He was born Aug. 4, 1919. in Montpelier to Otto and Emma Steffenhagen Petereit. He was the eighth of 11 children. Montpelier was his residence for most of his life until he moved to North Las Vegas, Nevada, in November 2000. Hamlet married Mona Painter on June 1, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple. After his discharge from the Army in 1946, they moved to Bancroft, Idaho, where he was employed as a meat cutter for Call Brothers for more than 6 years. They then moved back to Montpelier where he worked at Teuscher’s Market for 20 years and also at Broulims for more than 12 years before retiring. Ham had a great passion for fishing and collecting stamps and coins. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and always had a joke to tell. He loved and appreciated life, family and church. He was a kind and loving husband, father, brother and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mona, his parents, and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son, Wayne (Barbara) of Taylorville, Illinois; daughter, Evelyn (Bill) of North Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters, Ruby Gortcinsky of Montpelier, Ruth Porter of Salt Lake City, Norma Grandy of Bountiful, Utah, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Fourth Ward Chapel. Friends may call at Matthews Mortuary Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning at the church from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.
