The Smit's were my next door neighbors on Whidbey Island. Sarah and I were chums during my 5 years there. Mid to late 50's. I remember Mr. Smit as the quiet fisherman and gardner next door and Kathleen as the best bridge player and baker around. My Dad used to partner with her for tournies. It was simple island life. I am still close to Molly and hope to send any and all info I glean to her. So nice to see a family that has taken interest in finding their way home. Computers have certainly opened up the world. I have no pictures of Lynn and Kathleen. If you wouldn't mind sending one by email..I would be forever grateful. Thank you Kathleen Kelly

You have to do it all online any more; you can't go into the records office. You may have to prove your relationship. Idaho has a state historical society, located in Boise, that has excellent records. You may be able to write to them and ask for any information they have. They keep old newspapers and much of it is being digitized now. They have helped many people that I know for just this type of information. Have you tried Google for any information, using the Halbasch name? If you know the mortuary that handled the funeral, you may be able to find records they have. If there was an accident, they may even have that information . We usually send them a few dollars to help pay for any copying expenses. The sexton at the cemetery may also be of some help. Good hunting and I will keep looking too.

Eborn, 50, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Paris, Idaho. He was born Jan. 8, 1956, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Weldon and Fern Larsen Eborn. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Paul married his sweetheart, Carol Mattson, Sept. 20, 1974, in Paris, Idaho. After high school he worked in the mining industry in Soda Springs. He served as the ditch master for the relief canal for many years and was employed by P.P.S. Company. Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. His spunky personality and fun sense of humor touched the lives of all he came in contact with. He was a hard worker and was dedicated to the things in life he loved, raising steers, his yearly garden and yard are all things in which he took great pride. During the winter months he enjoyed snowmobiling and plowing snow for the neighbors. He looked forward to the snow melting so he could plant his garden and enjoy the beautiful seasons to come. He loved the outdoors and looked forward to yearly camping trips with his family and friends. He loved Dutch oven cooking, 4-wheeling and the smell of nature all around him. He was a master of woodworking and built many priceless treasures for his family and close friends. He enjoyed fishing Bloomington streams and at the Bear Lake. His passion in the fall was up in Green Basin where he and ‘the boys’ would gather in ‘the tent’. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Carol of Paris, his son Josh (Lisa) of Paris, two daughters, Tausha (Jay) Passey of Paris, Jesse (Jube) Kunz of St. Anthony, Idaho; his father, Weldon, and step-mother, Phyllis, of Paris; one brother, Leon (MaryAnn) of Paris; one sister, Lois (Lance) Brown of Sandy, Utah; three grandchildren, Haylee and Jace Eborn and Caitlin Passey, and several nieces, nephews and several friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Fern, and two brothers, Kim and Lynn, and his best friend, Cinnimon (Cinni). Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 1, at 11 a.m. in the Paris Stake Center. Friends may visit with family at Matthews Mortuary on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church in Paris on Wednesday morning from 9 until 10:45 a.m. The interment will be in the Paris City Cemetery.
