She married LaMont Pope on November 9, 1929 in Paris, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Fern was a life-long resident of the Bear Lake Valley. She loved her family deeply, and joined in with all the responsibilities of rural home life, including ones which involved her special love of horseback riding. She was an excellent dancer and spoke fondly of attending the weekly dances held around the valley in her youth. The joy of her life was rearing her family of four boys, Richard, Laurel, Ray, and Stephen. She and her husband operated the Town Pump gas station and general store in Fish Haven and Garden City, and later, their family farm. She earned her teaching degree at Utah State University and taught elementary classes throughout the valley, including Fish Haven, Paris, and Montpelier, Idaho. She was highly accomplished in many home crafts, and blessed generations of her family with beautiful quilts, afghans, and hand-sewn rugs. She was an eloquent writer who was often called upon to write poems and humorous stories for church and community activities. After retiring from teaching, she worked for several years for the Utah Travel Council and the Garden City Library. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Garden City Ward, and served faithfully in many callings. Her current calling is assistant librarian. She also served as a stake missionary at the Paris Tabernacle. She is survived by her sister, Marie Weston of Garden City, Utah, her sons, Richard LaMont Pope of Chicago, IL, Mardell Ray Pope (Wanda) of Orem, UT, and Stephen D. Pope (Caroline) of Albuquerque, NM, her daughter-in-law Sharon F. Pope of Orem, Utah, as well as 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
