First....If you are needing to change your subscription to a new e-mail address, my suggestion is to go to Password Central before your address changes. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Type in the e-mail address you will be loosing... and mark "To which lists am I subscribed? " Don't forget to click on "E-mail me my Info" at the bottom of the page. In a few moment you will receive via e-mail a list of all Rootsweb Mailing Lists you belong to. Save a copy of this e-mail. From this list you can unsubscribe from any or all of the lists. From your saved copy you will know what lists you want to re-subscribe. If you are just trying to unsubscribe....send only the word UNSUBSCRIBE to NAMEOFLIST-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Change NAMEOFLIST to the name of the list you are wanting to unsubscribe from. Remember if you are on the Digest list you need to change the L to a D. If you are still having trouble unsubscribing...then you can contact me KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net and I will try to help. Please let me know what you have tried and what happened. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, My Computer crashed this week and I lost all e-mail that I was saving to answer and over 800 messages that I had just downloaded. If you sent me a personal message within the last week, you need to send it again. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, With so many of you changing e-mail address I figured it was time to send instructions as to how to remove yourself from one address and then subscribe again with the new one. I have over 50 messages asking me to do this for members. If you know in advance that your e-mail address is going to change go to Password Central http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ ask for a list of all the Mailing Lists you are subscribed to. Don't forget to submit your request at the bottom of the page. When you get your e-mail in about 1 minute you need to print it out so you know what lists you belonged to so you can re-subscribe. From the e-mail you can unsubscribe yourself from any or all of the mailing lists. or Just send the word UNSUBSCRIBE to NAMEOFLIST-L-@ROOTSWEB.COM (Change NAMEOFLIST to the name of the list and change L to D if you are on the Digest List) When you are ready to re-subscribe all you need to do is send the word SUBSCRIBE to NAMEOFLIST-L-@ROOTSWEB.COM (Change NAMEOFLIST to the name of the list and change L to D if you want to subscribe to the Digest List.) If you loose your e-mail address and are unable to unsubscribe yourself, then let me know and I will help. You can re-subscribe yourself to the list with the above instructions. I appreciate your help and thank each of you for helping to make our list the success it is.
Dear List Member, Before you send a message to the entire list asking to be unsubscribed from the list, try the following: 1. Send only the word UNSUBSCRIBE to NAMEOFLIST-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM or NAMEOFLIST-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM depending on what list you belong to.....REPLACE the NAMEOFLIST with the name of the list you are trying to be unsubscribed from or 2. Go to Password Central http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ type in your e-mail address, ask for a list of mailing list you are a member of and click on send at the bottom of the page. You will receive in about 1 minute a list of all Rootsweb lists you belong to. From this list you can unsubscribe from any list you wish. 3. Contact me personally IF ALL of the above fails....KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net and ask me to unsubscribe you. Please send me the name of the list. I take care of several. I appreciate your support and thank you for all each of you do to make our list the success it is. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members,. I receive over 25 requests a day from members from all of the lists I take care of asking me to unsubscribe them. Please take a moment and check out Password Central so you will know how to take care of this yourselves if the need arises. Go to http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions. (type in your e-mail address, click on "Mailing lists: To which lists am I subscribed?" and don't forget to click on SEND at the bottom of the screen). You will receive an e-mail within moments that will provide you a list of all Rootsweb lists you belong to. From this e-mail you can unsubscribe yourself from any list you wish. I know there are times you will need me to help like when you loose an e-mail address before you have a chance to unsubscribe. Know that I am here for you and you only need to ask. But for your general unsubscribing please use the above link or just send the word UNSUBSCRIBE in the same manner you SUBSCRIBED to the list. I appreciate your support and thank each of you for helping to make this list the success it is. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, Here it is the first of July and I am late in sending you the Second Quarterly Report. I was in Maryland and Delaware enjoying three of my children their spouses and five of my grandchildren for the 4th of July. Due to the lateness of this report I am not going to send the individual numbers of members for each of the lists I take care of. It is an all day job. If any of you really want to know how many are on your list, just e-mail me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net and ask. Be sure and let me know what list you are asking about. If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fullers Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. Please send this request to KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search and from there you can search by dates. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors" they just delete it. 2. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly Spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 4. The wonderful relationship that develops between list members is also one of a Mailing Lists Problems. I encourage you to respond to the entire list with genealogical responses, you never know who your response will help. In the same thought I would like to ask you to not respond to the entire list with personal responses. Such as, the first message from a member says "Happy Birthday Mary" and then Mary says "Thank you and then about 60 of our members also send "Happy Birthday Mary". This is what I mean by personal messages. Just keep in mind anything is ok to be posted as long as it has to do with the subject of the list. I know there are exceptions to most rules including this one. If you have a doubt ask me. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. 6. Now the hardest thing is when one of our own, a fellow member becomes upset about a posting, something I have done or not done. It is so hard not to jump in and add our two cents. I want you to know how much I appreciate it when you just let these posting go by and delete them. Know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problem. If you ever have a concern that I might have missed a message that needs addressed you are welcome to contact me during the day at Kathleen.burnett@era.com or in the evenings at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in future reports, you only need to send them to me. Dear List Members, The Caribou Co., ID list is a small and quite list. I thought it might be nice for each of you who wish to post your Caribou Co., ID surnames and a little bit about them. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, I know this list will effect only a few of you, but thought I would let you know of it beginning. The Buffalo-Hunters Mailing list was approved yesterday and now is ready to subscribe to. If you have ancestors who were Buffalo Hunters and or are interested in their history, this list will be the place to learn about the Buffalo Hunters of the Old West. I had two great uncles who were hired by the U.S. Government as Buffalo Hunters. Living in 2002 I know what they did caused starvation to a group of people, waste and the near annihilation of a species. Of this I am not proud, but what they did is a part of the history of this country and I am proud of them for doing what they thought was right at that time. To join, send only the word SUBSCRIBE to BUFFALO-HUNTERS-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM I look forward to the Buffalo-Hunters Mailing List becoming another tool for each of us to understand the world out ancestors lived in. Starting today (Monday, 6/10) and extending over several days, RootsWeb is going to be moving the list servers and other machines. No messages sent are expected to be lost, but the lists will be down for a while when it happens; during this time, please don't post "why am I not getting mail"....you will get your mail when the system comes back up, and you don't want half of it to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail. If you have trouble reaching other RW servers this week, it's probably for the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three..... Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Dear List Members, The First Quarterly Report for 2002 is going to be just a little different than the one I usually send to the Mailing Lists I take care of. I tore my Rotator Cuff in November of last year and I find that I cannot spend long hours typing on the computer during the healing process, therefore I am going to send out one message to all of my lists and skip posting the membership numbers this time. I promise to get back to our normal reporting next quarter. Typing over 200 messages is just more than this shoulder and arm can take. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. If you do notice that one of our members has a virus, please do not post their name and e-mail address across the list. Let me know and I will take care of the problem. Most likely the member already knows and is in a major state of stress. Receiving messages of each of us will only cause his or her stress level to rise. Dear List Members: The Holiday Season is over and I am back home again. I want to thank each of you for helping to keep our list running smoothly while I was spending Christmas with three of my children and their families in Delaware and Maryland. I had a wonderful time but came down the flu the day after Christmas which turned in to pneumonia so my week away from you turned into over two weeks. I am doing better, still weak and coughing but on the road to better heath. One other problem while I was away, I had downloaded a huge amount messages on my laptop while in Delaware and my laptop crashed. If you tried to send me a personal message from the 23rd to the 30th of December, I lost it and you will need to re-send. It is time again for your last Quarterly Report for 2001 as to the membership of the IDCARIBO Mailing List and additional items of interest. The IDCARIBO Mailing List has 8 members, 6 of these are subscribed to the Regular List and 2 to the Digest List. If you would like to visit the archived messages you may go to http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl and type in IDCARIBO. From there you can search by keyword. There is a great Rootsweb site you can go to if you want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ I want to thank each of you for continuing to help make this list the success it is. I also want to thank you for your support of me and your willingness to follow the list rules. I have been a List Mom now since 1997 and truly feel I have the best List Members out there who have subscribed to the Mailing Lists I take care of for Rootsweb. Just a reminder so this list is better for each of us the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. If you are concerned that I am not aware of the effected system, contact me personally KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net Please do not post to the entire list the name and e-mail address of the person you feel has the virus. Dear List Members, I will not be around my computer as much as normal for the next 9 days. I am spending these days with 3 of my children and their families which include 5 of my grandchildren. If you need me, please understand if it is a few days before I respond. For those of you who need to unsubscribe during this time, use Password Central. It is the easiest way for you. Go to http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ and follow the instructions and you will be able to unsubscribe yourself from any rootsweb list you are on. I will be checking my e-mail about once a day, usually late in the evening and if there is a real emergency, contact me personally KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net Let me know what the problem is in the Subject line if possible. I will be back to my post on the 30th of December preparing our 4th Quarterly Report for 2001. My best to you and yours for the Holiday Season. Please take care a be safe. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, It is that time of year again when we suddenly will have an influx of new online genealogy enthusiasts with their holiday gift computers that are usually newer and faster than what many of the rest of us have. For a great many of them, it will be their first time online. Some of them will make mistakes and some may (will) unintentionally do things and write things that may be irritating to us and against what we have set up as our list rules. Please take this into consideration in advance and be helpful to them. If things get out of hand, know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problems. Just remember, one of these new members might hold the clue you have been searching for. Let us not discourage them before they have a chance to learn how this works. I would like also to take this time to wish each of you and yours a wonderful and safe Holiday Season. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, I really have my hands full right now trying to keep this virus at bay on our lists. If you are wanting to unsubscribe, please use me as a last hope...meaning try Password Central first. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ By following the instructions on this page you can unsubscribe from an or all Rootsweb lists you are on. Your second way is the same way you subscribed. Send only the word SUBSCRIBE to NAMEOFLIST-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM or NAMEOFLIST-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM (change NAMEOFLIST to the name of your list) If you are unable to get unsubscribed by using both of the above methods, then contact me personally, KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net Please do not send your request to the entire list. Let me know what list you are on and I will help. I am as of this evening 3 days behind in unsubscribing all of the members who have asked to be unsubscribed due to the virus. I have had to put these request on the back burner due to the importance of helping our members who have the virus. I appreciate your help as usual and thank each of you for the support you give me. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Dear List Members, if you need help or want to ask questions regarding the virus that is driving us all crazy, you can subscribe to the Virus Discussion list by sending the only the word subscribe to VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-request@rootsweb.com It is a very good list and very busy right now with many Rootsweb members trying to work their way through this problem we have all found ourselves in. Hope this helps some of you who have questions that need answered. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
This Morning I informed you of a concern we all should have regarding protecting ourselves against BADTRANS worm, computer virus.. I would like to ask you now if you have any additional comments regarding the subject, you send them to me personally. KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Please do not post the names of those you feel you have received infected postings from or their e-mail address. If you received an infected posting from a member of any of the lists I take care of, most likely I did too and I am taking care of it behind the scenes. I thank you for your help with this and appreciate your support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
