"Mac" McOmber, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2007. "Mac" was born Dec. 21, 1916 in Marysville (Ashton), Idaho to Charles Ray and Vadis Baum McOmber. The family lived in eastern Idaho most of his school years. He attended schools in St. Anthony and Driggs, graduating from Driggs High School in 1935. His family operated a tourist camp at the base of the Teton Mountains (Idaho side) for a number of years and Charles observed telephone employees, who rented cabins, as they built the telephone line to Jackson, Wyo. He was impressed with their knowledge and the fun they had as they worked and, in 1936, he was hired by Mountain Bell. He worked in the plant department and later, in marketing, retiring in February 1978 with over 42 years of service. During those years he served as manager of the Montpelier and Idaho Falls offices and worked in Boise, Pocatello and Idaho Falls. He spent several years working on coin ! telephone development as well as some time in the state office working on rate increases. In 1938 he married Anna Ruth Conger in Victor, Idaho. To this union were born three daughters and one son. They were later divorced and he married Carolyn (Farber) Barker in Boise in 1964. The majestic Teton Mountains were a part of Mac and he and Carolyn were fortunate to return to the area and live in Jackson, Wyo. for 13 years enjoying family, friends and the beautiful mountains. He also grew to love the desert as he and Carolyn wintered in southern Nevada, California and Arizona for a number of years. He always had a great deal of pride in his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He had a special soft spot for the babies and they seemed to know, being content in his arms. He loved music. Inspirational was his favorite with good country/western a close second. He especially loved the group Bar J Chuckwagon from Jackson and Statler Brothers. He was a member of Presbyterian Chu! rch of Jackson Hole, BPOE #1087 Idaho Falls, Idaho; Caribou Lodge #84, A.F. and A.M, Soda Springs; was a member of SPEBSQSA (barbershop quartet singing) in Pocatello, Telephone Pioneers of America, Family Campers RV club, served for a number of years as a member of the Board of Directors for POTELCO Federal Credit Union in Pocatello and served on the Board of Directors of several homeowner associations. He had his real estate license for a number of years and enjoyed helping people find their special place. He also was a graduate of Foley-Belsaw Institute where he learned locksmithing. He enjoyed this work until macular degeneration made it impossible. He loved "tinkering" and had every tool.
