Rich, 91, passed away on Oct. 4, 2005, due to advanced age, at the home of his daughter. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005 at the Warm Springs LDS Chapel. Friends may call to visit with the family from 3 until 3:45 p.m. at the church on Saturday prior to the services. Interment will follow at the Pioneer Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel. He was born on June 7, 1914 in St. Charles, Idaho, the second child of Ray and Mattie Rich. He was raised on a farm near Bear Lake and in his youth he learned the value of hard work. Vernon found great joy in the praise of his parents for the help he provided on their farm. He lived close to family members, which resulted in a lifelong bond with his Rich cousins. He graduated in 1932 from Fielding High School in Paris, Idaho, where he served as senior class president, and met his lifelong love and eternal companion, Flora Grimmett. They were sealed in marriage for time and all eternity on Aug. 25, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from Utah State Agricultural College with a bachelor's degree in forestry. He spent 40 years working for the Idaho Fish and Game Department in various positions, including federal aid coordinator. Vernon served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the shore patrol and was a patriotic American who loved his country. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and left a strong legacy of faith, service, and integrity. Vernon served as a member of the bishopric in the Boise First Ward, as a scoutmaster, and in other leadership positions. He and Flora together served a full-time mission in Nauvoo, Ill. In his retirement years he found great joy in frequent temple service. He was a kind and thoughtful neighbor. He was the first one in the neighborhood to shovel his neighbors´ walks after a snowstorm, and to provide fresh produce from his garden. He found great pleasure in maintaining a beautiful yard and home, which he shared freely with family and friends. Many special occasions and memories were celebrated there. He was a quiet and introspective man with a deep testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was proud of his pioneer heritage and passed this legacy on to his posterity. Vernon and Flora were blessed with an eternal family of five children, Judy (Ken) Kinzel of Meridian, Doug (Madge) Rich of Boise, Ann (Mert) Alldredge of Bountiful, Utah, Debbie (Lowell) Fugal of Meridian, and Randy (Margene) Rich of Vacaville, Calif.. He is also survived by his brother Vearl (Ella) Rich of Middleton, Utah, and his sister Meredith (Bruce) Wilhelmsen of Mapleton, Utah. At the time of his passing he had 27 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Flora, his brothers Lothair and Asael Rich, and his grandson Ryan Fugal.
