He was born Sept. 10, 1930, in Treasureton, Idaho, the son of Thomas John "TJ" and Bessie Cole Reeder. He served and LDS mission to the Great Lakes Mission. He was in the Army for two years, and served with the Idaho National Guard. He married Naretta Turner on June 22, 1956, in the Logan, Utah temple. He was a high priest in the LDS Church, and had served in the Treasureton Ward bishopric. He was a trustee of the school board for two terms, and was also state chairman for two years. He worked as the Preston City fire chief and 18 years with the Idaho State Lands Fire Control. He was director of the Cottonwood Grazing Association and also director of the Treasureton Irrigation Co. He is survived by his wife, Naretta, of Treasureton; two sons and one daughter, Val T. Reeder, Preston, Barbara Reeder (Michael Rourke), Skokie, Illinois, Jay T. Reeder, Preston; seven grandchildren (Brett Val Reeder, Jason Reeder, Joey Reeder, Cole Reeder, Shannon Rourke, Erin Rourke, Breeze Reeder); five sisters and three brothers, Violet Weeks, Preston, Irma (Roger) Walker, Delta, Utah, John (Leora) Reeder, Tooele, Utah, Francis Butler, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Neal (Marie) Reeder, Malad, Idaho, Alice (Cliff) Johnson, Preston, Nedra Hodges, Woods Cross, Utah, and Vernan (Lorna) Reeder, Spanish Fork, Utah. He was born April 8, 1918, in Mink Creek, Idaho, the son of Oscar Lawrence and Martha Christina Petersen Wilde. He was one of the first men called to serve his country in World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific as an artillery sergeant. He saw hard service. He served for over four years, receiving an honorable discharge on August 25, 1945. He married Susie Louisa Egbert on May 23, 1953, in the Logan, Utah temple. They made their home on the family farm in Mink Creek. They are the parents of two sons, David Cloyd (Judy) Wilde, Mink Creek, and Wayne Oscar (Sandy) Wilde, Huson, Montana. Susie died suddenly on July 15, 1986. Cloyd later moved off the farm to Preston. He met and married Leonore Jorgenson. She died on Oct. 26, 1999. He was always active in the community and the LDS Church, both in Mink Creek and Preston. He served as counselor in the bishopric, as a finance clerk, high priest group assistant, Scoutmaster, ward executive secretary, and home teacher. He was on the board of directors for the irrigation company. He is survived by his sons and five grandsons, Aaron, Christopher, Spencer, Sean, Tyler; by four sisters, June Austin, Salt Lake City, Utah, Betty Erramouspe, Blackfoot, Idaho, Dottie Casperson, Preston, Dixie Bennett, Pingree, Idaho; by a stepdaughter, Dorothy Roholt, St. George, Utah; a stepson, Bruce Jorgenson, Evanston, Wyoming; and by six step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two wives, his parents, two sisters, three brothers, and a sister-in-law. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at 1 p.m. in the Mink Creek Ward Chapel, with Bishop Jim Harrison conducting. In 1996, she was the “Queen of Lights” for the annual Festival of Lights celebration in Preston. She loved animals very much. She made friends easily and was always very nice to others. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. He was born on Sept. 20, 1926, in Logan the son of Lewellyn Jeffs and Sarah Hawkins Gunnell. He married his sweetheart, Beth Smith, on Feb. 18, 1946, in the Logan Temple. He served as an Idaho State trooper for 25 years, as the Franklin County Sheriff for eight years, and as a Juvenile Probation officer for four years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in numerous callings including bishop of the Whitney Ward and he was the first stake president of the Franklin Idaho Stake. He served two missions, the first in the Western States Mission, and the second with his sweetheart in the Rochester New York Mission. He and his wife also served as temple officiators in the Logan Temple for two years. The two most important things in his life were his family and his love for the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was a wonderful patriarch and example to his family. He had the unique ability to love and serve others. He is survived by his wife, Beth Gunnell, Preston; five daughters, Linda (Gerald) Skinner, Thatcher, Idaho, Bonnie (Maurice) Nielson, Preston, Shauna Gunnell, Providence, Denise (Don) Olson, Ephraim, Teresa (Kelly) Rasmussen, Preston; 25 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Dorothy Jensen, Brigham City, Luana Fowers, Ogden; a brother, Louis (Edna) Gunnell, Providence, two brothers-in-law, Luther Victor, Ogden, and William (Bill) Parker, Ogden. Our beloved mother and grandmother passed peacefully with many of her children by her side. She will be missed greatly. She was born on June 3, 1915 in Whitney, Idaho to a family of 11 children. She loved life and lived it to it's fullest. She attended Utah State, then served an LDS mission to Canada. While on her mission she met Elder Maughan. June married Kenneth Lloyd Maughan in the Logan Temple on March 11, 1939. They were happily married 46 years. Southern California was their home for 37 years. June moved to Salt Lake after the death of Kenneth in 1985. One of her many joys was to see 23 of her posterity serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. June served two additional missions with her husband in Australia. She served faithfully in all callings. Completing her history and gathering her genealogy was her greatest delight. She loved the Lord, and she has endured to the end. She will be missed dearly. She leaves a legacy of righteous living, filled with sacrifice, love, and service. She is survived by her children, Maureen Totland (Gary), Koreen Kieffer (Bud), Judy Norton (Arlen), Bobbie Allen (Rod), Jeneal Olson (John), Kenneth Maughan (Gwenda), Chad Maughan (Marsha) and Lillian Ning (Andy). He lived in Oxnard, California, for 30 years before retiring to Whitney, Idaho, where he lived for the past 30 years. He was born March 25, 1907, in Preston, Idaho, the son of Thomas William and Mina Kaufman Tanner. He married Veva Nickerson on Jan. 17, 1930, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners for 60 years. He retired after 26 years as a construction superintendent for Ralph T. Viola in Oxnard, California. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved being a snowbird (spending winters in Arizona), and he enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles, among many other activities. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Veva, this past April and by his two children, Richard Tanner and Maralyn Compton. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Pratt and Rosemary Mitchell; sons, Thomas Tanner and John Tanner; by 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and by many relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at noon in the Whitney Second Ward Chapel, with Bishop Greg Griffeth conducting. He was born September 10, 1925 to William and Phyllis Page Palmer in Hollbrook, Idaho. Lavon was reared and educated in Preston, Idaho, graduating from Preston High School. He joined the Navy in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a hospital corpsman. After serving his country, Lavon met and married the love of his life, Mary Benton on September 12, 1953. They had 49 wonderful years together, rearing six children. Lavon worked as an aircraft inspector at Hill Air Force Base, retiring after 38 years.He was a member of the Washington Terrace 6th Ward.He loved to work out in his yard and always had beautiful flower gardens. He also enjoyed going for a walk. Lavon will always be loved, remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a gentle man with a ready smile and a kind word for everyone. He is survived by his wife and six children; David (Debora) Palmer, Syracuse; James Palmer, Ogden; Richard (Patricia) Palmer, Roy; Joy (Delbert) Morris, Eden; Michelle (Mark) Hirschi, Washington Terrace; Carol (Richard) Tonks, North Ogden; as well as 24 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren with whom Lavon loved spending time. Carma married Ray Christian Sanders in the winter of 1938, in Ashton, Idaho and they were later married for eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in the Idaho Falls area and raised their four children there. They moved to the Nampa area in 1959. Carma and Ray operated the Nampa Custom Cannery on Midland Blvd for 11 years. Carma then went to work for Carnation Potatoe Company, until she retired. She loved to travel and raise her roses, and loved fishing with her sister Vicki. She enjoyed very much the love of her family, with family parties and special occasions, her favorite times. She had a strong testimony of the Savior and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Nampa 16th Ward. She is survived by her daughter Thayla Walden and her husband Stephen of West Jordon, Utah, son Kirk Sanders and his wife Marla of Nampa, a sister Beatrice Welling of Clearfield, Utah, and a brother Glen Hendricks of Sunset, Utah. A son-in-law Clay Thornton and a daughter-in-law Cheryl Sanders McBride. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, son Verlin, daughter Nola and a granddaughter Vickie. She leaves a tender spot in the hearts of those who are left behind. Sixteen grandchildren who adored her, and their spouses, 10 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews and countless dear friends. Carma leaves a wonderful legacy of love to her family and all who knew her. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, serving as county president. She was an Avon representative, and she did volunteer work at the Preston schools. She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of Preston; two daughters and one son, Susan Pacheco, Mesquite, Nevada, Linda (Scott) Hampton, Franklin, Idaho, Kevin D. (Melinda) Wilkes, Preston; eight grandchildren; and three sisters, Thelma (Pete) Kinyon, Redmond, Oregon, Cecelia Gittens, Great Falls, Montana, and Alapha (Bob) House, Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was born on March 29, 1908, at Preston, Idaho, where she resided until the last five years of her life. Her parents were Theodore Daniel Alder and Alice Ellen Paull. She married Joseph Adolph Nuffer on July 20, 1927, at the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. He passed away in 1985. Gretta went by her second name as long as she could remember, rather than her first name, Susan. She was the sixth child out of seven children in her family. All of her brothers and sisters and their spouses have preceded her in death. Her brothers and sisters in order of age were: Waneita (Neita) Ruby Swainston (Nathan), Melvin Paull Alder (Emma Christella), George Edwin Alder (Florence Viola), Monona Alice Andrews (Alvin), Lewis Charles Alder (Norine), and Verna Althea Kidd (Garland). She will have a grand reunion with her family in paradise. As a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, she had always been proud of her pioneer heritage, dating back to the Nauvoo period. She was the instructor in her local chapter and enjoyed giving the history of the pioneers. Gretta was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society president in the Preston First Ward. She had the responsibility of raising money for the ward Relief Society budget. Many bazaars and fund-raising dinners were organized to provide funds for a large ward of 1,000 members. She was also a Young Women’s president and Primary president in her ward. Gretta enjoyed being a homemaker. She took this job very seriously by canning the garden produce. The Franklin County Cannery was used extensively by Gretta in canning vegetables, fruits, meats, soups, etc. She always had a year supply of food on hand and enough to spare for her daughter’s family in Cedar City. There never was a problem for Gretta to prepare a meal for unannounced guests, as her basement was thoroughly stocked with food. She graduated from the Preston High School. In high school she loved to give readings for various clubs and organizations. She enjoyed being in plays and road shows, and loved to dance and was a popular girl with the boys. Although she didn’t continue her formal education beyond high school, she was always interested in learning new homemaking skills and attending BYU Education Week, held each summer in Preston. She did volunteer work at the Franklin County Fair and loved to enter her sweet pickles in competition at the fair. Those family members surviving Gretta are two children, a son, Donald G. Cummings (Norma), residing in Las Vegas, Nevada, and a daughter, Sharon Nuffer Olsen (Larry), residing in Cedar City, Utah. She has nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Preston, Idaho, in the Preston Fifth Ward, located at 213 South Second East, on Saturday, September 21 at 11 a.m. Family and friends are invited to the viewing on Friday evening, Sept. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Webb Funeral Home, and on Saturday, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Preston Fifth Ward Church. Winn, 101, passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at his home in Salt Lake City. He was born April 28, 1901, in Preston, Idaho, the son of Marion Anderson and Rosella Ann Nelson Winn. He married Erma Winona Bennett on Dec. 24, 1924, in the Logan Temple. They were married for 77 years and were recognized by the Leo Burnett All State Agency of Chicago, Illinois, as the longest married couple in the United States. He farmed in Idaho and worked at the Franklin County Sugar Company until moving to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1965. There he worked at the LDS Hospital in the Animal Research Lab. He loved to camp, and he spent many wonderful winters in Blythe, California, Buckeye, Arizona, and Las Vegas, Nevada. He enjoyed riding his adult tricycle and was known as the "Bike Man". He was an inspiration to everyone in the neighborhood- he continued to ride his bike until May 2002 at the age of 101. He was a high priest and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife, Erma B. Winn, Salt Lake City; three sons and two daughters, Paul B. Winn, Las Vegas, Nevada; Clare B. (Marlene) Winn, Salt Lake City; Orin B. Winn, Salt Lake City; Deyon Cazier, Salt Lake City; Idella (Alex) Todd, Salt Lake City; 14 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl George Winn, by a daughter, Erma Dene Winn, and by four brothers. He was born September 27, 1930, in Lewiston, Utah, to George Floyd and Ireta Hodges Helmandollar. Val grew up in Lewiston, Utah, Ogden, Utah, Oxford, Idaho, and graduated from Westside High School, Clifton, Idaho in 1948. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force form 1950-1954. Val was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad from the time he was 17 until his medical retirement in 1984. He married Edith Crookston on February 18, 1955, in the Logan, Utah, LDS. Temple. They lived in Ogden, Utah, Downey, Idaho, and settled in Pocatello in June of 1959, where they had since resided. Val was an avid golfer and had two holes in one at the Highland Golf Course. He was a high priest in the Alameda LDS Sixth Ward, serving as Sunday school president, home teacher and enjoyed the youth of the ward. He and Edith served as temple workers in the Idaho Falls Temple for 10 years. He loved and enjoyed his children and grandchildren, and will be missed by each. Val is survived by his wife, Edith, of Pocatello; two sons, Boyd Val (Darla) Helmandollar, Green River, Wyoming, and Mark C. (Denise) Helmandollar, Inkom, Idaho; four daughters, Karen (Gary) Carter, Kaysville, Utah, Linda (Eric) Elle, Pocatello, Debra Jo (Terry) Harding, Green River, Wyoming, and Heidi Ann Helmandollar, Pocatello; 14 grandchildren and Tad, Paula, Megan and Julia; one great-grandson; two bothers, Dean (Julia) Helmandollar, Chubbuck and Boyce (Betty) Helmandollar, Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Barbara (Randy) Hurwitz, Scottsdale, Arizona.
