Vargus DATE: 1/28/2007 at 14:42:42 Surnames: HAGANS,WILLIAMS,EDWARDS,NORDYKE,HYDE Source: Washington Journal, 1959 LONG TIME BRIGHTON RESIDENT DIES FRIDAY Silbert Henry Hagans, 74, died in Washington County Hosptial Friday (June 5, 1959) at 8:15 following a lingering illness of the past several months. He had been seriously ill for four weeks. Funeral services will be held at the Gould Funeral Home in Brighton at 2:30 PM Monday with Rev. Roger Williams in charge. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Hagans was born September 16, 1884 at Canton, Ill. He moved to Brighton community when he was 8 years old and had lived there ever since. He was married to Nellie Edwards Dec. 19, 1906. For the past several years he had been employed by the town of Brighton, first as Marshall, then as street commissioner and most recently held the position of Supt. of the town water system. He was a member of the Brighton Christian Church and the K.P. Lodge. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Glen of West Liberty, Walter of Brighton; two sisters, Mrs. William Nordyke and Mrs. Maude Hyde, both of Fairfield; two brothers, James of Ottoumwa and Ed of Fairfield; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and two brothers.
