I am not related to Mr. Christner and have no further information. Benjamin R. Christner, 75, of Eldon, died March 19, 2001, at the Washington Care Center. The graveside service was 10:30 am Thursday, March 22 at the Eldon Cemetery with the Rev. James Cecil officiating. Military rites were conducted by the Walter B. Schafer VFW Post 775 and the O.B. Nelson American Legion Post #3 of Ottumwa. Open visitaiton was held from 3 to 9 pm Wednesday, March 21 at the Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon. Mr. Christner was born in Henry County on Nov 12, 1925, the son of Luther and Margaret Sammons Christner. He married Clarice Abrisa in 1947 and later married Ella Mae Pool in 1953. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He worked most of his life as a self-employed carpenter. Survivors include three sons, Mark Christner of Mabank, Texas, Bobby Christner of Eldon and Michael Christner of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Rose Lamb of Florissant, Mo., Chris Lamb of Mesa, Ariz., and Brenda Nachazel of Mason City; a brother, Edward Christner of Washington; three sisters, Evelyn Talbott of Waterloo, Marie Delzell of Morning Sun; and Mae Meth of Mt. Pleasant; two step-daughters, 16 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Priscilla; one brother, Harold and one sister Ludica Cox and long time companion, Betty Jo Smith.
