When looking for death info for someone who died in the year prior to the 1880 census it is always a good idea to check out the 1880 Mortality Index. I already checked my local Family History Library and they do not have this film. But the number for the 1880 Mortality Index that includes Washington County, Iowa is 1550795. You may want to order it and have a look. It will give the person's name, death date and many times includes the cause of death. It should contain the names and info of persons who died form June 1870 thru May 1880. Cheryl
