He was born September 27, 1930, in Lewiston, Utah, to George Floyd and Ireta Hodges Helmandollar. Val grew up in Lewiston, Utah, Ogden, Utah, Oxford, Idaho, and graduated from Westside High School, Clifton, Idaho in 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force form 1950-1954. Val was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad from the time he was 17 until his medical retirement in 1984. He married Edith Crookston on February 18, 1955, in the Logan, Utah, LDS. Temple. They lived in Ogden, Utah, Downey, Idaho, and settled in Pocatello in June of 1959, where they had since resided. Val was an avid golfer and had two holes in one at the Highland Golf Course. He was a high priest in the Alameda LDS Sixth Ward, serving as Sunday school president, home teacher and enjoyed the youth of the ward. He and Edith served as temple workers in the Idaho Falls Temple for 10 years. He loved and enjoyed his children and grandchildren, and will be missed by each. Val is survived by his wife, Edith, of Pocatello; two sons, Boyd Val (Darla) Helmandollar, Green River, Wyoming, and Mark C. (Denise) Helmandollar, Inkom, Idaho; four daughters, Karen (Gary) Carter, Kaysville, Utah, Linda (Eric) Elle, Pocatello, Debra Jo (Terry) Harding, Green River, Wyoming, and Heidi Ann Helmandollar, Pocatello; 14 grandchildren and Tad, Paula, Megan and Julia; one great-grandson; two bothers, Dean (Julia) Helmandollar, Chubbuck and Boyce (Betty) Helmandollar, Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Barbara (Randy) Hurwitz, Scottsdale, Arizona. Val was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gene and Morris, and a sister, Lorna. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Alameda LDS Stake Center, corner of Alameda and Jefferson, with Bishop Jim McKee of the Alameda Sixth Ward conducting. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening, Sept. 17 at the Henderson-Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 North 15th Ave., Pocatello, and also at the stake center on Wednesday morning from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Oxford Cemetery at 3:30 p.m., with military graveside rites by the Preston National Guard.

Porter, Franklin; Marcelle Carter, Lyman, Wyoming; by a great-great-grandmother, Anne Hiller, Salt Lake City, Utah; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his great- grandparents, Bill Porter, Clair Carter, and Claude and Bernice Shearer. We are grateful for each beautiful moment we were able to share with Michael James. His precious spirit was felt by all. He will be greatly missed, and our lives will forever be changed. She was born in Bancroft, Idaho, on Oct. 24, 1924, the seventh child of 11 born to Wilford and Albena Bodily. Edith spent her childhood and adolescence in Preston, graduating from Preston High School in 1942. Following graduation she worked in Salt Lake City and then in New York City, as secretary at Columbia Broadcasting Systems. She returned to school at Brigham Young University in 1945. She became reacquainted with Earl Dean Kern at BYU and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Aug. 27, 1947. Together they lived in American Fork, Utah, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Calif., Bethel Park, Pa., Pittsburgh, Pa., and returned to Preston after retirement from U.S. Steel in 1983. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Young Women’s organization (Palo Alto) and as a district and stake Relief Society president. (Pittsburgh). She enjoyed visiting and strengthening members throughout the missionfield of Western Pennsylvania, Eastern Ohio and West Virginia. She loved the symphony and the different ethnic cultures of Pittsburgh and New York City but always felt strong ties to her original hometown. In traveling back and forth across the country, she visited every state in the union except two. During the last 19 years she spent the winter months in sunny Tucson, Ariz., returning each spring to prepare for the arrival of vacationing children, grandchildren and friends eager to enjoy the beautiful memorable summers of Cache Valley. Edith is survived by her husband, Earl Dean Kern, Preston; four children, Sharon Taylor (Michael), Momence, Ill., Karl B. Kern (Martha), Tucson, Ariz., Scott B. Kern, Preston, and Traci Cline (Jeffery), Maple Valley, Wash. She is survived by 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Keith Bodily, (Ruth), Preston, and three sisters, Donna Nielsen, Emmett, Idaho, Mildred McCarthy, Maui, Hawaii, and Helen Jensen (Bryce), Fairview, Idaho. Services will take place Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. State St., at noon with Bishop Steven Fuller conducting. She was born April 14, 1912, in Groveland, Idaho, the daughter of Joseph Leonard and Violet Belle McDonald Merrell. She married Hyrum Glade Johnson on July 8, 1930, in Inkom, Idaho. Their marriage was later sealed in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1996. She enjoyed painting pictures, crafts, making dolls, cooking, camping and traveling. She was interested in gaining more knowledge about the world around her, and took classes for many years in tie making, sewing, tailoring, doll making, Dale Carnegie, oil painting, tole painting, and many more. She participated in the community program and taught painting classes at the middle school in Arimo. She cleaned and sewed new clothes for old dolls and donated to charity for many years. The last two dozen were completed in May of 2002. he made afghans for many of her family members. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and held a variety of positions in this organization. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and participated in many teaching and positions in the youth organization and Relief Society. She is survived by three daughters and one son, Eliza Belle Templeton, Helena, Montana, David (Gloria) Johnson, Preston, Idaho, Cheryl (Gary) Dahlke, Thompson Falls, Montana, Marey (Lawrence) Boldt, Rupert, Idaho; 26 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hyrum, by a son, Richard Glade Johnson, by a daughter, Sheron Arene Fowers, by her parents, and by two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Arimo Stake Center. Friends may call Wednesday. The couple moved to Dayton, Ohio, where their first child was born and Alma served as President of the LDS Branch. In 1940, they moved to Hollydale, California, where three additional children were born and became members of the Downey 2nd Ward. In addition to her family and church, Vivian had a lifelong devotion to music and literature. She was a church organist for more than 60 years and served as literature teacher in the Relief Society. She majored in American literature, and graduated from California State University at Los Angeles, later continuing Master's work in American literature as well as Special Education. Surviving her are a brother, Max Reid, and a sister, Gladys Reid Snyder, of Salt Lake City; and a cousin, Hazel Beddingfield. Her four children are Marilyn Mehr, of East Hampton, New York; Nancy Snell, of Highland, Utah; Judith Olson, of Huntsville, Texas; and Dennis Mehr, of Fullerton, California; and an "adopted" daughter, Graciela Broitman, of New York City. She also has 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the staff of Garden Terrace Alzheimer Center and the Harmony Hospice. Katheleen passed at 5:30 on the morning of Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, following a heart attack. Katheleen was born in Weston, Idaho on November 15, 1938, to Novis Estelle Payne and Leland Norman Day. She was the youngest of their four children - Norman, Elven and LaVelle. Katheleen married Richard Farwell in 1955, Ogden, Utah. Katheleen and Richard divorced a few years later, but remained good friends through their lives. They had one child, Garry Michael Dillard. Katheleen married again in 1958, Pocatello, Idaho, and had a daughter, Kathy Lynn Bright-Galyk, then later divorced. In 1960, Moralis, Mexico, Katheleen married Monte D. Dillard. They had two children, Monte D. Dillard, Jr. and LeAnna J. Dillard-Reardon. Monte later adopted Katheleen"s children from her previous marriages. Katheleen and Monte raised their family in the community of Westminster, California. In 1977, Katheleen and Monte moved their family to Hooper, Utah. Katheleen worked for Golden State Casting (GSC) as a quality supervisor, then later as an accountant. After a layoff at GSC in 1990, Katheleen worked for Morton/Autoliv as their R & D Accountant until her retirement in 1998. Monte died in 1996. Katheleen married Dennis E. Stanton in 1994, Clark County, Nevada. They lived in Roy, Utah until they both retired in 1998, and then moved to Mesquite, Nevada. While in Mesquite, Katheleen and Dennis took care of Katheleen"s mother at their home until Estelle"s death. Her hobbies were hands on: needlepoint, crocheting dressing for porcelain dolls, sewing and interior decoration. Katheleen also enjoyed oil painting. While there are only a few of her paintings around, they are enjoyed by many. Katheleen accomplished many things in life: raised four children, had a successful career, a fulfilling artistic life, and took great care of family members in need - all the while staying true to herself with love, kindness and compassion. Her husband Dennis, brothers, Norman, Elven, and LaVelle, sons, Garry and Monte, daughters, Kathy and LeAnna, survive Katheleen. She is also survived by granddaughters, Janeice, Jodi, Jessica, Jill, Jackie, Kara, Lacy, Danelle, and grandsons, Christopher, Andrew, Zac, Jackson, Brandon, and great-grandsons, Cori, Jeremy and Justin. Also surviving are her stepchildren, Richard and Curtis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Estelle (1913-2000) and Leland (1906-1969); her stepfather, Leonard (1919-1996), husband Richard (1935-1985); and husband Monte (1933-1996). Katheleen will be missed by countless people who were forever charmed by the gentle, easygoing, talented person. In his 80 years on this earth Max grew up in Preston, Idaho; served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern United States and served with honor in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. In 1949, he married his eternal companion Eva in the Logan Temple. Together they raised five children in Woods Cross (with the exception of two years in Mississippi and two years in Texas). Max served in numerous positions in the Woods Cross 2nd Ward and was the Bishop of the Woods Cross 5th Ward. He also fulfilled various positions in the Bountiful East Stake. Max has served as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple and for the last several years has worked in the Bountiful Temple. Max loved to work in the yard and excelled at making things work using materials around the yard. Max is survived by his wife Eva; children, Kay (Hal) Johnston, Bruce R. Webster, Deon (Fred) Moss, JaNeil (John) Sieb, Robert R. Webster, 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; two brothers, Dean (Alice), Carl (Lois), and four sisters, Gladys McCloud, Eva Thomsen, Connie Petterborg, Vonda Webster. Max was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Wayne and Valdo. She was born July 2, 1911, in Preston, Idaho, to James Eddie Alexander Evans and Minnie Alice Warrick Evans. She was the fifth child of nine. She had five brothers and three sisters. Ruby grew up in Preston where she attended school and met her eternal sweetheart, Horace, of 71 years. They were married Aug. 11, 1930, in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on April 10, 1961. They lived on the family farm in Franklin, Idaho, where they raised three sons and a daughter. They moved to Othello in 1974. Ruby enjoyed caring for her family, keeping a clean house, growing beautiful flowers and a luscious garden. She was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a member of the Othello 3rd Ward at the time of her death. Her favorite time was going to dances on Saturday night with Horace. Ruby was proceeded in death by her husband Horace, one sister and four brothers. Survivors include three sons, Robert and wife, Hennrietta Haworth of Othello, Wash.; daughter, Alice and husband, John Parker of Challis, Idaho; sisters, Ruth Goff and Valetta Petterborg of St. George; one brother, Fred Evans of Phoenix, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at 1 p.m. In Othello, Wash. Another funeral will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20, at noon in the Franklin LDS Stake Center in Franklin, with visitation at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. She married Alvin E. Nye on October 22, 1947, in Bancroft, Idaho. (Their marriage was solemnized on June 22, 1964, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.) She attended school in Lund, Idaho, and graduated as salutatorian from North Gem High School in 1941; she received an associate degree from Idaho State University, bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and a master’s degree from the College of Idaho. After the couple married they resided in Nyssa, Ore., until the summer of 1948, when they moved to Pocatello, Idaho. In 1961 they moved to Boise, Idaho, and resided there until 1973, when they returned to Pocatello. Pocatello was their home. In 1999, they moved to Corvallis, where they had happily resided since. Mae had a true love for knowledge and helping people. She selected a career in education, and after teaching spent 27 years as a guidance counselor in the Boise and Pocatello school systems. She had an understanding heart and the ability to help others with the problems they might face; she was multi-talented, but truly loved music, and spent a good deal of time teaching music and as an accompanist. Her hobbies were rubber stamp art, cooking, baking, playing dominoes and various card games. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She is survived by her husband, Alvin E. Nye of Corvallis, Ore.; a son, Leo Allen Nye of Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Elva Mae Hedges of Meridian, Idaho; sister, Lou Dean Moore of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren (all of whom had been greatly blessed by her and loved her dearly). Her parents, a brother, Linford Crockett Reddish and a grandson, Jeffrey Paul Hedges preceded her in death. Visitation was 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Walnut Street LDS Church, and funeral services were Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Walnut Street Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bishop Craig Cole officiating. She was an avid supporter of her family, from the tender care given to her sweet husband during his years with cancer to cheering for her children and grandchildren at their many sporting and cultural events. She always enjoyed having the family together at holiday times and joined in the fun at family activities.
