His father, John Dick, who is now deceased, was a native of Botetcourt County, Virginia, and of German descent, his father, John Dick, being a native of that country. George W. By his untiring industry and strict fru! gality he has acquired a fine farm, being now the owner of 160 acres. Book 1 of Wayne County's "Early Marriages," lists in entry No. 412 that Daniel Calar and Lucinda Battral applied for a marriage license on December 24, 1864. Lucinda Battrell McGarvy (from Jackson Co., WV, or more properly, Virginia, at the time she would have been born to George and Nancy McGarvy -- was listed in 1960 Iowa census records as being 33 years old. I believe she and Columbus Battrell married in Virginia and the couple emigrated with her parents to Iowa. The Battrell's children were: George (1854?), James (1856?), and John, (1861?) Columbus Battrell enlisted in Iowa's 23rd Infantry in July 1862 and was killed in a skirmish at Port Gibson, Mississippi on May 1, 1863. I don't know what happened to James Battrell, as the inventory Lucinda provided to the court in 1864 states that she has only two children -- George and John W. According to records ! found in Wayne Co., by 1876, John is under the guardianship of A. G. Meade and Lucinda is deceased. If anyone has further information about Lucinda and the Battrell's, please contact me either at the email listed or at 4739 - 76th Street, Urbandale, IA 50322.

Surnames: Sears, Belvel Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Cl.2ADI/894 Message Board Post: One of the saddest deaths to occur in this community in many months was that of Mrs. Gladys Sears, wife of Perry D. Sears, at the home of the husband's parents,' Mr. and Mrs. Alex Sears, five miles north of Lineville, on last Friday of pneumonia, following a short illness. She was just at the beginning of life, being barely 20 years of age, and all the bright promises of the future before her. And the three little babies, loving husband, and parents, have now only the consolation that all "born unto that undying life, leave us to come again." Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church, on last Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. B. Moore, the pastor, assisted by Rev. O. S. Tallent, of the M. E. Church, South, interment following at Evergreen cemetery. The services were attended by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. The bereaved husband, parents, brothers, sister, all have the sincere sympathy of the community in their sad bereavement. Gladys Belvel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lowe Belvel, and beloved wife of Perry D. Sears, was born Sept 22, 1901 and departed this life Jan. 13, 1922, age 20 years, 3 months, 21 days. Gladys' early life was spent in their farm home on the Mount Olive community northwest of Lineville, Iowa. Her home at the time of her death was in the same community. Since childhood she has been a member of the Mount Olive M. E. Church, South. Aug. 23rd, 1918, she was united in marriage to Perry D. Sears of the Mount Olive community. To this union three children were born, Gwyndene, age three years, Carrol Kenneth, age two years, and an infant daughter age fourteen days. In addition to her parents of this place, four brothers, all of Lineville, mourn the loss of an affectionate daughter and sister, Ervine, Ivan, Emery and Claude Belvel, One sister, Mrs. Alpha Belvel Petty, of Lineville is doubly grieved in the memory of her own recent bereavement. The death of Gladys is the first break in the family circle of her parents. In thirty-one years of married life this home has been spared as an unbroken circle. The life so prematurely ended has been one of singular sweetness and faithfulness. As daughter, wife and mother she has held the love of parents, husband and babies. Especially was this spirit of patient courage shown in her bereaved sister, Alpha, in those anxious days following her great bereavement. The fine dependence of each upon the other in her tme of need will be a rich memory to the surviving sister. The sympathy of the community goes out to the husband. His patience and devotion during the short years of their married life and the last sickness are a credit to his standing in the community. To all these loved ones and to the many friends of the Lineville....(unreadable) The Lineville Tribune

When five years of age he came, with his parents to Iowa, and, with the exception of one year when he lived in Missouri, he has spent his entire life in this community. On May 14, 1899 he was married to Stella M. Martin and to this union six children three sons and three daughters-were born. Mrs. Beulah Warren, Webster City Iowa, Melvin Sears, Lineville, Leon Sears, Allerton, Mrs. Mabel McDougal, Clio, Neal Sears, Lineville and Mrs. Rosa Overton, Rippey Iowa These with their mother were privileged to be with him at the last. Others who mourn their loss are the nineteen grandchildren and his mother, Mrs. John Sears of Wakita, Okla, who is 98 yers of age and has been bed-ridden for 10 years. Four sisters Mrs. Laura Duncan, California, Mrs. Tessie Humphrey, Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Stella Davis, and Mrs. Lovell of Wakita, Okla. two brothers, Ross and Neal, Leavenworth, Washington. Mr. Sears was converted at Mt. Olive Church when a young man and all his life expressed a desire to so live as to meet his Master in a better world and often admonished his children to live honest, upright lives and to attend church. This was his last request to them. Though he has been in bad health for a long time, his last illness was of short duration. Everything was done for him that loving hands could do, but to no avail. He will be greatly missed by his family, to whom he was ever kind and loving, and also by a host of friends and neighbors who will long remember his many kind, neighborly acts. "Like a ship that has left its mooring; And sails bravely out to sea, So someone dear has sailed away In calm serenity. But there is a promise of a greater joy, Than earth can have in store For God has planned a richer life, Beyond the unseen shore. The Lineville Tribune

Robert, Torcie Davis in Des Moines, Iowa would be your man. He is descended from the Jones and Davis's and is one of two people who has keys to the church. I am sure he must have access to the records there. He will be at a big reunion they are having September 15th at the church. Torcie does not have email, but should be listed in the Des Moines directory. If you have any information on the Jones/Davis/Morlan families from the area, would love to correspond with you more.
