McNeil, 84, of Soda Springs, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. He was born November 15, 1922, at LaBelle, Idaho, the son of Robert and Inez Sophia Lundquist McNeil. He was raised and educated at LaBelle, and also lived at Stuart Dam, by Montpelier. He lived the last 40 years in the Soda Springs area. Don married Bernadine Wages January 20, 1950, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Bernadine passed away May 7, 2002. Don served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He retired in 1983 from Utah Power and Light. During his younger years he worked in construction and helped build the Palisades Dam. He was also involved in farming. Don was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Second Ward. He was a member of the Historical Society, a 4-H Horse Club leader and Scout leader. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and DAV; the Odd Fellow Lodge and was currently serving as Noble Grand; and a member of the Operating Engineers Local IBEW. Don enjoyed horses, Western history and his family. He is survived by four sons and two daughters and their spouses, Michael McNeil, Salt Lake City, Utah, Kenneth and Nancy McNeil, Queens Creek, Ariz., Jon McNeil, Chubbuck, Idaho, Bill McNeil, Salt Lake City, Utah, Ellen and Rex Obray, Magna, Utah and Sandra DiViesti, Mt. View, Wyo. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters, Ray and Nelma McNeil, New Mexico, Gordon Mc-Neil, Arizona, Ernest and JoAnn McNeil, Idaho, Shirley and Orval Murphy, Burley, Idaho, and Grace and Wallace Whitaker, Bountiful, Utah. Also surviving is a sister-inlaw, Marlene McNeil. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sherwin McNeil. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 13 at noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center. Friends may call on Friday evening, Jan. 12 at the Sims Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the stake center from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs, with military graveside services. The family suggests donations to the Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
