Don was born September 10, 1920, in St. Charles, Idaho, the first child of John Gordon Windley and Vilda Thornock. When he was 7 years old he was diagnosed with perthes, and was unable to walk without crutches for many years. Being unable to participate in sports he focused on his musical and drama talents. He developed a beautiful tenor voice and used this talent to perform in various musical groups throughout his life. He attended Fielding High School in Paris, Idaho, where he later graduated in 1938. After high school, he worked on the Budge Ranch near Soda Springs. On April 23, 1940, he married Beth Shepherd in the Logan, Utah temple. They lived in Paris, Idaho, and later moved to Montpelier, Idaho, where he worked in a grocery store. They moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 1942, where he worked in a blacksmith shop for the railroad. In 1943, they moved to Portland, Oregon, where he was employed in the shipyards as a welder during World War II. After the war they returned to Pocatello, where he was employed as a truck driver for Zions Wholesale Grocery, and was later promoted to salesman. He was transferred to Logan, Utah, in 1950, where he was promoted to sales supervisor for a group of Red and White Stores. A few years later he was transferred back to Pocatello when Zions Wholesale became Utah Wholesale Grocery, and the stores became IGA. He later worked for Robins Food Brokerage until he retired. Don was active in his church responsibilities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, and served in various callings throughout his adult life. During his years in Pocatello he was very active in musical productions, and was extremely fond of fly fishing and painting in his later years. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald, his sisters, Nila and Eva, and his oldest son, Paul. Don is survived by his loving wife, Beth Shepherd Windley, who resides at Capitol Care Center in Boise, Idaho; his son, Brent (Jill) of Logan, Utah; daughters, LaRae (Fred Wood) of Boise, Idaho, and Jolene (Michael Hampton) of Erie, Colorado; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Rolla Windley of Linden, Utah; and a sister, Marilyn Bateman of Salt Lake City, Utah.
