Wallace governor of the new territory... on September 22, 1863 formaly organizes the new territorial gorvernment... Soon Caleb Lyon was in the governors chair in 1864, and was last seen fleeing to Portland from where the plot to move the state capitol from Lewiston to Boise was hatched.....next was Samuel Bard agreed to take the job but decided to stay in Atlanta, Georgia....next Gilman Marston of New Hampshire a lawyer, but upon receiving his degree from Dartmout was not willing to do the job for the salary of $2500 per year.....Next Alexander H. Connor a prominet Indiana attorny.... but he declined the appointment.... Next Ebenezer Dumont, but he died before his commission could be carried out.....next Thomas M. Bowen a former brigadier general who was now a judge in Arkansas.... took the job but after spending a few days in the new territory they headed back, as they couldn't stand the country... The information that I have on a Bennett who was Teritorrial Govenor of Idaho is.... In 1870-71 General Ullysses S. Grant was having difficulty in finding somewho would accept the governorship of far-off Idaho Territory. After several trys he finally came up with Thomas W. Bennett who had been mayor of Richmond, Indiana. Bennett who served as Idaho's Territorial Governor from 1871 to 1875 has been described as "the most jovial, reckless gentleman who ever sat in a gubernatorial chair". In 1874, Bennett ran for Congress, and although he did not get the most votes, as chairman of the Board of Canvassers he declared himself elected. He served as a Delegate to Congress from 1875 to 1877 when he was thrown out and replaced by Stephen S. Fenn of Mount Idaho... D.P. Thompson a westerner from Portland replaced Bennett. Thompson only spent 19 days in Idaho Territory while governor. He resigned and I do not know who took the governorship until 1885 when Edward A. Stevenson served until 1889 and then George L. Shoup 1889-1890.... and then was elected governor if the new state of Idaho..... Will see if I can fill in the gap from Thompson to Stevenson... ca 1876 to 1885... UNSUBSCRIBE I am Unsubscribing from all mailing lists, for the present time. We have had a terrible Family EMERGENCY this week-end. Plus the STRESS of my pending Surgery to try and save my right leg has been scheduled for 22 JUNE 2001. I have to donate enough Units of blood, to get me through the Surgery before they will operate. If the inner compressed infection and the complete knee replacement can not be done, then the leg will be amputated. My grandmother Sedalia RUCKER Dexter had her leg amputated when a teen ager, my Uncle, when in the prime of life, lost his. They both lived GOOD lives well into their years. Our step-grandson had his amputation before 3 years of age, played football, basketball, baseball and swimming. So you can see , we are a determined bunch. You don't think that the RUCKER Blood in these veins has anything to do with that, DO YOU.!! I will still be working on my Genealogy and Family Research, just will not have time to answer so many e-mails that come with belonging to the mailing lists. If we are working on a project, please continue with me on it. I just have to cut down a little, from the present 10 to 16/18 hours per day to 6 to 8 hours per day at this time. When not at home, I will always have my notebook computer with me. Please continue to keep in touch... For those that I was to send my address, that are sending Documents and Records, I will include my Snail Mail Address following this E-Mail. The Researchers that are working now, on the Rucker Projects, I will continue Full Time with you on our work. Everything must be sent to my Private E-Mail at: leighton@pacifier.com I will still be checking my E-Mail. Even while I am in the hospital, if and when I am able to. So, Please keep in touch. I know it will help to keep my mind off all my troubles and my aches and pains for the next several months. Thanks for your understanding in this most difficult time. We have reason to believe that one or more of our Rogers moved to Idaho, possibly around Sun Valley, ID. Basil is a common first name in our line of Rogers.
