He was born Aug. 29, 1917, in Franklin, Idaho, to John William and Pearl Day Whitehead. He married Eva Chatterton in the Logan Temple on April 26, 1939. He was a valiant servant in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints holding many positions in the different organizations. He served with his wife for 14 years in the Logan Temple. Through his life he was a very hard worker as a sheep herder and farmer. He worked at Del Monte for many years and in many other various jobs. He started his own mink ranch in 1949 and it was a family project teaching his children how to work hard until he sold it in 1984. His many enjoyments in life were his family, fishing, camping, touring and his temple work. He also kept a few sheep to keep him busy through his retired years. Surviving is his loving wife, Eva, of 63 years -- they were blessed with five children: Allan (Katherine) Whitehead, Jerry (Sherron) Whitehead, Wynn (Debbie) Whitehead, Nancy (Jerry) McPheeters, and Ted (Beverly) Whitehead. They have 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by sisters, Barbara, Emma, Reana, Doris, Vilda and June, and by a brother, Lloyd. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Paul, and a son, Allan. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at noon in the Franklin Stake Center with Bishop Douglas Porter conducting. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the stake center. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery.

She was born March 31, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John Taylor Smellie and Esther Ruth Kirkham. She married Arthur Marshall McKeen on September 14, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away April 18, 1977. She was raised by her loving stepmother, Maria Ricks Smellie, in Franklin, Idaho. She graduated from Franklin High School and attended the University of Utah. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Relief Society and Primary, Name Extraction and Family History programs and served a Church Service Mission. She was also involved in voter registration. She is survived by her children; Miriam Lenore Fa"atuai of Ogden, Utah; Jeanette Newmaker of New Athens, Ohio; Elaine D"Agnillo of Pleasant View, Utah; Barbara Beck of Spokane, Washington; Susan Nye of West Jordan, Utah; Bob McKeen of Farmington, Utah; Marcia Black of Beaver, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, her siblings: Robert Smellie of Tetonia, Idaho; and Esther Simmons of Shamong, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, two sisters and two grandsons. Marian was born Oct 16, 1927 in Preston, ID to Wilford and Terese Smith. She was the sixth of eight children. She graduated from Preston High School and Utah State University. In 1950 she married Richard Dean Pond in the Logan LDS Temple. Her life's work was devoted to her sweetheart, Dick, and her family of six children, David (Karen), Kelly (Sharon), Jill, Karen (Chuck), Mark (Michelle), and Courtney (Jalyn). Marian was blessed with the gift of music and had a song for every occasion and always a song in her heart! Her music conveyed love of God, family and life to all who gave ear. In her 75 years she served in many capacities as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of her sweetest service experiences was to serve a mission with her companion, Dick, in the Auckland, New Zealand mission from 1992 to 1994. Marian is survived by her husband, Richard, six children, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by loving sisters, Beth, Deanne, Ruth, and special brother, Richard. They lived and raised their children in Georgetown, Idaho and later moved to Ogden, Utah, maintaining both homes for many years. Geneva is survived by two sons, Russell LaMonte (Helen) Bee of North Logan, UT; Steve (Leslye) Bee of Layton, UT; two daughters, Elaine (Robert) Kropushek of Georgetown, ID; Barbara (Arthur) Brownell of Bountiful, UT; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He married Norma Jacqueline Kershaw Jan 26, 1943, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death. He then married Jerry Nielson Childs July 26, 1968 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death. Later married Cheri Silver Fogg June 12, 1975, later divorced. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions in the church, including positions in the stake high council, bishopric, Scouting programs, and sports programs. He enjoyed his association with many young men and women in basketball, baseball, and scouting, and was a positive influence in many of their lives. In his retirement, he worked at the Jordan River Temple. Preceded in death by his parents; two wives; and brothers, Donald, Stanley; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Handy died on October 25, 2002, of complications incident to age. He was 93 at the time of his death. Harley was born in Whitney, ID on Nov 20, 1908. He was the third child of sev-en born to Alonzo Hazelton Handy and Netty Pearl Mendenhall. The children to this union were Her-man Mendenhall, Gladys, Harley Mendenhall, Delca Hymas, Don Mendenhall, Alonzo Hazelton and Ruby Cunningham. He was preceded in death by sisters Gladys and Delca, brothers Herman Mendenhall and Don Mendenhall. He married Eva Lorraine Kirkbride in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 12, 1934. By this marriage they were blessed with four children, Harley K (Mesa), James Franklin, (Payson) Michael J. a stillborn son and a daughter, Susan Beth Bennett, (Syracuse). Harley was born on a farm and did farm work until 1929 when he started herding sheep. He worked on farms in Idaho, Montana and Canada. In 1929 he started herding sheep for Joe Buck in Montana. In 1930 he herded sheep for Joe Hall and in 1931 he herded sheep for Jerry Meek. The fall of 1935 he entered Utah State University in Logan, Utah. He again herded sheep the summer of 1936 during the summer vacation from college. He graduated from the Agricultural College in June of 1939 with a BS degree in Range Management. After graduating from college he went to work for the grazing service, Department of Interior in Brigham City, UT. During his 31 years as a federal employee, he worked for the Grazing Service, Indian Service, Soil Conservation Service and the Forest Service. He retired from the Bureau of Land Management the latter part of November 1969. At the time of his retirement he was the Assistant District Manager in Fillmore, UT of the Bureau of Land Management. Harley belonged to the Rotary Club while stationed in Shoshone, ID and while stationed in Fillmore he served as President and also as Secretary of the Fillmore Lions Club and Chairman for the Red Cross fund drive. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held positions as teacher in the Sunday School and Mutual Improvement, Superintendent of the Sunday School and the M.I.A. Elders Quorum President, one of the Seven Presidents of the Millard Stake 79's Quorum, a counselor in the High Priest Group and a Visiting Teacher. He lived a good life and had been very active all his life. Services will be 12 noon, Wed. Oct 30, 2002, at Lindquist Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Born February 19, 1914, the fourth of six brothers and sisters, to Leonard G. Hobbs Parkinson and Emma Chatterton Parkinson, her formative years were spent in Franklin, Idaho. She attended Logan High School and Utah State Agricultural College. While in high school she met and later married Thurlow H. "Tad" Bullen, her devoted husband of 59 years, who precedes her in death, April 11, 1997. She loved her years as an "Aggie" at Utah State where she and Tad met many lifelong loyal friends, of whom Augusta Bullen (Phillip), Edith Ann Lloyd (Hon. Sherman P.), Veda Mae and Richard H. "Dick" Romney, Maridean Ryberg (Eric), and Evelyn Wakley (Ralph) survive her; they are preceded by Leroy "Toe" and Grace Anderson. They were an incomparable group of fast friends. During the early years of their marriage, the couple worked for Union Pacific Railroad, living in Sun Valley, Idaho, where Tad was assistant manager and Virginia worked in accounting; Grand Canyon, Arizona, where he was general manager of the Lodge and facilities at North Rim; and Zion National Park, where he managed the Lodge. She lived for a period at the Escalante Hotel in Cedar City, Utah, which he managed and then while he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1948, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Tad was a restaurateur and club manager and Virginia was a wonderful mother, deeply devoted to her family. She is survived by her son, Herschel Bullen, his wife Lora, and grandchildren, David Bullen, Jonathan Bullen, and Samuel Bullen, of Salt Lake City; son Thurlow P. "Tad" Bullen, his wife Holly, and granddaughter Anne Bullen, San Diego, CA; and grandson, Sebastian Clinger, Ashland, OR; and daughter, Kathleen Bullen Hoagland, her husband J. Anthony "Tony" Hoagland, Salt Lake City; and grandchildren, Heather Hoagland, San Diego, CA; and Danielle Hoagland, Seattle WA; Her sister Ruth Parkinson Ferguson, Salt Lake City; brother L. Spencer Parkinson, M.D., Logan; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and their children, survive her. Even to her last days, like her father before her, Virginia retained her sense of humor and could be witty and quick. She was a proud and elegant presence at the Parklane Manor in Salt Lake City, where she enjoyed her later years. She could frequently be seen mingling with the residents, dressed to the nines, clutching her fashionable purse, wearing her ever-present high-heels, often donning a mink stole (regardless of season or heat). While at Parklane Manor, she received loving care, support and friendship from the management and staff, to whom the family extends its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation. She was much beloved by all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 25, 2002 at 11 a.m., at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. Ernest preceded her in death on May 14, 1998. She was raised in Cub River, ID, later moving to Ogden and then to Roy. Pearl was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had served in various callings. She worked as a machinist at several companies, retiring from Williams International in 1995. Pearl enjoyed bowling, quilting, making porcelain dolls and playing cards. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Surviving are three sons and two daughters, Stephen (Nita) Blodgett, Ogden, Glen (Leesa) Blodgett, Salt Lake City, Bryan (Debbie) Blodgett, Sandy, Patricia (David) Dirks, Arvada, CO, Rhonda (Darren) DeGroot, Roy; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was born Oct 19, 1908, in Logan, UT, the son of Joseph E. Jr. and Annie Izatt Wilson. He moved from Logan to Lund, ID, with his family when he was 9 years old. He loved farm work and was a prominent farmer in Cache Valley. He married Reva Whittle on June 7, 1933, in the Logan LDS Temple. After a few depression years, they settled on a dairy farm in Fairview, ID, where they raised their five children with the good people who lived in the communities around Preston. They have maintained a home in Fairview as well as in St. George, UT, where they have spent 16 winters. Royal was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a two-year mission in the East Central States from 1928-30 and another mission with his wife in 1976 to the Pennsylvania Harrisburg Mission. He was a counselor in the Lund Idaho Ward bishopric and a counselor in the Idaho Stake Young Men's program. He served in the Sunday School as a counselor, as a gospel doctrine teacher, as High Priest group leader and teacher, and as a home teacher. He was a school trustee and dir! ector for Hi-Land Dairy of Murray, Utah, from 1966-75. He retired from the dairy business and then enjoyed wood crafting which he did for many years until his eyesight began to fail. He and his wife traveled extensively. They visited every state in the United States except Alaska and they visited several foreign countries. He is survived by his wife and his five children, Brent Guy (Marjorie) Wilson, Pennsylvania Furnace, PA, Randon Whittle (Gayle) Wilson, Salt Lake City, UT, Pamela (Lyle) Rich, Preston, ID, Kim Royal (Vicky) Wilson, Salt Lake City, UT, Michelle (Lynn) Hunt, St. George, UT; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and by two brothers, Luther (Ina) Wilson, Soda Springs, ID, Ted (Elna) Wilson, El Cajon, CA; and by a sister, Beth Lloyd, Ontario, OR. Surviving are three sons: Royce (Launa), Doyle, and Hal (Rayna) all of Smithfield; 10 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, seven brothers, four sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Lorraine. She was born October 13, 1905 in Preston, Idaho, the daughter of Albert J. Carver and Eliza Stevenson. As a newborn, she went with her family by horse and sleigh to live in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They later moved to the family homestead in Eden, Utah. She was a resident of Eden until she married E. Carl Green in the Salt Lake Temple on May 8, 1929. They resided in Ogden Valley for five years while her husband was principal of the Eden school. In 1935 they moved to Taylor where she resided until her passing. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Taylor Ward for 67 years and was affectionately known to many as "Grandma Green." She unselfishly shared her abundant talents as she blessed the lives of her husband, family and community. Grandma served in many Ward and Stake leadership positions. She loved Relief Society and working in the Ogden LDS Temple. Perhaps her most enjoyable Church experience was serving as "Grandmother" to the Calgary Canada missionaries while her son served as mission president. Grandma was a gifted seamstress and had the reputation as a creator of beautiful wedding gowns for many brides, including her daughters and granddaughters. With talented hands and a patient heart she taught many the art of homemaking. During the traditional fall pheasant hunts, Grandma would prepare delicious chicken noodle soup and hot rolls for her family. Until age slowed her, she cared for her own garden. She was a local authority on homemade candy and her famous "Butter Mints" graced the menus of many parties and wedding receptions. As a grandmother, she loved all of her 17 grandchildren. Each knew that he or she was her "favorite". This love extended to her 50 great grand- children. She is survived by her son, Melvin C. (Eleanor) Green of Centerville and one daughter, Loralee G. (Earle) Sanders of Taylor. Her husband, E. Carl Green, her daughter Janean Green Chipman, one brother, Orlo S. Carver and two sisters, Theo C. Peterson and Wanda Carver, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19, 2002 at 11:00 a.m., at the Taylor Chapel (2200 South and 4300 West) in Ogden, Utah. Friends and family may call at Myers Mortuary (845 Washington Boulevard) Friday, October 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Taylor Chapel. Internment, Eden Cemetery. The family recognizes and appreciates the efforts of Terry Thompson and Diane Baker for the love and attention given Grandma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E. Carl and Thelma C. He was born Oct. 5, 1918, in New York City, the son of Francis Earl and Emma Madeline Kilgore Manwaring. His family moved to upstate New York when he was 14 years old. Some of his fondest memories were in a small, rural town in Penn Yan, NY. At the age of 21, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 13, 1940. He was assigned to the destroyer USS Benson. He was on the Benson for two and a half years and then was assigned to the Air Craft Carrier USS Essex just after it was commissioned and served aboard three years. He served in the Coast Guard for two years while stationed in Long Beach, Calif. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was an avid reader and was a lover of opera and Celtic music. He met his wife, Verleen Comish, in Los Angeles, Calif. They were married in the St. George LDS Temple on Nov. 22, 1949. They lived in Seattle, Wash., for seven years, then moved to Lodi in 1959. While in Seattle working for Boeing, he wrote test documents for component parts for the B-52. He was also a draftsman at Supermold in Lodi and worked for B&J Engineering and for the City of Lodi. He retired from the Lodi Unified School District. He is survived by his wife, Verleen, of Lodi; two sons, David Manwaring, Hollister, Calif., and Alan Manwaring, Calif.; a daughter, Kathleen Uribe, Lodi; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at 3 p.m. in the Lodi Stake Center, 1510 Century Blvd, Lodi. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the church. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Franklin, Idaho Cemetery. He will be buried among the pioneer relatives of his wife. Services are under the direction of Webb Funeral Home.

He preceded her in death in Oct. of 1983. She married Robert J. Wilson on Sept. 27, 1986, in Richland, Washington. She owned and operated the Preston A&W Restaurant for 25 years. She graduated as valedictorian from high school in Clark Fork, Idaho. She attended the University of Idaho. She also ran the Spudnut Shop in Preston by the Jefferson School. She was a loving wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Wilson, Spokane; two sons and one daughter, Steven (Mary) Beckstead, Henderson, Nevada, Alan Beckstead, Modesto, California, Sondra (Bart) Layne, Modesto, California; 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Julie (Jim) Benson, Santarem, Brazil, Elsie (Bob) Hausman, Deer Park, Washington; Rob (Carol) Wilson, Seattle/Spokane, Washington; two brothers and two sisters, Kenny (Millie) Best, Paradise, Montana, Frances Meyers, Libby, Montana, John (Kate) Best, Sandpoint, Idaho, and Betty Stockdale, Mesa, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ken Beckstead, by two grandsons, Jeffrey Layne and John Beckstead, and by two sisters and three brothers. Born January 2, 1918, in Preston, Idaho to Franklin Orlando and Emma Christensen Hales. She was the youngest of five children. Bonnie spent most of her life in Salt Lake. She loved to play tennis and bridge and as a young girl her days were spent at Liberty Park doing both. She graduated from South High and at the time was working for ZCMI as a newspaper and Tiffin Room model. It was there that she met John M. Clayton and they were married on February 22, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Bonnie worked as a secretary and spent many years working for Head Start and Van Gas Company. She served in every organization of the LDS church but especially enjoyed her time with the Cub Scouts and the Gleaners in Liberty Ward. Bonnie loved her family and they always came first. She shared many wonderful times with her sisters and their spouses, her many nieces and nephews, spouses and their children, her own grandchildren and great grandchildren. She opened her heart to anyone that needed a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children, Toni (Rick) Farr, Alpine; Kelly M. (Judy) Clayton, Highland; Six grandchildren, Alicia (Mike) Hudson, Eric (Cathy) Farr, Tristin, Justin, Matthew and Marissa Clayton; two great-grandchildren: and loving sister, Verda Seal. Preceded in death by husband, John M., infant son John, parents, brother Glenn Hales, sisters, Erma Ogden and Lois Frazier. She was born Aug. 15, 1908, in Blackfoot, Idaho, the daughter of Philip Richard and Myrtle Lutz Moore. She married Andrew Howard Johnson on July 20, 1927, in the Logan Utah Temple. He preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 1974. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the secretary/treasurer of the Marsh Valley School District for 19 years. The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to all the doctors, nurses, and aides who provided such kind and loving care for their mother. She is survived by three daughters and one son, Raeola (Bert) Sorensen, Winslow, Ariz.; Donna (Boyd) Baugh, Los Altos, Calif.; Robert (Janet) Johnson, Preston, Idaho; Roma (Robert) Knudsen, Clovis, Calif.; 24 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Fern Hammond, Blackfoot, Idaho. She was born May 9, 1907 in Pleasant Grove, UT. She was the second of three children born to Franklin Whitmee and Agatha Mik-kelsen Lithun Allen. The family moved to Herri-man, UT and later to Lehi, UT. She attended BYU, USU, and the U of U. After graduating she engaged in what was the love of her life; teaching children in elementary school. She married Ben Ericksen Swann June 27, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. For more than 45 years she taught, and loved children she taught in Salt Lake, Magna, Preston, ID and six years were spent in the school rooms in Hawaii. A brief part of her career was as a principal in Preston but the real joy for her was with the children in the class room. Because she wasn't blessed with children of her own, those she taught became the recipients of her special love. She was a member of the LDS church and held numerous callings mostly with the youth. Particularly she worked in the Jr. Sunday School. She was a visiting teacher for many years, a temple worker in Hawaii, and spent many happy hours going to the temple. She loved to travel, was incredibly creative, loved animals, and was very caring for all around her. A visit to Aunt Sylvia always included a special treat. She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews, Mary Jane, Donna, Ruth, Ila, Sylvia, Larry, Viola, Calvin, Darrell, Barbara; numerous great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Marvin Allen; and sister, Emma Jane Rollo Lewis. She touched many lives and will be remembered always. Her legacy will continue on in the lives of her family and those she taught. Services will be Wed. Oct 16, 2002 11 a.m., Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. She was raised in the Teton Valley until the age of 10, when her father passed away and the family moved to Pocatello. She attended schools here and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1947. Dorothy married DeLoy Palmer August 21, 1948, in Pocatello. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple August 31, 1985. Dorothy and DeLoy lived in Brigham City, Preston, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, and Pocatello while DeLoy was employed by Block’s. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and held various callings. Her most cherished calling was as a name extractor in genealogy. She dearly loved the Teton Valley, “family,” painting, gardening, flowers/yard, camping, fishing, the outdoors and especially her children and grandchildren. She managed the Apache Park Trailer Court and enjoyed taking good care of the people that lived there. Our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Norma Myrle Thomas Wardell, passed away peacefully following her courageous battle for the life she loved. She was born on Sept. 24, 1926, in Salt Lake City, the daughter of Albert LeRoy and Clara Ann Mach Thomas. She met and married her eternal sweetheart, Arthur Chapman Wardell, and they were married June 11, 1943, in Salt Lake City. They later solemnized their marriage for time and all eternity in the Logan LDS Temple. She enjoyed everything about life. She held various positions in the LDS Church, attended DUP meetings with her fellow sisters, crocheted baby booties, baked fabulous bread, grew a wonderful garden and raised the most cherished of all her crops — her family. She loved and honored her husband of 59 years, Art; cherished and inspired her children, Kathleen (Ed) Kubicek, Stansbury Park, Utah, Wesley (Debbie) Wardell, Clifton, Norma Wardell, Clifton, Royann Wardell (Jim), Preston, Idaho; and adored her eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three brothers, Dean (Geri) Thomas, Salt Lake City; Marvin (Lorene) Thomas, West Valley City; Wynn Thomas, Salt Lake City; by one sister, Nola (Glenn) Palmer, Wash.; and many wonderful extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, by three brothers, Grant, Blair, and Glen, by a sister, Donna, and by a great-grandson, Clinton Brackin, Jr. Her legacy of service, devotion, and love will be forever cherished by all who knew her.
