Kay was born in a log cabin in Sharon, Idaho, to Jim and Wanda Lyon on July 15, 1933. Kay attended school in Pocatello and then at the age of 16 joined the Air Force. During that period Kay was stationed in Greenland. He married Leah K. Bybee in Pocatello on Aug. 28, 1956, and the marriage has lasted 50 years. He worked most of his life as a diesel mechanic. He was a supervisor and mechanic at Dravo for many years, also working on the Alaskan Pipeline as well. Kay raced stock cars and snow machines as a young man and loved NASCAR all his life. He was a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the NRA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing during his retirement. The family shared many fond memories of camping and hunting trips together. Kay will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, straight forwardness, and love of the outdoors. Kay is survived by his wife and loving companion for 50 years, Leah; two daughters, Deborah R. (Guy) Hirschi and Tammy Kay Roberts (Marc) Rubino; two sons. Rick K. (Shirley) Lyon and Matt (Charlene) Lyon; mother, Wanda Lyon; four sisters, Jerry Sly, Donna Bowman, Laurel Bowen and Delyla Goodson; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
