The census info you listed would be Lewis and Elizabeth's 1st son and his family living with them. I'm just not able to find out anything more about Elizabeth (e.g. when or where she died) nor anymore about this John's family. I did find John married again to a Mary E. ? sometime before 1901. I also show this John died in Kansas on 4-27-1927 and show John and Mary had 1 son named Arthur born in Missouri. The only daughter of John and Katherine I found any information on was Mary Nicola who married an "O. Webb" and had 1 daughter by the name of Bertha. Also found William ("Bill") Nicola married an Ida F. ? and they had 5 children but nothing on the other children of John and Katherine. I am from the Anthony Nicola line and do have quite a bit of information on them and also quite a bit on Henry Nicola's line but nothing on the other 2 children of Alexander and Elizabeth. Thanks for the census info! Appreciate all your work!!

They came to Iowa approx. the same time as my Snider family from the same place. (ca. 1857) I am not aware of them ever living in Pa. but the boundary line between Preston Co. and southwestern Pa. changed and my Sniders indicate a Pa. birthplace in our earliest records (1786). A cousin of mine is married to Albert Nicola who has extensive history on both families but he has had a stroke and may not remember all of it. The only ones I knew back then was Earl, Charlie, and Lester that my parents spoke of often. I know none of the family in LIme Creek twp. nor do I know the early wives. The records I sent are all from the Marion Twp., Washington Co. records except for the wpa and cemetery records that I copied all of. Census, marriage and cemetery records.. I won't attempt to analyze beyond that. It is my understanding they knew each other in W. Va. Norma Jennings

I'm still trying to find my line of NICOLA's from Lewis Alexander NICOLA (poss "Ludovicus Alexander [Alex/Ludwig] Nicolas/Nickola") and his wife which we thought was "Philamina" but MAY be "Maria Anna [Elizabeth] Niederer". This family included: John (b. about 1844 in Alsace-Lorraine), Henry (b. Sept 1854 in Iowa), and Anthony (b. 12-24-1859 in Iowa). There may be 2 other children in this particular family but we have not been able to confirm those.

There are several duplicate names in Washington County (John, Charles, etc.). One family lived in Lime Creek Twp and the other in Marion Twp. I have noticed some GedComs on line have the wrong dates Now, they may be related but there are occasionally confused. I will check with Lester's daughter who his father is.The Earl I knew about was born 19 Dec. 1887, the son of Charles and Permelia Reed Nicola and may be his father. Lester was born in 1909. Earl's brother Arthur married my mother's cousin Mabel Virginia Snider. Arthur died when he was kicked by a horse and his wife remarried to a Waldron.. John Nicola married Rachel Shahan according to the marriage records so that does indicate that Rachel Mathews was married before. John's second wife Nancy also died before 1880 and after 1877. You will find John and his children living in his father Alexander Nicola's household in the 1870 census. Children: Charles b. 1869, (the one born in 1866 lived in Lime Creek twp.) Elizabeth b. 1871, Mary b. 1872, Emmaline b. 1875 and William b. 1877 According to those same census records John and his parents were born in Germany. I am only listing data that I can document as I need to doublecheck on my memory as I was quite young when I went to the same church as the Nicolas. Norma Jennings Message Board Administrator
