I am not related to Mr. Smith and have no further information. Donald L. "Don" Smith, 75, 2006 Iowa Highway 92, Washington, died Saturday, Oct 27, 2001, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born May 19, 1926 in Washington, the son of Marion W. and Florence Marie Baker Smith. On Aug 11, 1946, in San Francisco, Calif., he married Virginia Luers. He was a life resident of Washington County. He graduated from West Chester High School in 1944 and was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. He farmed the family century farm and was a carpenter, electrician and craftsman. He and his wife owned and operated D & V Fabrics in Washington. He was a Singer sewing machine salesman and repaired all makes of sewing machines. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, fishing and his family. Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Washington; three daughters, Vicki Brinning and husband Linden of Columbus Junction, Denise Gage and husband Gary of Wapello, and daughter Diane Adams and husband Don of Washington; a son, Vince Smith and Pat Holmes, Washington; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ireta Janecek, Washington, Alberta Miller and husband Merle, Washington and Fran Darbyshire and husband, Allen, Washington; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were at 10 am Wednesday, Oct 31, at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington with the Rev. Ron McMenamin officiating. Burial followed at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, rural Washington County, with military honors. Family visitation was Tuesday evening at the Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Arrangements were made by the Jones-Eden Funeral Home.
