Surnames: Stenberg, Bell, Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Eg.2ADE/486 Message Board Post: Idaho State Journal, 05/31/02 PRESTON — Vera Nellie Bell Stenberg, 92, passed into immortality Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Preston, Idaho. She was born September 24, 1909, in Mink Creek, Idaho, to James Hyrum and Carrie Mabel Bell, the third of eight children. Nellie grew up on the family farm in Mink Creek with a solid understanding of hard work and with devoted, faithful parents. Being from Mink Creek meant that everyone was related so family ties were very strong. Nellie cared for and loved everyone around her. She graduated from Mink Creek and went on to graduate from Logan High School. After high school, Nellie attended and graduated from Ricks College, and at that time there were only three buildings. After some time, Nellie went to work in Ogden, Utah, at Wonder Bread; also working there was a friend from Mink Creek named Michael Guy Stenberg. Nellie and Guy courted and were married on Aug. 11, 1943, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Guy preceded her in death on October 14, 1989. Nellie and Guy started a bakery in Preston not too long after returning to Preston. The bakery was their life, working side by side each day and loving every minute of it. Many torrid discussions took place in the coffee shop that was part of the bakery. This was truly a labor of love. The whole family were involved with Del Rae, Tyra Beth and Jeanie all working together. To Guy and Nellie's surprise, their family had not stopped growing; in 1952, Michael joined the gang at the bakery. Nellie was also very much involved in the ward; she served in Relief Society, Sunday school, and her last calling was as ward librarian in which she served for many years. Her sweet, loving spirit is known by many through warm bread, fresh cookies and a helpful hand whenever needed. Nellie spent time working in the school lunch program at both the Jefferson and Preston High School, where she loved being around the youth and most importantly serving others. Nellie's last adventure was serving as a volunteer with the Franklin County Senior Citizens, where her cheerful attitude and smiling face greeted all who came in. She will be dearly missed as was noted by many even in her high school yearbook,"She is the sweetest person I have ever known." Nellie is survived by her son, Michael Guy Jr., (Julie) Stenberg of Preston; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Phil Bell of Washington and James Bell of Salt Lake City; a sister, Zella Bennett of Boise. She was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, a daughter, a granddaughter and her parents. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2002, at noon in the Preston Third Ward Chapel, 155 North 200 West, with Bishop D. Byron Kelley conducting. Friends may call Sunday, June 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 East Oneida, Preston, and Monday, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Mink Creek Cemetery.
