CHARLES, IDAHO — Arlen Chauncey Wilkes, 76, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2006, in Garden City, of cancer. Arlen was born on Aug. 24, 1929, in St. Charles, to Chauncey and Clara Wilkes. He married his eternal sweetheart, Colleen Stock, Dec. 29, 1952, in the Logan LDS Temple. He graduated from Utah State University with his bachelor of science and master of science degrees and served as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Arlen taught school in Oxnard, Calif., Montpelier and St. Charles, Idaho. He lived most of his life in the Bear Lake valley and was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions, including bishop, high councilor and temple worker. He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, training horses and genealogy work. Arlen is survived by his children, Michael A. (Marilyn) Wilkes of Katy, Texas, David A. (Wendy) Wilkes of Providence, Steven M. (Debbie) Wilkes of Mesa, Ariz., Kathy (Mark) Stringham of Garden City, Bruce K. (Sandy) Wilkes of Kukuihaele, Hawaii, Boyd R. (Rebecca) Wilkes of Caldwell, Idaho, and Ryan C. (Jennifer) Wilkes of Logan; his sister, Wyone (Weldon) Seamons; and brothers, Dennis, Dale (Betty) and Deon (Ineda) Wilkes; 28 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen; his brother, Gaylen; and a sister, Daurice Wilkes; a sister-in-law, Nancy (Dennis) Wilkes; and a granddaughter, Chantel Wilkes. Funeral services will be held at noon, Friday, June 16, at the St. Charles Ward chapel. Friends may visit with family from 10 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral services. The interment will be in the St. Charles Cemetery.
