He was born January 13, 1917 in Dingle, Idaho to James Alexander and Rosina Nate Sparks. He was married June 20, 1940 to Verna Bacon in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He lost both parents within six weeks at the age of five. He was reared by his older sister Sybil and her husband Fenton Allred in Paris, Idaho. He graduated from Fielding High School. He was always very grateful for their kindness. After high school, he attended Ricks College for a year where he played basketball. He served in the Navy during World War II, where he was stationed in San Diego. He owned and operated a jewelry store in Montpelier, Idaho for many years. After selling the store, he took a job as a computer programmer at Hill Air Force Base, eventually becoming supervisor of his department. Lyman and Verna lived in Kaysville for many years before moving to Wellsville, Utah. After retiring, they moved to St George, Utah. Besides his family, he had two passions: horses and later in life genealogy. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart; four sons, Wynn (Virginia) Sparks of California, Randy (Ann) Sparks of Bountiful, Utah, Lund (Cyd) Sparks of St George, Utah, and Terrell (Julie) Sparks of Sandy, Utah; Grandchildren Nicolle Houtz, Jon Sparks, Sean Sparks, Chris Sparks, Ashley Lake, Kathryn Mangum, Anjuli Ketcher, Logan Ketcher, Cody Ketcher Tara Sparks, David Sparks, Mandah Strickling, John Sparks, Joseph Sparks, Matthew Sparks, James Sparks, Ryan Sparks, Braden Sparks, Michael Sparks, and Granger Williams; and 20 Great Grandchildren. Private family funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, at 1:00 p.m. at Heideman Mortuary (170 S Mall Drive). Interment will be in the St George City Cemetery under the direction of Heideman Mortuary. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
