to be the best, and most rewarding job he ever had. He greatly enjoyed being in the presence of the college students and returned missionaries. While there he took Institute classes and developed close relationships with his instructors. He graduated from the Institute and was also the main speaker at the graduation ceremony. Many believed his speech was the best they had ever heard. He was highly regarded at the Institute and participated in many activities for many years. He especially treasured the retreats he made with the officers and faculty to Jackson Hole and Sun Valley. In 1982, upon his retirement, he was rewarded by a trip to Egypt and the Holy Land. Some of their most cherished memories were of washing their hands in the Jordan River and visiting the tomb of Jesus. He also visited the Egyptian Pyramids where his picture was taken riding a camel, after which his family knew him as Clarence of Arabia. He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He held several positions in the Church, which included Ward Clerk, Athletic Director, Coach, High Counselor, Elder’s Quorum Presidency, YMMIA Stake Secretary and the President of Sunday School in different wards. He also sang in the church choir. He and Melba were also called to serve two full-time missions for the Church. The first was in Kentucky and the second the family history mission in Salt Lake City. He officiated in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for many years. He immensely enjoyed all of the experiences that the Church provided for him over his lifetime. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and golfing. He also loved cars and traveling with family and friends. He took great pleasure in playing his harmonica for various family and church functions. For the last several years, he has been a member of the Silver Chords, a local senior citizens musical group. Clarence was a very kind, caring and compassionate person who had a very gentle way about him. He always made others feel comfortable around him. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. He is survived by his wife, Melba of 57 years; five children, Claudia McLain (although she passed away on March 8th), Laura Lee Littlefield, David (Shawna) Balls, Daniel (Denise) Balls and Kenneth (Ellen) Balls, all of Pocatello, 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Wanda Frandsen of Sandy, Utah and a brother, Kendall (Jean) Balls of Logan Utah. He was proceeded in death by both his parents, 7 brothers and 2 sisters. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2002, at the Alameda 2nd Ward Chapel at Jefferson and Walnut in Pocatello with Bishop Darrell Haskel officiating. The family will receive friends at the Colonial Funeral Home, on Sunday, March 10, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m. and also at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Jorgensen on December 15, 1932 in the Logan LDS Temple. He preceded her in death May 7, 1993. Margaret was a member of the LDS 29th Ward. She was a Primary and Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. She was also active in the Relief Society and was a Relief Society Visiting Teacher. Margaret was an excellent seamstress and cook. Her family was very special to her, and she loved spending time with them. She is survived by three daughters; Marjane (Roy) Vaughn, LuDean (Don) Jackman, and Carolyn (Jerel) Olson, all of Ogden; ten grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great great-daughter. He spent his early years in the farming community of Preston, Idaho. His family relocated to Ogden when he was 12. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1947, graduated from Weber State College with an Associate of Science degree in 1949, graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees in 1953. He later completed his doctorate requirements from the University of Utah in Education Administration in 1958. He taught in the Davis, and Weber school districts and worked in education administration during most of his career in Utah. He moved to Long Beach, California where he took a position as Director of Education at Long Beach City College. He loved working with people and in the education profession, touching thousands of students during his thirty-two years as an educator. He often said, "teaching never seemed like work because it is something I just enjoy." He loved his neighbors and they took care of him like he was their father. He was an active member of the LDS church and he held several church positions during his lifetime. He often said, "it is not your position in life but what you can do for those close to you that counts." In his younger years he was an outstanding athlete, lettering in football, track and boxing at Ogden High School and Utah State University. He married Norma Wright in 1950 and later divorced. He married Sally Bunderson in 1971 and later divorced. He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years Joyce Coburn. They were sealed in September of 1999 in the Bountiful LDS Temple. He is also survived by two sisters Donna (Alton) Winger, Connie (Carl) Maughn, six children, Mitchel (Rena), Salt Lake City; Jon (Marilyn), Layton; James (Mary), South Ogden; Nancy (Todd) Howard, Riverdale; Nathan (Malinda) Roy; Rachael, Bentonville, AR; and niece Dixie Burrell. He is also survived by six stepchildren, who he loved very dearly and considered his children, Vickie (Rick) Voss, Salt Lake City; Stephen (Ruth) Oliverson, Alpine; Mike (June) Oliverson, Salt Lake City; Pam (Rex) Campbell, Salt Lake City; Jeff (LeeAnn) Oliverson, Salt Lake City; Kim (Annette) Oliverson, Salt Lake City; and 39 grandchildren. Maxine was born March 17, 1924, at Preston, Idaho, the daughter of Farald K. and Meda I. Nelson Robinson. She was married to Delmar “Duke” H. Hansen on June 3, 1941, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Mr. Hansen passed away January 29, 1998. Maxine lived in Preston, and graduated from Preston High School. They moved to Soda Springs in 1967. She had been a bank teller for Idaho First and West One for 17 years, retiring in June of 1989. She was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Second Ward, and was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She liked to play pinochle, read, shop, day trips, music, singing and dancing. She is survived by one son and two daughters and their spouses, Robbie D. and Kelly A. Hansen of Soda Springs, Cheryl and Dennis Douglass of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Nikki and Bob Zombro, Phoenix, Ariz.; also nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Darald Robinson and Leah Almond, both of Salt Lake City, Utah. Her family was at her side to bid her farewell. Jill was born on Oct. 21, 1937 to Ruth Willis Petterborg and Denzil Petterborg in Preston, Idaho. The family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she attended Salt Lake City District schools and graduated from East High School in 1955. She married Fredric S. Allen in November 1955 and was later divorced. She married Arthur "Art" Eichers on December 28, 1972. Jill and Art solemnized their marriage in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1973. Jill loved to cultivate beauty in her surroundings. From the magnificent landscapes and gardens that she carefully created to the tasteful decor of her home, those who knew Jill often remarked on her undeniable eye and appreciation for beauty. In addition, Jill's personal elegance and style served as a great example for her daughters and granddaughters. She will be missed. Jill is survived by her loving husband, Art; two daughters, Staci Allen and Catherine (Mike) Workman; three granddaughters, Jennifer Randall, Melissa (Bryan) Parish and Stephanie Randall; and a great-grandson (Caleb Parish) whose arrival in June is greatly anticipated. Jill is also survived by three stepchildren, Brent, Vickie and Kim and their six children and nine grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her mother, father and a baby daughter, Julie. Jill's daughters wish to express their tremendous appreciation to Art for the many years of care he provided to their mother. A viewing for friends and family will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2002, from 6-8 p.m. at Spilsbury Beard Mortuary, 110 South Bluff in St. George, Utah. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Serving friends and neighbors was her passion. She is dearly loved and will be missed desperately. He died in Salt Lake City. He was born March 25, 1915, in Logan, Utah, the son of Richard Jr. and Tennie Anderson Owen. He grew up in Glendale, Idaho. He attended public school in Glendale and high school in Preston, Idaho. He graduated from the Utah Agriculture College in Logan, Utah, (now Utah State University) as valedictorian of his class. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Minnesota area. He served as a cook in the Army during World War II, where he was stationed in the Pacific. He married Dorothy Eliza McCotter in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were later divorced. He was the High Priest Group leader in his branch in Salt Lake at the time of his death. He is survived by two sisters and four brothers, Lila McCurdy, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Donald James Owen, Salt Lake City; Maurice Owen, Franklin, Idaho; Margaret Wayman, Ogden, Utah; Rulon (Evelyn) Owen, Logan; Lester (Dorothy) Owen, Preston; and by a brother-in-law, Dale C. Gough, Spokane, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Irene, Alice, Genevieve and Joyce Gough. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in the Preston 10th Ward Chapel, 155 N. 200 West, Preston, with Bishop Lee Parker conducting. He is survived by his five children, Boyd (Bunny) Campbell, Logan, Utah; Renee Olson, Bountiful, Utah; Patricia (Gary) Fisher, Clifton, Idaho; Roger (Connie) Campbell, Ogden, Utah; Paul (Shelly) Campbell, Weston, Idaho; 29 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters: Marr Dahle, Logan, Utah and Carrie Fife, Boise, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret on March 16, 1993, his son-in-law, Lorrin Olson, three grandsons: Kelly Boyd Campbell, Louis Drakos, and Jay Lee Campbell, his parents, and brothers and sisters: Susy, Fredrick, Nathan, Annie, Emma, Nora, Fannie, Robert, Hazel, Dewey, Clark, Walter, Tiffen, Selma, Reed, Parley, Ruth, Eva and Marva. He married Rita Hartley in 1994. She passed away in 1998. Dad was a lifelong farmer and took pride in everything he did. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and particularly salmon fishing on the Oregon Coast with family and friends. He enjoyed his grandchildren"s visits to his home in his last years. He will be missed by everyone. The family would like to express special thanks to Billy and Heidi Lazano for their care of Oscar in his last days at home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 25, 2002, 11 a.m. at the Weston First Ward Chapel with Bishop Glade Schvaneveldt conducting. She has experienced many interesting and beautiful events during her lifetime. She graduated with a teaching degree from Utah State in Logan, Utah. She and Van bought the family farm in Preston, Idaho, where she lived most of her life. She has been active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She taught Sunday School for 40 years. She worked in the Logan Temple for six years, and served four full time missions. Rilla was an avid reader with a strong testimony which she often shared with her family and friends. Rilla is survived by sister, Tressa Rose Peterson (Lee), Hyrum, UT; Eldred Nelson (Darlene), Murray; Neal A. Nelson (Roberta), Bountiful; Jerry Nelson (Janice), Mesa, AZ; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grand children. Preceded in death by husband, Van Nelson, sister, Sybel, brothers, Reese Kofoed, Howard Kofoed. Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 25th, 2002 at 1 p.m. at the Fairview 2nd Ward Chapel, Fairview, Idaho.
