Ken was born on May 28, 1932, in Montpelier, Idaho, to William Ernest Hawkley and Eva Viola Smith. Ken lived in Idaho, Utah, Las Vegas, and Hawaii. He joined the military in December of 1949 and served in the Army for three years, obtaining the Korean Service Medal with six bronze service stars and the United Nations Service Medal. After his first marriage Ken met and married Diane Forrest in California. Ken worked doing various things throughout his life. He worked for a telephone company, owned several businesses, including Gardening by Kenneth Landscaping, Tropical Fish Business, Painting and Maintenance Business, and also owned a restaurant in Hawaii. He was a house painter in California until moving to Pocatello in 1981 to help take care of his mother. Here he started a painting company and later became the manager at the Cowboy Mobile Home Park until he could no longer work. Ken was an artist who loved to paint even after his stroke. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, oil painting, and rock collecting. He loved his animals: dog, Schosha, and cat, Painter. Ken loved to collect rocks and things on his trips; he also was a pretty fair carpenter. He had a prize-winning butterfly collection. He built an addition on his trailer to suit his and his wife’s needs. It wasn’t much, but it was their castle. Ken is survived by his daughter, Teresa Thomas, Las Vegas; sons, John Hawkley, Seattle, Wash., and Bill Hawkley, Las Vegas; step-son, Rick Forrest, Pocatello; brother, Don Hawkley, Boise; sister, Mary Stelle, Pocatello; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Dottie; parents; and ex-wife, Joyce Hawkley. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at the 6th Ward LDS Chapel, 42 Princeton Ave., with Bishop Lee Reddish conducting. A viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Colonial Funeral Home. 2005 S. 4th Avenue, Pocatello, and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
