He was born Feb. 5, 1926, in Paris, Idaho, to Samuel Wilford Lewis and Olive Passey. He attended schools in Paris and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946. He married Dorothy Buhler July 30, 1955, in Soda Springs, Idaho. They had four children, but were later divorced. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad on the CTC signal gang, as a laborer for San Francisco Chemical Company and Stauffer Chemical Company. He also helped family with sheepherding, and enjoyed fishing and camping. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed helping his brother, Marvin, dig fossils in Wyoming. Russell is survived by two sons, Russell Harold (Yvonne) Lewis and John (Lynne) Lewis; two daughters, Vickie (Lowell) Nelson and Debbie Murphy; four sisters, Eva (Benny) Myers, Lola Deane (Clinton) Hill, LaRee Petersen and Nelda MacDonald; one brother, Joe (Beverly) Lewis; 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 29, at 1 p.m. in the Matthews Mortuary Chapel, 702 Clay St. in Montpelier, where friends may visit with family that day from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m., and burial will be in the Paris Cemetery.
