She was born Jan. 15, 1932, in LaJunta, Colorado, to Charles and Josephine Minor Rarden. She graduated from LaJunta High School in 1950, and attended the University in Greeley, Colo., where she met her husband, Benjamin H. Fugate. They married on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1953. They made their home in Evans, Colo., until 1962 when the family moved to Montpelier, Idaho. After several years as a housewife and mother, she went back to school at Idaho State University, where she received her special education certification, and taught school in Montpelier for a time. After leaving the school district, she continued to teach from her home in Montpelier. Charlene was a woman of many talents. After teaching school, she and a partner opened a Knitting and Cross Stitch store, where she offered classes in both. She also served in the Presbyterian Church. Charlene is survived by her two sons, Mark (Sandy) Fugate of Soda Springs, Idaho, Clint (Christine) Fugate of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter, Shawna (Richard) Wilke of Boise, Idaho; her mother, Josephine Rarden of Montpelier; her brother, Joseph Rarden of Vernalis, California; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Rarden, and her husband of 50 years, Benjamin H. Fugate. Cremation has been completed and a memorial service will be held for friends and family at the Matthews Mortuary Chapel in Montpelier at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. Interment of her urn will take place in Montpelier Cemetery following the service.
