Surnames: Herzog, Yost, Abel Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hd.2ADI/1710 Message Board Post: The Herald Journal, 08/04/06 Lavon Henry (Bud) Herzog passed away peacefully on Aug. 3, 2006, at his home in Logan.Bud was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Geneva, Idaho, the second son of Henry Charles Herzog and Olga Yost. The family moved to Cache Valley the following year and Bud was raised in Logan. He was educated in the Logan School District and after graduating from Logan High School in 1941, Bud was called to serve in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, during World War II. He married Dawn Abel on July 7, 1948, in the Logan LDS Temple. They had 58 years of happiness together. Bud attended Utah State University and received his bachelor of science degree in 1950 and a master of science degree in industrial psychology in 1962. He was employed at the Utah State Employment Service for 20 Years. He then worked at USU until his retirement in 1984. Bud faithfully served his country and community, and held many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of the most rewarding was the 11 years he served as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple. He loved to fish, play racquet ball, as well as watch the sports at USU and Logan High. He was time-keeper for Logan High basketball for more than 40 years. Bud is survived by his wife, Dawn; and daughters, LeeAnn (Bud) Fackrell, Shauna Herzog; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Valaine Jessop and Beverly Israelsen; and a brother, Kay Herzog. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Aug. 7, in the Logan 10th Ward meetinghouse, 792 N. 500 East. Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Allen Hall Mortuary and from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
