She married Paul Edward Nelson in the Salt Lake Temple on September 2, 1965. Karen lived in Paris, Idaho, Salt Lake City, Utah, Balboa, Panama Canal Zone, and Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from the University of Utah. Karen was employed as a 3rd grade teacher at St. Mary's Grammar School, Panama. She was the attendance secretary at Washington Elementary School beginning in March 1990, and the head secretary at Lowell Elementary School beginning in August 1994, and at Ensign Elementary School beginning August 2003. Karen is the mother of four children who love her very much: Stephen (Natalee), Richard (Kristl), Jane (Ryan), and Douglas. Karen is also the grandmother of William James Nelson and Abigail Charlotte Nelson. We are appreciative of the care she has received from Salt Lake Regional Med! ical Center and the outpouring of support from friends, family, and the elementary school community. Karen truly touched everyone. Whenever we had a problem or something went wrong, she was the first person we went to. No matter the circumstances, we always felt better after talking to her. Karen made each one of us feel like the most important person in the world. She helped people without expecting anything in return. Karen was absolutely Christ-like in every way. She was solid but unassuming. She was independent but not obstinate. Karen was strong but tender. She was your best friend and your biggest fan. We love her and miss her. We wish she was still with us. However, her legacy will live on in all of us. and that is how we can best repay her for every wonderful thing she has done for us. Mom, you are the very best. The viewing will be held at Garner Funeral Home at 1001 11th Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah, on Friday, March 9th 2007, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral s! ervices will be held at the 21st North Ward LDS.
