He was born July 6, 1918, in Garfield, Utah, to Holgeer Marius Larsen and Rachel May Suhrke. He was the second of six children. He spent his youth in various cities in Utah and Oregon. He finished his high school education in Copenhagen, Denmark, while his father was serving as Danish Mission President for the LDS Church. The current Danish temple is housed in the chapel built by Holger Larsen. Howard also served a mission in Denmark. He was married to Dawna Stock in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on Oct. 5, 1939, by John A. Widtsoe. He served in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet during World War II. He worked for Utah Power for over 30 years. He started in Salt Lake City and went to American Fork, Utah, and Montpelier, Ashton and St. Anthony, Idaho, where he retired as district manager due to ill health and an old war injury. He was involved in many community activities, serving as mayor of Ashton, and president of the Chamber of Commerce in St. Anthony. He was also a member of the Lions and Rotary Clubs. Howard was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in various callings including being a temple worker in the St. George LDS Temple. During his retirement in Fish Haven he extensively renovated the old Stock pioneer home that was originally built in 1864-1867. He and Dawna also raised iris, raspberries, fruits and vegetables in their many gardens. He and his wife, Dawna, raised four children, and she passed away on April 13, 2005. Since her death he had been residing in Rupert, Idaho, with his daughter, Kathleen Holbrook. Howard is survived by two brothers, Melvin, of Salt Lake City, and John, of American Falls; four children, Howard Joseph (LeAnne) Larsen of Fish Haven, Kathleen (Clifford) Holbrook of Rupert, Idaho, Margery (Jack) Ruch of Bloomington, Illinois, and Bethanne (Gregory) Allen of Verona, Wisconsin; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. in the St. Charles LDS Chapel in St. Charles, Idaho. Friends may visit with family at Matthews Mortuary, 702 Clay St., on Friday evening, Jan. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church in St. Charles from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. The interment will be in the Fish Haven Cemetery.
