    2. Drmbclay, How kind it was of you to respond to my e-mail. I was pleased to read that there were indeed more decendents of the Hoffs and Bacons out there. Thank you for your insights and any other data you may be able to relate to me. I look forward to further communication! sincerely, Cindy Green Sproul -----Original Message----- From: drmbclay@msn.com To: idbearla@rootsweb.com Sent: Tue, 10 Apr 2007 7:26 AM Subject: Re: [IDBEARLA] Hoff-Bacon Cynthia, I am a dispalaced "Bearlaker" meaaning a member of Southeastern Idaho county of Bear Lake and a cousin of almost every Hoff or Bacon that ever passed through or stopped in or around Bear Lake. If I am not, my wife is! They are so distant that I have given little or no attention to them; however I can say this, they were all, primarially, Mormons mostly non straying. The Hoff family settled in the Georgetown area and the Bacons in Montpelier. My Grandfather, Robert Abner Birch, and my mother, Lillas, were musicians and played in many a dance or Barn Raising, so the aquantance of musical inclined folk was inevitable. My wife's father, Joseph Hepworth Bee, was also a violin player and was enjoyed by all about him in the Georgetown area. So the association was there and good. Montpelier has a museum with a goodly bit of local history and it is continually growing. The town is dead set on the Oregon Trail and they are very proud of that I admit this does not open doors for you but does give you another place to look. I will dig into my records and see what is there. ----- Original Message ----- From: cgeesproul@aol.com<mailto:cgeesproul@aol.com> To: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com<mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> ; idbearla@rootsweb.com<mailto:idbearla@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 09, 2007 8:27 PM Subject: [IDBEARLA] Hoff-Bacon Dear List, My great-grandfather was: Charles A. Hoff B- 19 Oct 1851- Philadelphia, Pa D- 23 Feb 1934- Riverside, Ca Married 13 Oct 1873- Salt lake City, Edowment house My Great-grandmother was: Celestia Adeline Bacon B-10 Oct 1854 Salt Lake City, Ut D- 10 Jun 1921 Pocatello,Bannock, Id My grandmother was their eighth child in a line-up of eleven. Her name was Ruby Louise Hoff. Here are my questions. I can't find any pioneer record of my g-grandfather's crossing in any of the LDS pioneer record sites. The only two Hoffs I found in the pioneer manifests were not identifiable as my family. I wonder if Charles came with the Railroad and stayed to join the church and to marry Celestia? I believe this family ran a way station that provided food and possibly lodging for travelers. The way-station would have been in the Montpelier/Bear Lake Area. Do any of you have any ideas about how to research the local history of such a businesses in the 1880's? They were a musical family. My grandmother played the piano. My Grandparents settled in San Diego County,California in the early thirties. I have a bread plate that was used in the road house/way station and I wonder if there are any local historical societies that would help preserve it? Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any theories or hints or even real facts would be greatly appreciated. regards, Cynthia Green Sproul ________________________________________________________________________ AOL now offers free email to everyone.
