In the 1820 census of Fayette County, Jefferson Township, Ohio, the family name is mispelled as "Rian." In that census, listed right together is Joseph, Sr. Benjaman, Meshack, Joseph, Jr. and a couple of the other brothers. Also the tax records for Fayette County list Joseph, Benjaman, Elizabeth, Joseph, Jr., Meshack, William, John. Elizabeth began being listed in the tax records after Joseph, Sr. died. Information on Joseph, Sr.'s partisipation in the Revolutionary War came from books about Washington County, Pennsylvania. Joseph, Sr. is listed as a member of a frontier unit.
