Smith, b: abt 1888 in PA. His father, John Smith, born in PA, operated an iron ore mine. When my grandfather, Daniel, was about two years old John left the family and went west (some say to Idaho) and became partners in a silver mine. Some say the family never heard from him again, others say he attended the funeral of his son John in PA, who died from a fall from a bridge.
