On Jan 5, 1881, he was united in marriage to Josephine Nelson, of Delta, IA, who survives him. To this union were born three children who survive him. They are; Elbert N., Bessie M., the wife of Frank Parcell, and Clarence L.. The two boys are at home to comfort their mother in her sad bereavement, and the daughter lives near. He also leaves an aged father, t wo brothers and five sisters to mourn his untimely death.
