Surnames: Alley, Canning Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hd.2ADI/1584 Message Board Post: Deseret Morning News, 12/10/05 Russell Irwin Alley, died December 7, 2005 at the age of 92. He was born on the Alley Ranch, South Eden, Bear Lake, Rich County, Utah. While attending Bear River High he set the state Javelin record. Russ obtained a Civil Engineering degree from Utah State University. He worked for the United States Forest Service, the United States Oversea Mission rebuilding Pearl Harbor during World War II and Water Control Systems in Thailand, the United States Corp of Engineers building military bases in France, the Bureau of Reclamation constructing dams throughout the Western United States, and Schick International consulting on projects in Syria and Indonesia. Russ loved his work as a Civil Engineer, Water Hydrologist and Land Surveyor. Russ married his sweetheart, Carol Beth Canning, in the Hawaiian Temple on September 23, 1944. Both were faithful members of the LDS Church. They loved missionary work and together served three missions; Manila Philippines, Swiss and Salt Lake Temples. He later served in the Salt Lake Temple Square Mission. Russ gained Carol's love for genealogy and following her death in 1998, focused his attention on completing their family lines. United again, this work continues. Russ was a gentle giant among men; soft spoken, humble and honest in all dealings. He loved people of all cultures and never judged anyone. He had great wit and always whistled a tune. He loved his large family and taught them the value of hard work. He played the Saxophone and loved all music, photography and traveling the world. Russell leaves behind his seven children: Karen Sims (Don), Sondra Rosine (Richard), Marilyn Sedgwick (Keith), Russell Alley II (Judy), Pierre Alley (Sarah), Charlie Alley (Pam), John Alley (Cori); 32 grandchildren; brother, Charles Lorraine Alley; and a posterity too large to count and many friends and co-workers around the world. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful South LDS Stake Center, 1250 So. Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary 8090 So. State, Midvale, Sunday 6-8 p.m. or Monday at the stake center from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment, Midvale City Cemetery. Published in the Deseret News on 12/10/2005.
