He was born to June Grandy and the late David Collings on March 5, 1949, in Montpelier, Idaho. He attended school in Paris, graduating from Fielding High School in 1967. Jim moved to Montana in 1968 and worked for Milwaukee Railroad until March of 1980. In December of that year he began working as a prison guard for Montana State Prison. In February of 2003, Jim moved back to Paris where he has been active in the LDS Church, serving as stake clerk until the time of his passing. Jim suffered his illness with great dignity and patience. He is admired and loved by all those who knew him. Jim is survived by his mother, June Grandy of Paris, four sisters, Kris and Mike Payne of Pocatello, Karen Vega of Montpelier, Diana Williamson of Deer Lodge, Montana, and Leigh Ann Tift of Bainbridge, Washington, two brothers, Jon Grandy of Idaho Falls and Bill Grandy of Salt Lake City, his aunt, Gwen and Owen Daw, and several nieces and nephews. His last months were especially blessed by his nephew, Joey Vega. He was preceded in death by his father, David Collings, and stepmother, Genevieve, his stepfather, Drue Grandy, and his aunt, Janet Daines.
