She was born June 26, 1916, the second daughter of Samuel P. Packer and Martha Sutherland in Preston, Idaho. Her mother passed away during the flu epidemic of 1918 leaving baby Ann with no recollection of her mother and a longing to be with her again. Their heavenly reunion gives her family much solace during this time of grief. Ann was raised by her loving father and stepmother, Allie Hanson, in Preston. She was especially close to her older sister, Helen and loved her brothers, Samuel Lyle, Allen, and Richard. She attended schools in Preston graduating in 1934. She lived with her grandmothers while attending Utah State University and graduated in 1938 with an English degree, minoring in business. She taught school in Mink Creek and Grace, Idaho. Ann married Parley Lloyd June 5, 1939 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated 66 years of marriage. He was by her side, as always, when she left this life. Ann was blessed with two loving children, Karen and Spence. They raised their family on a dairy/dry farm in Grace, Idaho. Ann and Parley retired to Logan in 1972, then moved to Provo and finally Salt Lake City. Never more than a few blocks from an LDS Temple, they served often and attended weekly. They were spiritual anchors for their family and friends and found ways to serve in every stage of life. Although her eyesight began to fail 30 years ago, she never complained nor stopped making weekly loaves of heavenly bread. Ann was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and serving in various callings including Stake Relief Society President in Grace, Stake YWMIA President in Montpelier, Idaho, and a temple worker in Logan. She unwaveringly supported her husband in his callings. She was honored! to be a member of Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Ann laughed easily and often through good and hard times and was the epitome of a kind soul. She exemplified to her posterity the importance of faith, honesty and a scoop of ice cream after dinner. She is survived by her husband Parley, daughter Karen (Gary), and son Spence (Sandy), all of Sandy, Utah. She will be greatly missed by her 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grand-children. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, a great-grand-son, as well as all her siblings. Services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Salt Lake City, where friends may call Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Wellsville, Utah. Published in the Deseret News on 7/14/2005.
