Charles "Chick" SWIFT, 95, of Ainsworth, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Washington Care Center, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10a.m. Saturday, July 14, St. James Catholic Church in Washington, with the Rev. Dennis MARTIN and the Rev. Richard BOYD officiating. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Mr. SWIFT was born May 23, 1906 in Ainsworth, to Alvah and Elizabeth (GUGERTY) SWIFT. He married Elsie RICHARDS in Ainsworth and later married Goldie LEON, Dec. 2, 1974, in Cedar Rapids. Mr SWIFT attended St. James Catholic School and farmed in the Ainsworth area all his life. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. He helped in the construction of St. James' new church. Mr. SWIFT enjoyed being outdoors and farming. Mr. SWIFT is survived by his wife Goldie SWIFT of Ainsworth; two daughters, Patricia WADE of Milwaukee, Ore., and Lani STEELE and husband Robert of Lineville, Ala.; one son Leland SWIFT and wife Barbara of San Diego, Calif.; nine grandcildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 10 brothers and sisters; and his first wife, Elsie.
